Obviously there has been a ton of conversation on TKP regarding Buzz's departure, the coaching search, and Mike Young hire. I was curious to look at traffic numbers, because the site was bumping. On Sunday alone there was over a 300% increase in traffic (pageviews and unique users) year-to-year. That's over 10,000 unique users hitting the site. That's on par with a typical weekday during the football season.
I looked at registered users (those who post and comment) over a trailing 24 hours period. 774 accessed TKP (about an order of magnitude less, which is par for the course). 56% of those users (436) are not TKPC members. Over the same period, there were 693 comments. 57.8% of those (401) were published from non-TKPC members.
To me, that combined with the declined rate of growth of TKPC is disappointing. And it's time for me to re-think my level of commitment with the site (publishing and editing 99% of articles that appear on TKP, writing content, doing all the software engineering) and who that work serves. At one point I was naive enough to believe this could be a self-sustained endeavor, but after three years, I've been proven otherwise.
