Blacksburg becomes first place in the country with FAA approved drone delivery.

Wing has become the first drone delivery company in the US to receive Air Carrier Certification from the FAA, according to a news release. Wing is owned by the parent company of Google.

"Wing worked extensively with the FAA over several years to demonstrate the safety of our aircraft, operations and systems to gain this approval," the release stated. "Safety is our most important focus, and we'll continue to work with the FAA on additional approvals to expand our capabilities."

Drones and drone related fields are huge and will keep being so. We are using more and more of them in emergency services.

I know there are a lot of unknowns here, but my main question is this: can I get a sky robot to bring me sky pizza?

Find a local pizza place to sign up with Wing and yes they will as long as they can keep weight below about 3lbs.

So I guess Benny's isn't an option.

We may have dropped the "invent the future" tagline, but definitely not its spirit.

It's neat seeing Blacksburg/VT being at the forefront of partnership with tech companies to push stuff like this forward.

Company officials said they survey the community to see what kind of items they want delivered by air, which could include over-the-counter medicines and hot meals.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

This will either be awesome or a complete nuisance. I am imagining a constant buzz and drones in the sky like a swarm of locust. Replacing cars on the road and delivery drivers with drone pilots may be a greater public benefit.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

What's a buzz? There's no buzz in blacksburg!

Yeah, but then a mod took it down because someone had already posted a BBC article about drone deliveries in "rural Virginia".

What prevents people from shooting down these drones? Besides morals.

The fact that it's illegal?

stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!

Lots of things are illegal, people still do them.

Yeah, but these drones will have cameras and gps with live feeds. It would be pretty difficult to get away with shooting one down.

You don't have domain over all of the airspace above your property. Public airspace begins at 500 feet, but below that is a grey area that has many contradicting laws.

Town laws prevents discharging of firearms, including bows and crossbows inside town limits. They stray into the County, nothing.

Height. I imagine these aren't buzzing around 60ft off the ground and would stay in public airspace. At that height shooting down a drone with a shotgun would be 100% luck.

Oh that and people probably aren't discharging guns in city limits for safety and legal reasons.

So I am hearing that my best bet is to create a battle drone ao I can knock it down from the sky as ground based attacks are more likely to fail. Got it!

Man, that ninja kick through the windshield is an A+ move.

My go to move when I need to stop someone driving; Chuck Norris the windshield pistol drawn then roll off the hood.

Did this move last week. Couldn't walk for like five minutes due to the chaffing. Afterwards I called up Chuck Norris and he gave me some peanut butter so we could blow some bubbles and relax. Chuck lifted my spirits for sure and I was able to move around well after. To thank him I let him use my WiFi and he finished the internet two times in an hour.

The "through the windshield" move is awesome, as is the backflip off the car afterwards.

The guy is NOT a one trick pony.

His pistol draw seems slow, but his ninja skill are amazing.

SKYNET is coming

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
