Thanks for making this thread. Can't say there's one obvious group of death this year, unless you think Inter is much better than I do and would argue Group F. Groups D, G, and H should be pretty fun with at least 3 teams having a shot at qualifying

In general, Inter's squad doesn't match up, but don't underestimate Antonio Conte. Will absolutely get the best out of every single one of those players.

But overall, I'm excited for this UCL. Pretty exciting groups for the most part.

Conte has changed the Inter squad quite substantially. It is at least going to be an intriguing group.

Conte has changed the Inter squad quite substantially

this is part of why i'm so dubious about them - new manager, overhauled squad probably means taking a little time to bed in

Great draw, hate playing Napoli again, but I think we can navigate a top two finish in that group. Hoping we put a good effort forth defending our cup.

Side note: Thanks Kop for creating this, it's only right the Unbearables crest stays near this thread all season.

I beat you by a few seconds? Hardly makes up for the pain of 1989, but I guess it'll have to do

That Man City group is.... not so daunting.

Yeah it is, I hate the long travel though. that can do a number on your league performance. Plus frankly I relish the chances against good sides to see how were playing at that point

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Yeah it's mostly disappointing for the fans. European football should be a great experience for the fans in the group stage. However, some of those smaller clubs have some pretty exciting (sometimes scary) environments.

i think shaktar and atalanta can actually give city some trouble given the potential defensive issues

Let the defense begin!

Tough matchup against Napoli, but on we fight to protect our European reign! #Unbearables

Looking forward to another year of CL play for not just my Reds, but for every team in the competition.

I am full of hatred for Frank Lampard at the current moment. Wish we were playing in the dome, I'd break his leg.

Although since I haven't played in decades, I may just stand around winded hands on knees.

Today was a forward step as this moron figures out his 3-4-3 isn't competitive in champions league. Unless you're ok with competing with Valencia (clearly a European league team).

I hate being an American because we can't have nice things.

Please Christian, develop middle of the field skills ... it is your world class strength, but it won't be if you don't develop them. Its ok to not be world class on the wing. If you refuse to give up on the wing, please lift for strength gains while you ride the pine on FL's bench. Only shot you have at getting that speed up a notch.

If ma boy don't play gainst the liverputians, I'm taking my cause back to the old country. Not because I want to effect a swift resolution to Brexit, not because my hair is a cross between Boris and Donald's, not because I want to crush Frank on a training field, but because just my presence in country might make the dumbest coach in premier league a little more intelligent.

I didnt catch the game was it that bad I saw the penalty miss but that shit happens and valencia arent an awful side. Franks got lot of issues at the moment but atleast his team are showing some form of understanding to how he wants to play.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

the penalty miss was extra funny bc Barkley had to convince Jorginho to let him take it.

Former gunner coquelin getting away with a nasty challenge on Mount, should've been red and Mount will probably be out through the next international break

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Sorry i was just venting after some vino trying to spark some discussion by being a mad clown. I'm not so much a Chelsea fan as a merican cheering for Pulisic. Nothing else matters 4 me.

Mount and Pulisic are similar players IMHO and Frank seems to prefer Mount's stones. I don't think either guy survives long term against the best competition down the wing. I think Pulisic has more touch and vision in the middle, but Mount is getting the minutes recently at least.

Off ball motion, defense, anticipating the movement, and executing the pass. Pulisic gotta work on the defense and working on syncing up with his mates. Definitely Chelsea's motion is getting better recently.

Grindstone baby. Outwork 'em you'll get your shot, somewhere.

Issue for CP is that frank didnt sign him and Mount was working with frank all last season at derby so you cant blame him for prefering a player he knows much better.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Robertson can't make contact like that inside the box, period! There is clear contact on the play, but MAN is VAR a waste of time thus far in the CL. How you don't overturn that dive, is beyond me.

Nevertheless Van Dijk/Robertson screwed up towards the end, and VAR couldn't help at all with that rare blunder.

I am sick of playing Napoli (CL/preseasons), but man I respect them and all that Ancelotti does on the pitch.

Move on to the next one, and hope we can finish the group stage strong.

Like Ancelotti said, last time we lost to Napoli away, we won the CL, here's hoping for the same result, especially with the final being in Istanbul. Long way to go till then though. In my CJF voice "we gotta go 1-0" next time out.

Up the Reds!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Salzburg beat Genk 6-2 in the other game in the group...if we can't get out of that group with 20 goals scored, then...well, I won't know what to think. But I do know we're still officially the Champions of Europe.

That we are KH, and we have all the way till next Spring/Summer to tout that reality LOL

Salzburg looked good though, I think if we can get one game from Salzburg/Genk, and win all of our games at Anfield, we should easily get through.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I'm a VAR supporter but I really don't understand why they continue to get so many things wrong, when they have every opportunity to get it right. Are there some kinda unwritten rules going on, like in baseball, that contributes? Genuine question. I didn't grow up watching and don't know all the nuances.

Hokie fan | W&M grad

It has to be a clear error in judgement by the referee. I think once Andy makes contact with his knee, it made the penalty unclear, even though the attacker was already falling forward. I think VAR is more of a pandering to the fans, rather than an opportunity to get the call right. Soccer values the accuracy of it's officials, and I think early in VAR stages, it's obvious that's the case.

It would be hard to believe that the refs didn't have the slow mo that's seen in the tweet above.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Ah, I see - it makes sense in that light though somewhat counterproductive. Thanks for the reply.

Hokies: I'm going to disappoint you.
Spurs: Hold my beer.

creditable draw...not a terrible result. Plus, finalists last year and top 4. I'd say Spurs fans should be elated by what's going on right now. They're the best team in London, something they haven't been for a long, long time.

Question is being the best team in london really setting the bar that high with how bad arsenal have been and with chelsea off a bit shouldnt spurs try to push further? Just food for thought

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

From having lived in London for five years in the early 80s...yes, it absolutely is important to be the best team in London. The Spurs fans I went to school with always had an inferiority complex towards Arsenal (for good reason as Arsenal are the most successful team from London by a country mile) and I'm guessing they're lording it over Arsenal fans currently. Chelsea were a non-factor at the time they were in the second division...QPR was a far more successful club back then...hell, so was Watford if you can believe that.

best team in london couldn't score on newcastle at home

Happens to every club GGC, you guys aren't alone, nature of the game, one man's trash...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I believe he left to pursue playing time-Wenger wanted to extend his contract. At least that's what my brother told me at the time. I remember him as a dynamic player before he had a serious knee injury. Amazing comeback.

it's my understanding there was a Bundesliga loan in the cards when he came back from the knee but Gazidis wanted him to stay in England and loaned him to West Brom where Tony Pulis hardly ever put him in the matchday squad. He only made one appearance and so then was recalled in January because of it, and then he elected not to extend his contract with Arsenal who pretty much had to sell because he had a year left on his deal -- and didn't put in a buyback or a sell-on clause in the deal, so after a year at Werder Bremen, Bayern got him for 8m euros.

Also look at Donyell Malen - sold for 645k by Gazidis and now lighting it up for PSV

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Ok...good info. Don't bash Wenger too much, he made killing on many players in the 90s like Henry, Anelka, Vieira and Ljundberg (amongst many)...so much so that his shrewd transfer dealings helped Arsenal fund their new stadium. A far cry from the way Hicks and Gillette nearly ran LFC into administration.

it seemed pretty clear to me that towards the tail end of the Wenger era it was Gazidis was handling the transfer/contract dealings rather than Wenger. Felt like his hands in particular were tied more often than not from say 2013-on as we saw the club hesitant to aggressively tie down players to progressive deals

OT: Tifo football is doing a 3 part series on La Masia, and how it's gone downhill over the last few years:

I'm really interested in learning more about this academy process, and seeing the statistics behind hit or misses. Gnarby leaves me wondering how common is it for prospects to produce at other clubs.

Losing Bobby Duncan has really opened my eyes. Interested to find more information on how well LFC is doing with young talent. By the looks of it, Man City is beefing up the academy under Pep.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

An easy example is Pogba as well it happens sometimes not always because they talent isn't recognized sometimes agents play a role as well so many factors in youth academies

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I think you also have to give some credit to Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim for some of his development. He was always a positive player as a youngster at Arsenal, but he made huge leaps in Germany before hitting the pitch for Bayern.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

yes, that's true. just makes me even more sad that we couldn't have loaned him to Werder Bremen ourselves instead of to freaking WBA

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Yeah I'm definitely in agreement about Gazidis's role in the later years. Gnabry is actually pretty low on my list of complaints, but he's on there. The WBA move made no sense.

Tremendous match. Salzburg are GOOD, they can win the Europa League. DC United alum Jesse Marsch and his team did themselves proud today (and all through the group stage). One for the future.

They are amazing! Their pace is lightening quick. Those first 5 minutes had my heart racing. Mentality Giants we are though. Jesse Marsch is very talented, look forward to seeing where his career takes him. So, SO thankful that Naby is finally resembling the midfielder we thought we were getting in the beginning. Salah's finish was sublime; however, we should've won 5-0 with all the chances he missed...smh. I'm just happy to be through, now we can focus on the league for a little bit at least until February. So thankful we avoided the travel associated with the Europa League.

I am here for a repeat of the 2012 Champions League final!

Waking up to Man City in the Ro16 was a pretty fitting start to a Monday where I already hadn't gotten enough sleep.

I realize they haven't had the best run of form and lots of injuries this Fall, but it's silly to project that (relative) poor run of form/injuries all the way out to when we will actually play.

Remember when PSG drew Man u last year and we all laughed and laughed even us Man u fans were laughing at the forseeable destruction joses bunch were gonna take then Ole came out of nowhere for the KO? A lot can change from the day of the draw to the games being played

Itll be an interesting tie fasho. I'm really hoping foden continues to get chances we look like a different squad with him out there

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Why hasn't Foden gotten more game action? Pep talks about him like he's the next big thing, yet he's rarely on the pitch.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Hes actually appeared fairly often. I think peps trying to protect him from the english media, and is employing a similar strategy that he did with xavi. His minutes are actually significantly higher than Xavis at a similar age. That and I think were trying to convince gundogan to stay (which I'd much rather have foden out there) and have a good sendoff for anaconda silva

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Round of 16 draw in full:

Borussia Dortmund vs. Paris Saint-Germain
Real Madrid vs. Manchester City
Atalanta vs. Valencia
Atletico Madrid vs. Liverpool
Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich
Lyon vs. Juventus
Tottenham vs. RB Leipzig
Napoli vs. Barcelona

Thoughts on Atletico Kop? I don't fear their attack, I do fear them parking the bus. I think what I fear even more though is their tendency for dirty play. Hoping we can get through them injury free, so it won't derail our EPL campaign thus far.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I think the team that manages an away goal will win the tie. simeone is a masterful defensive mind, they will be tough. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it goes to penalties after extra time with two 0-0 draws haha

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

I haven't seen them play this season but they have plenty of young talent, though I think they've lost a bit up front with Griezmann's departure and Lemar ('memba him?) reverting to the mean. They will definitely park the bus and hope to hit us on the counter. We could be looking at 180 minutes of frustration and requiring penalties to advance. If we can nick a goal in the away leg, I think we should be able to advance. Quite intrigued by this matchup, actually-I'm a bit amazed we haven't played them in a while since we've both gone deep in the tournament recently.

Yeah that's where I'm at, I'm hopeful that we can get an away goal, and confident our backline can stop their forward line. Avoid injuries, and advance, that's all that matters to me.

The cynic in me says, going out of the CL, and focusing on the league, isn't the worst thing that can happen, especially if MC, lose to RM. If it were anywhere but Istanbul for the final, I would be perfectly fine if things played out this way. Not that I want to lose, but winning the league is far more important to me after a 30 year wait.

My predictions:
Borussia Dortmund vs. Paris Saint-Germain

If Napoli weren't in a weird managerial situation, i'd agree with them as a sleeper pick -- but Gattuso just doesn't have the UCL track record of Ancelotti and who knows how the squad will play. This far out, barca's gotta be the pick there.

Rough draw for Manchester City for sure -- they can definitely do it, but City haven't really been solid at the back with Laporte being out and i don't think he'll be back in time to make a difference in the Ro16 tie.

This is the proper place so you're good. Can't see Pep sticking around now, there was speculation he would leave at the end of this season anyway.

Will probably be more than Pep. Unless they can get some of those mega stars to somehow buy in to 2 years in the wilderness in Europe....KDB is about to be Real Madrid's Valentine.

KDB to Madrid? Hadn't seen that particular rumor but it would make sense. If they also land Mbappe, holy hell they'd be unstoppable (on paper). How much cash do they actually have? That would cost upwards of half a billion to land them both unless they do a player exchange, but who'd be willing to go in the opposite direction? Citeh don't sing "Blue Moon" for nothing.

No rumors until the ban came down today, I'd imagine. KDB is going absolutely nowhere if City's appeal succeeds...but it seems to me like a bunch of those guys aren't willingly sitting out of UCL football for 2 years. I think Pep leaves and several ask to be sold.

Only way it doesnt hurt them is if they can get an appeal and reduce it to one year instead andcan somehow keep pep interested but this has the feeling of a solid ban.

It ain't gonna be easy, Diego can surely regiment a side well. Hopeful to at least come away with one away goal.

Edit 2: Commence "project Anfield drama" I tell you, the Reds know how to keep my heart racing. Tough match, Simeone was always going to be tough at home. They went up 2-0 on Juve last CL campaign though, so we'll see what we can do.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Yeah, that went about as expected. If athletico plan to do the same thing at Anfield, I see Liverpool doing enough to advance though.

Yeah the tactical fouls, and deep positioning in their half after the early goal, was the best case scenario for them. The moment we drew them I was worried about the away leg. We looked like we had a winter break, just like we did against Norwich. Hopefully the March 11th leg will go better at Anfield.

TL;DR: I'll take a 1-0 loss, with the performance we put in.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Haaland is the real deal. I think his scoring rate will inevitably return from the stratosphere to something more normal over time, but he has the predatory instincts and positioning that strikers 10 years older than him often never master.

Love to see 17-year old American Gio Reyna with the game winning assist as well

I think we all can agree TNT's streaming / entire set up is garbage

VB born, class of '14

It was only two years ago that Fox would at least give you the option to watch both major knockout matches with your regular access to the site/channel.

TNT/BR has only been televising one CL match a day, while hiding the other and many other group stage games behind a paywall.

I'm really hoping someone who actually cares about European football buys the rights next.

Wasn't that long ago you could watch every PL match whether on TV or streaming and now its $50 a year to see any games not being televised. I think whoever has the rights sees that a fair enough amount of people will ultimately pay to watch their team play.

Fox knew how to do it eanwhile B/R is a joke i hate that they got the rights to the champions league theyre coverage is utter shit. Just like espn buying serie A and only doing one game a week on ESPN or ESPN 2 the rest on a paywall. Hope your a Juve fan otherwise you dont get to see shit unless your team plays Juve.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Honestly, I would be elated if ESPN bought the rights to La Liga and put most of it behind ESPN+, it's cheap for a sub service ($4.99/mo), and it's way more accessible than BeIN Sports, which usually requires the highest tier cable package to access directly, or a lesser TV streaming service like FuboTV or Sling.

Though overall, I agree all these situations are frustrating in different ways.

I've gotten a solid glute workout with as tight as my ass cheeks have been this match. RBL plays ferocious. Reminds me of Wolves. Spurs are hanging in tough with Son. Very fortunate it's still even.

We only lose to clown goalkeeping. Gracias el payaso Adrian.

I'd be more keen to blame the forwards not the backup goalie just my two cents though.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Well...Robertson's sitter where he hit the bar instead of scoring would've rendered Adrian's error mute so you're mostly right, except he's a left back.

Or we could blame them both, and then we won't have to convince him that his point is "totally" right 🤣

Adrian's blunder certainly killed any momentum we had, but we had more than enough chances to run the score up and put it out of reach, we gotta get back to the ruthless finishing else the wait to raise the EPL trophy is gonna be exhausting.

On to next year, at least my 6 trophies gear will be relevant for another year. I want it next season though.

I'm hoping for a Leipzig v Atalanta final...bet that would be entertaining

Adrian's blunder doesn't help but a better performance by mane, or Salah and they could've run away with it but gotta give credit to atleti as well nobody but themselves thought they could have gone scoring more than one away goal. Guess it's why they play the games though still an incredible year for Liverpool but gotta be a little meh after the insane start to be where they are now but come this weekend or next when y'all wrap up the title I bet it'll feel damn good.

We haven't won the league in 30 years, we're European champions (till June), Uefa Super Cup Champions, and World Club Champions; and if this Covid holds off for awhile we'll be EPL champions, I assure you, on the inside, this season is anything but meh 🤣 (maybe the outsiders feel that way)

This....there will be a massive parade in liverpool with the EPL trophy on a bus that might dwarf the champions league parade when such a thing is allowed due to this virus thing.

Your defense was to blame, not a back up goalkeeper. How do you let Llorente, a defensive midfielder, get a shot off when surrounded by three red shirts? The entire back line looked so lackadaisical in defense on the goal that mattered most.

KopH: gotta love when the supporters of other teams tell us the deficiencies of our squad. I guess it's nice getting outside opinions, as I'm sure our Red-tinted glasses are on. I would play the obligatory "is your team even in the competition" card, but honestly it's nice to get some outside opinions. So long as they aren't pushing the agenda that our team is utter shite.

There were miscues on various levels, I would totally agree with that. However, the beauty of the sport is the way a team responds to those miscues. Amidst numerous miscues, our Reds have gone to 3 European finals in the last 4 years, and won one of them, and lost in the knockout stages this year. I'll take that over playing on Thursdays or throwing rocks from the sidelines any day. To each his own though. (Not implying you guys are hating, but it's interesting when people chime in only when our team takes an L)

Who gives a shit if my team is in the competition? Yours isn't anymore lol. The point is if you go back and watch the goal, the entire back line looked like they couldn't be arsed to be out there.

Says the guy who's team wasn't even in the competition...LOL

Pay the guy a compliment for giving us an outside opinion, and he comes back with this. Point proven. We still got that chip till June, and as I said, cheers to the next champion. Rather be a team that's out of the competition, yet still the champion, than a team who didn't even make the competition. But I'm sure you'll come up with something to counter that argument too.

Conversation...LOL, sure buddy. As I said on my other post, I'll end all of this with, Up the Reds, and I'll move on.

You attacked my opinion by saying "I could say your team wasn't even in the competition." How is that paying me a compliment?

Key words, "I could", and disregard the earliest portion of the message:

I guess it's nice getting outside opinions, as I'm sure our Red-tinted glasses are on

But I'm attacking...
Whatever man, it's all good, Up my Reds, that's honestly all I'll say to end this back and forth.

That's an interesting take but not one I agree with. There's a ton of credibility to say our front line was wasteful in front of goal, with Salah especially culpable lately (not just in this game) but to say our defense was the reason we lost the game is suspect at best. Remember that Llorente was a sub and was fresh and our back line had just been running all over the pitch for 100 minutes, so after that awful "clearance" by Adrian you expect them to run a 4.3 40 to recover? OK...I don't blame them, though. I thought Liverpool played a great game with some excellent link-up play and thoroughly deserved to go through, it was not to be in the end. We've certainly ridden our luck this season, especially in the EPL, so I suppose this is our comeuppance.

I'm still going to blame Adrian for the loss (as if it makes any difference what I think) and am convinced that if Alisson was playing that mistake doesn't happen. This hurts worse than when Karius lost the final a couple of years ago, as we were never up in that game.

I'd like to see Werner come in, perhaps sell Salah for a princely sum, bring in a reliable left back and definitely a young backup goalkeeper (perhaps promote Kelleher from within) for next season. Once we clinch the league, there's little left to look forward to the rest of the way from a LFC perspective.

Good luck to all the teams left in the competition, except Atletico. To play the way they play with their budget and world-class talent is borderline criminal.

Kop, I can always depend on you to be the level headed voice in the room LOL. You handled his shade better than me LOL.

It wasn't shade. I agree with him, the defense did not play well.

https://eplscouts.com/adrian-mistake-llorente-goal-vs-liverpool-video/

it's definitely not that clear cut to me. i don't know that lackadaisical is the right word, but flat might be? Adrian did them exactly zero favors by trying to ping a low pass through the lines against the defenders' momentum as opposed to just swinging it wide to Robertson or putting his foot through it and clearing it deep. also he wrong footed himself in his scramble back to goal.

That said, Gomez needed to close down stronger instead of running up and flattening out to allow the pass. VVD naturally drops as a result, but he's the one who winds up playing llorente onside. then TAA forces him inside, but doesn't challenge him and eases back after llorente's first touch. Maybe he expected a backtracking henderson to challenge, but llorente pulled the trigger before he could... and with no threat outside, TAA could have stuck a boot in

Great analysis/conversation starter GGC, will need to review the play itself. Was listening to it while I was on the radio at work, and then got home to watch the rest, the game was a blur. As I mentioned above though, there were several miscues all over the pitch, that contributed to our loss.

How about that Dortmund collapse though? That's conversation worthy! PSG showing some fight!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

did you seriously just get into a petty -1 slap fight on the internet because you disagreed when someone said they thought the defense was lackadaisical .... and you hadn't even seen the goal in question?

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Nah saw the goal, clearly if I was watching it real time, just haven't looked back at it in depth is what I was getting at.

Edit: You're right though GGC (I was wrong), petty downvotes aren't my style, clearly still frustrated by the loss. Legs restored. I nominate you to be a moderator LOL. Fellow Big Blue supporters holding each other accountable. Leg for you sir.

To be fair I was talking about the goal that occurred in the 105 minute. But agree with your points nonetheless.

I wouldn't be surprised if multiple leagues get cancelled, the Euros get moved to 2021, and the Champion's League just doesn't have a conclusion this season.

It may not be all of those things, but I would imagine at least one of those things happens. There simply won't be enough time to do all of them.

UCL Draw got released today:

Jesus fuck one half of the bracket (they drew up to semis) has the following teams

City Real Barca Bayern and chelsea juventus

The other half: atletico psg Leipzig and atalanta. If psg dont make the finals it will be hilarious. The only team that should give them any pause is Atletico

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Atalanta might be a bigger surprise if theyre in the one leg games they can score a pile of goals.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

yeah, big to remember that it won't be the typical 2-leg ties

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Didn't citeh smoke Real in Madrid? Does that have no bearing on the tie? If so, that's terribly unfair

Smoke? They beat us 2-1

And the unfinished second legs will be played out as regular two legged toes, though the location hasn't been decided last I checked.

Two away goals...that's huge. Ok I think I get it now, thanks.

Away goals are obviously huge, and they will have their two away goals. The one leg only applies after those unfinished Ro16 matches are completed. Additionally, while many teams struggle on the road, we rarely do. Very mid 2000's VT in ACC road games-esque.

However, smoked does not accurately describe that game. They certainly finished as the better side, but early on we looked in control. Things spiraled out of control at the end for us, they scored twice in a 5 minute stretch (78' to 83'), one of which was a penalty, then Ramos tactical red to prevent a third. That's how football goes though.

Thanks for the recap-that game was nearly 5 months ago and it's probably city's greatest European night, they are now going for the big cup treble. Gonna be interesting, on their day they appear unstoppable.

I don't mean to downplay them at all. I think they are absolutely favorites to go through, but I've seen us come through worse so I never completely lose faith in Madrid in the CL.

This is also not a Madrid team that is built as well to come from behind. We are a much more defensive, pragmatic side this season than previous years. I believe we are down a full goal/game this season (~1.8) compared to Zidane's first two full seasons (~2.8 and ~2.6), but our defense has been substantially more solid and consistent.

Yeah that was a wild game, couldve easily had 2 more goals. This is far from over

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

They can, but at the same time if they went into a game against any of those teams I listed in the other half theyd be heavy underdogs, I do enjoy watching them play and I'm pulling for them in that half especially considering they were in citys group

Update:

Curious to see where the Europa League finds itself if even broadcasted at all.

Wow, airing the Final on CBS SN seems like a huge slap in the face. I'm about as casual as you can get following soccer, but that seems like a horrible place to put the game. Is there an event on regular CBS at that time?

I'm an avid follower, and I probably won't even watch the Final unless I go to a bar. This is certain to be the future what with the FA Cup entirely on ESPN+

Yup atleast FOX used to air the semis and final on the national broadcast instead ESPN put the NBA and Bassmasters on ESPN and ESPN2, not gonna knock the bassmaster classic I love that stuff but come on a big rivalry in a cup final and they put it behind a paywall.

Found out that the games are on Univision and Galavision for free (at least the Man City v Madrid and Chelsea v Bayern-my xfinity sportsapp doesn't go any farther out than that). If you don't mind watching it in Spanish, this is a free option. YES!

I dont mind the spanish commentary, I may not understand all but a few words but damnit if they dont get into the games and the goal celebrations are awesome. I love thier passion for the game. Thanks for the heads up I'll try and figure out how to make ti work so I can watch the City, madrid game should be fun.
