Predicting the Depth Chart (OL Edition)

Since the wifi continues to not be fast enough for film watching as I await my redeye home from San Francisco, I have been writing on scrap paper my thoughts on the offensive line depth chart on day one of fall camp. Here is what I am thinking. I welcome questions in the comment box that I will respond to either on my flight or tomorrow after a long nap.

Left Tackle 1) Yosh Nijman 2) TJ Jackson 3) Lecitus Smith
Left Guard 1) Wyatt Teller 2) Austin Cannon 3) Aiden Brown
Center 1) Eric Gallo 2) Zach Hoyt 3) Patrick Kerns
Right Guard 1) Brandon Pfaff/Parker Osterloh 2) Kyle Chung 3) Demetri Moore
Right Tackle 1) Tyrel Smith 2) D'Andre Plantin 3) TJ Hopple

Predictions: Zach Hoyt will be named as a contender with an open competition at center. I really hope Gallo had an opportunity to get healthy this summer, as he showed he can be a solid ACC center as a sophomore before a rough season last year. I think you will hear about Osterloh, if healthy, getting work at both guard spots. Pffaf will have a battle there, and Osterloh has made a habit of getting first team repetitions over Teller in fall camp the last two seasons. Tyrell Smith looked good in what I saw in spring ball. My dark horse player is TJ Jackson. I loved his film in pass pro work during last fall camp. He was smooth in his drops and has great size. I had some concerns about his run blocking, and while he was far from dominant, he got engaged on blocks and stayed attached. If he doesn't play this season, I believe he is close to a lock being the starting left tackle as a redshirt sophomore. If the light comes on, he could challenge on the right side as a means to get some experience.

I am hoping we see the first round talent Wyatt Teller this season. While he was more consistent last year, I thought his footwork took a step backwards and he still busted assignments too frequently (see the McMillian TD run versus Duke where Teller chased a blitzing linebacker away from the play, leaving McMillian with an unblocked linebacker. Fortunately, McMillian broke his ankles.)

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"
