OT: Summer concert thread

Idea for the thread spawned by APFOW's Red Rocks plans in the Colorado thread.

My brother and I are planning to see Govt Mule down the shore in a few weeks. We saw them in 2016 and it was an incredible show, so definitely a no-brainer for us to see them again. I also have tickets to see Vulfpeck at MSG in September and can't wait. Might try to get to see Citizen Cope too since he'll be close, but not sure if I wanna see him enough to justify the ticket price.

Who's everyone planning to see this summer?

If you are a Zephead try to get to Get The Led Out! They are not impersonators. They are a tribute. There are 6 members and they recreate the studio tracks of Zep. Very talented!

You listen to Greta Van Fleet? Sounds like a modern day Zep

I do for sure! I hear many influences from the 70's. They are very refreshing.

I'm a musician so when I don't have gigs myself I will be seeing mostly heavier bands. Anyone that plays within a few hour drive from Blacksburg on a weekend.

I definitely plan on seeing Baroness on their new album tour
Torche

I mostly like heavier music live.

Curious about your thoughts on the new Baroness album. Been a fan of this band since they were playing house shows in Lexington, but I'm trying hard to get into the latest sound. Definitely some very new sounds but I'm having trouble getting into it and listening obsessively.

I've seen them several times since the beginning too in the various formations that they've had. The new album is certainly more melodic and softer. It hasn't completely soaked in yet. The way that I got into their softer stuff starting with Yellow and Green was by getting hammered and laying on the beach one night with it on repeat. It grew on me. I think Gina is a bad ass and brings her own thing to the table. Going to see them in a few months. Haven't seen Gina live in person yet.

Also, not til October but City and Color is gonna be in NYC and I'm definitely thinking about that. Hear he's great live with a full band

I recommend it. I saw him in Albuquerque a few years ago. It was great.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

I'll probably prioritize going, then!

Dallas Green is awesome

Recruit Prosim

Hopefully making it to the Tedeschi Trucks Band show when they're in town.

The Temptations & Four Tops are playing the day before Ben Harper & Trombone Shorty are in town, so I have a decision to make there.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band is playing Red Rocks Friday and Saturday after the Trampled By Turtles show on Wednesday, and John Prine is playing Sunday. I would love to figure out a way to catch all of them without cutting into our CO sightseeing. I'm torn. That would be one hell of a show week. But on the other hand, neither of us have been to CO before. It's almost criminal to cut out more shows or more sightseeing. Something has to give.

John Prine is one of my favorite singer-songwriters ever. First saw him in 1972...yeah, I'm old.

I would love to see Tedeschi Trucks Band. They do a stand at the Beacon Theater in NYC seemingly every year and maybe I'll snag tickets for October

Anyone in the Richmond area and into Red dirt scene William Clark Green will be at the Richmond Music Hall June 30th
Read Southall Band in DC at Hill Country Live in August.

Vroom Vroom

Hmm...may try and sneak up for that. Speaking of the red dirt scene, are Turnpike (more specifically Evan) gonna get their shit together? They're so damn good, but damn he has some demons. The video from that benefit concert is hard/sad to watch.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Hope he's getting the help he needs. He was a mess that whole concert.

Vroom Vroom

Word on the street is they're all gonna take a break until he gets his shit figured out

Teenage Bottlerocket next week

Bad Religion with The Lawrence Arms in August

Debating a few others, but we shall see. I had wanted to see Nas at Wolf Trap in July but drug my feet and it is sold out and tickets are punishingly expensive on the secondary market.

Pretty good slate into the fall that I'm looking forward to as well including Don Broco, Dinosaur Jr, and The Bouncing Souls.

What a savings

+1 on Gov't Mule

My summer concert schedule as of now:

6/26 - Dead & Company - Bristow, VA (4th year running)
7/7 - Gov't Mule - Manteo, NC
8/3 - Jimmy Buffett - Virginia Beach, VA (3rd year running)
9/14 - Willie Nelson's Outlaw Music Fest - Virginia Beach VA

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I'm watching The Dangerous Summer tomorrow night. Also Anberlin in July and Video Games Live in October. I need to see what else is coming to Raleigh now that I think about it....

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

My wife really likes Dangerous Summer. Have seen them with her a few times. They put on a good show.

What a savings

It turns out that the singer for the opening band is HokieEnginerd's doppelgΓ€nger and it's very eerie. Also, the vocals are shit, so there is that.

Who opened? I need to see my hubby's doppleganger. Although I know for a fact that it was not him because A) we were watching Canadian football last night and B) HE can't sing.

2 time Longwood grad married to a Hokie.

It was the Aerosmith. Congratulations, you married Steven Tyler's doppelganger. /Sss.

It was a damn good time. TDS were very energetic and engaging with the crowd. I think the audio mix was a little off, but it was still a great performance.

Not this summer but did anyone go see Mumford and Sons at JPJ in March? It was an awesome show. Made even better with Marcus making fun of UVA for losing to FSU the night before.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Me and my wife went. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. But whewww...St. Patricks + Vienna Lagers + that concert made for one drunk dude.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I didn't drink a single beer at that concert. The lines were insane. It was a blast though. Could not believe Marcus ran all the way to the top of the arena and never missed a line.

Forgot about that lol yeah that was pretty badass.

Lotta country acts (for those into it) at Innsbrook After Hours (Chris Young, Justin Moore, Jake Owen, LBT, Brantley Gilbert). Additionally, B2M & EW&F will be there. The Mrs. & I caught Luke Combs in Va. Beach a couple weekends ago for their Patriotic Summer Music Fest.

ABGT Weekender at the Gorge. It's definitely a venue everyone should check out at some point.

Thanks Frank!

Looks like MJB, Wu-Tang Clan, Nelly, Buffett, Goo Goo Dolls, Sublime & Korn will all be stopping over in VA.

Jimmy Buffet- VB Amphitheater
Korn/Alice and Chains- VB Amphitheater
LiVE/Bush/Our Lady Peace- Baltimore
Alarm/Gene Loves Jezebel/Modern English- Nofolk
STP/Rival Sons- Norfolk

Jeremiah 29:11 and Go Hokies!

Perhaps a little out-of-the box, but my wife and I saw the Santa Fe Desert Chorale recently, and they are incredible. Probably the most talented group of musicians I have ever seen perform. I'll definitely try to see them again.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Well since we're touching on that, the NSO is going to be presenting Goblet of Fire (playing the music along to it) @ Wolf Trap.

I'm seeing Ona in July. They're a little less known but are picking up popularity fast. They played in Richmond not too long ago. I'm also seeing Hall and Oates in August. This will be my second time seeing them. Both are in Huntington, WV.

Marshall University student.
Virginia Tech fanatic.

We saw Hall&Oates last year.....what a catalog of songs to pull from.
And their band is tits.
McCartney 2 weeks ago....dude is 77 and legit played 3 straight hours....
Got Hootie coming up and Chris Stapleton in Charleston.

Saw the struts a few weeks ago and had an absolute blast. The norva is a great venue and they were a really fun band. Special shoutout to their opening act Des Rocs too, I think they're gonna be big

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Lonely Island - Anthem, June
Godsmack - MGM, July
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - 930, August

plus a metal show or two at Fillmore Silver Spring or Atlas Brewing.

Barenaked Ladies opening for Hootie and the Blowfish in Virginia Beach two weeks ago.

BNL is punctual. Concert was supposed to start at 7:30, they're walking on stage at 7:29. Played the Big Bang Theory theme a few minutes after 8, which was funny because it was a Thursday night.

Dead & Compnay, Charlotte and Atlanta. Wherever you are, don't miss it if you were/are a Dead Head!

Took the "kids" down to Charlotte Friday last minute. Had a blast. Still have "they love each other" running through my head.

I'll be there

I missed Robert Randolph in Blacksburg last weekend.
At the rate I'm going, I'll be lucky to make it to my own gigs.

Hootie and the Blowfish at JLL and Merriweather....

Saw Alan Jackson in April in Roanoke, that was a great concert!
Upcoming:
Parachute in Charlottesville in a few weeks
ABBA in Atlanta in July
NF in Raleigh in September

I really want to see Jimmy Buffet in VA Beach, but I'm not sure that'll happen.

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

Strumbella's last week (awesome show)

Pumped for Nathaniel Rateliff and Vampire Weekend both at Red Rocks later in the year.

Forgot to include this one, though it definitely wasn't a summer concert. Got to see Metallica in Raleigh back in January and holyyy shit they still got it.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Went and saw Hirie, Matisyahu, Tribal Seeds and Slightly Stoopid last Friday at the VB Amp. Really looking forward to seeing Rebelution and Collie Budz later this summer. If I can make time for it, I'd really like to see Citizen Cope again. They are playing at the VB oceanfront in a few weeks.

Gov't mule got cut short by lightning on friday :C

Kinda hype to see FLAW as I haven't really listened to them since middle school

Dead & Co. killed it in Bristow last week

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

So, who wants to add to their summer concerts? We're not going to be able to make it to the Trampled by Turtles show after all.

TBT @ Red Rocks, July 24th
Reserved seats, Row 5

We have an entire package that also includes a shuttle to the show and back from Union Station.

If anyone is interested, we can talk price. I haven't listed them online just yet, but any TKPer will get much better than what I put them up for on Stubhub. dakerrjr@vt.edu

Just got back from the Anberlin show at the Ritz (which I just found out is practically in my backyard.) I dont know how, but they sound much better and are much, much better performers now than they were back in the band's heyday. 10/10 would recommend.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

duuuuuuuude yes, they're one that's on my list

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Just added a couple more shows to my lineup.

Dead & Co. Fall Fun Run at the Mothership!! Fuck yes!!

Also Gov't Mule, Keller Williams and PBR at the Pungo Jamboree

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I've seen PBR three times. Those dudes are willlldddd. Got to talk with them at Rooster Walk a few years ago. Chill as hell off stage lol

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Definitely are wild, they play down here in the OBX a couple times a year. Got the chance to chat with the drummer for a little bit when they played the now defunct OBX Brewfest

For the metal nerds: Saw Fit For a King and Norma Jean last Tuesday at Peabody's in VB. It was mental people were hanging from the ceiling (including me lol).
