Health of Josh Jackson

As the title states any info on the status of JJ would be appreciated. Didn't hear anything official wouldn't expect an update till Monday but was wondering if anyone near the team might have an idea on his injury?

I have not heard anything. It didn't look good.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Just watching the replay I would be surprised if his ankle isn't broken, fractured, or at a minimum severely sprained. Hopefully, he has a full and speedy recovery.

I think he is going to be out for a while.

I guess we get to see how good Willis is and the folks that wanted him to play should be interested to see how he does.

Damnit!! Where's Leal???

Just glad all of TKP acted like they did when he got hurt. The comments on social media were awful about him being injured.

If I live to be 1,000 years old I will never understand people. I guess that's why I'm in IT :)

People are awful. What's so hard to understand?

I'll never understand why people can be shitbags

Whenever a monarch went down due to cramps or injury, I didn't applaud. I just hoped they were okay and that we could execute on the next down.

Let's Go

Which is why I just tweeted him with my own support and wishes for a speedy recovery.

People like that make me absolutely sick. Rooting that anyone got hurt is infinitely worse than claiming people faked injuries.

He got an ovation from the Hokie fans on that end of the field when they drove him back out.

Guy looked pretty miserable though. Rough day to say the least.

I hope JJ is okay

Let's say JJ is out for a while. Willis starts next week. But what if we lose an ACC game or two early and this becomes the rebuilding year it might have been all along? Who do you play over the rest of the season? Hooker? Patterson? Could get interesting.

At this point if we lose to Duke or UNC I think it's guaranteed that QP3 gets 4 games so he doesn't lose the redshirt. Assuming we lose a conference game early, we revert to "rebuilding year" status, especially since we keep losing guys left and right.

I don't think Patterson sees the field at all this year. By all accounts, he's not ready for college ball yet, and I don't think we're going to be in any position to sacrifice possessions for development reasons this season.

I thought I heard on the game broadcast with Laaser and Burnop that JJ was going to be out 4-6 weeks? But I cannot find anything to support that

Not sure what they communicated on the TV broadcast and I don't have any inside info. But I can tell you after evaluating him on the sideline for about 5 minutes, they carted him off the field to get looked at. They then carted him back to the Tech sideline late in the game. When he came back, he was in a boot and had crutches. The fact he was in "just" a boot and was allowed to walk with assistance from the cart to the bench leads me to believe a bad sprain (likely high ankle sprain) rather than a fracture. Pretty conservatively, I expect he'll be out at least this coming week vs Duke.

I vaguely remember Vick having a high ankle sprain back around 2000 that kept him out or hobbling around for a few weeks. I'm sure every case is different, but these seem to linger for some reason.

Hope it's nothing serious but I'm open to whomever can get us a win, whether that's JJ, Willis or Hooker.

Honestly not that concerned if Josh Jackson is forced to miss significant time. Never like to see anyone hurt but barring Willis performance being just adrenaline, I think we will be fine. He made excellent decisions with the ball and moved with confidence. I saw no urgency or drive other than to put his head down from Jackson yesterday. Willis came in in a very tough situation and performed admirably even if the final result wasnt exactly what we were hoping for. He created as much offense as Jackson in essentially one quarter that Jackson managed in three quarters.

Josh Jackson 8/16 151 9.4 2 1 61.5
Ryan Willis 9/18 131 7.3 1 0 86.8

Josh Jackson 11 58 5.3 0 24
Ryan Willis 4 30 7.5 0 23

I put the final result more squarely on the defense. I think if the coaching staff had any faith that they could stop ODU yesterday on defense, they would have kicked a field goal on that 4th down try and then Willis might have had a legitimate shot at leading a game winning drive but Foster made no adjustments to slow down their outside jump ball game plan.

To your last point. I don't know if that's entirely accurate. Early on in the game we were at least shutting down the run and stopping a lot of the short passes. Towards the end of the game even that stuff was breaking down. He may very well have made some adjustments but the defense just completely collapsed and I'm not sure we could have stopped anything at that point [sobs].

In the post-game interview, Fuente made it sound like we pretty much tried every coverage we have on defense, just none of the adjustments seemed to help

Each time we forced them to a 3rd and long we would commit a personal foul it seemed.

The thought actually crossed my mind of whether we should go for 2 if Willis scored to tie the game. We had no business winning that game and couldn't stop them at all so I think it should have been considered.

Official report: Lower extremity injury.

(kinda /s)

Guess we shouldn't have let Lawson transfer....

I hear that Lawson is already back on campus and filing his "transfer back" paperwork first thing on Monday.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

Sy this is getting old.

OX_VT indicated he's done for the year. Take that for what it's worth.

He has been a little off this season for some reason. Some of his posts on twitter haven't been great.

When a player injures a lower extremity and can't bear weight like jj yesterday, it is a bad sign. I'd be surprised to see him again this year.

Heard he's out for 6-weeks.

Hooker and Willis will be splitting reps with the ones.

That's what I'm interested in to see is who gets reps with the number ones this week I have zero expectation to see fuente put JJ back out there until he's ready

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Six weeks sounds about right for a high ankle sprain, but that looked ugly. I' wouldn't be surprised if there's not a broken bone. There needs to be a Surgeon General Warning about playing the Monarchs being hazardous for your feet.

Leonard. Duh.

Guessing (hoping) that Hooker playing close to home in Durham gets at least one series in the 2nd Q if the game is tied or we have a lead.

I'd really like to see Hooker get some meaningful reps. I think with his speed he has a huge upside in this offense. Unless his arm is really shitty compared to Willis'..

Warning- Filter lost.

Would he be able to take a medical redshirt or did that ship sail with his first redshirt?

I been here since day 0.

to get a 6th year of eligibility a player must have missed 2 seasons (or majority each of two season) due to injury. I don't think he was injured his freshman year, he was just red shirting.

Edit: I read the article more carefully and now I agree with orion86

"This is problematic for athletes took a normal redshirt season or sat out due to a transfer. An athlete can generally not use a medical redshirt in those cases unless they get a clock extension or sixth year waiver. To do that the athlete show they lost two seasons outside of his or her control. The medical redshirt would be one, but the athlete would still need to show another."

This is why the training staff records everything during "healthy" redshirt years because generally each player may get "hurt" during the season or in practice. It may not be serious, but officially the school will likely have records of any and all injuries no matter how small during redshirt years. At least this is how I have been told most schools get the medical redshirt for players.

Does "Dad bod" count as a medical condition?

Let's Go

If Patterson is the real deal like everyone expects him to be, redshirt or not, I'm not sure Jackson would be the guy next year anyway. And I'm not sure he'd stick around to be backup after being a 1.2 year starter

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I do not like seeing people get hurt, but I am eager to see the other QBs get reps. I thought Willis looked more than capable, but we were also playing ODU...

Hate to wish that on anyone, but it's better than a high-ankle sprain.
