BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente announced on Wednesday that Pierson Prioleau has been named Director of Player Development – Defense. A first-team All-BIG EAST selection and a team captain for Frank Beamer as a senior in 1998, Prioleau played an integral role in helping Tech establish itself as a national football power in the 1990s. A four-year letterwinner for the Hokies, the Alvin, South Carolina native enjoyed a 12-year NFL career and earned a Super Bowl XLIV ring with the New Orleans Saints.

"Pierson will serve as a valuable resource for our players and coaches with his experience as a former student-athlete at Virginia Tech, along with his NFL experience and background working in education following his playing career," Fuente said. "Pierson possesses valuable relationships with coaches across our region in addition to lifelong bonds with his former teammates that make him an ideal candidate to serve as an ambassador for our program.

Experience at Tech, in NFL and as a high school coach. This is a great hire.

Good pickup to take over JHam's old spot. Another Hokie with NFL experience on staff to help sell VT in recruiting.

Just to offer clarity, in this role he'll be able to recruit on-campus only.

Yeah I'm aware of that. I seem to recall some recruits last year having positive things to say about their on campus interactions with JHam and am hoping PP can continue that. If he does well, maybe have him take over for Mitchell in a year.

Agreed

It's still a former player with legit NFL experience on staff to help recruiting. Don't think it will take long for him to find his way to a full time coaching position.

Gobble Till You Wobble

Clearly an effort to recruit his three sons.

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

Might be a stepping stone to a future staff position. Whether that's true or not, I like this hire.

Really like the hire and all these Hokies on staff.

What does the position entail and is there a comparable role for offense? Can't say I've heard of that before

I'm pretty stoked about this hire. PP was the man when he played here. He played hard and physical and really seemed to understand Bud's defense. You'd never see him out of position.

I'm kind of disappointed that he (presumably) won't be on the pre-game show on the Bear any more, though. Other than his constantly referring to Fuente as Fuentes (You're gonna have to straighten that out now that he's your boss, my friend!), I really loved listening to him talk football.

β€œYou got one guy going boom, one guy going whack, and one guy not getting in the endzone.”
― John Madden (describing VT's offense?)

Hopefully he wears that super bowl ring on all big recruiting weekends.

Seems interesting that they are pulling in a lot of guys who know Bud's defense. Makes me wonder if they are planning ahead with the intent of carrying on Bud's foundation when he retires.

Great hire and love all these players getting into the mix. Seems Fu is good with bringing past players into the fold and getting them really involved.

As someone who knows someone who wrecked a golf cart and suffered an injury with significant life long consequences, my initial reaction was that this looks insanely dangerous. Admittedly I don't know anything about the context of this clip but I'm still fairly surprised it happened.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Fuente: "How much do you like moms?"
Prioleau: "More than Torrian, less than Galen."
Fuente: "You're hired."

Would be hall of fame if Galen was spelled correctly.

This needs to go to plaid.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Is there such thing as double-plaid?

Nice, just need to get a certain badass former lb/de on the staff now to get some grit back into the D...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

Cornell Brown?

I was thinking Corey Moore but yes him too

Corey Moore would terrify recruits and their family. I loved him as a player but as a coach....

Now let's see how Xavier Adibi develops as a coach over a Texas A&M Commerce.

I like this hire a lot. CJF is starting to reach back into the Beamer era for successful alumni to fill out his staff.

There are more options out there too. I'm fairly certain Lorenzo Ward was named DC at Chattanooga. Depending on how that goes, he could be on the radar.

Loren Johnson is the HC at Highland Springs HS. You're thinking of another former Hokie, Lorenzo Ward, who is heading into his first year as DC at Chattanooga.

You are correct; I am ashamed.

Is this a job the team has always had? I'm still hoping for Loren Johnson in the future. I like what I have read about him.
