Not going to lie, I didn't know Trader Joe's existed. Apparently there are none in West Virginia.

bruh... you're seriously missing out.

Na, WV has aldi's, he's good

Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi.

What's
Important
Now

It is not.

There is Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud, which are two distinct companies. Aldi Nord operates TJ's, and Aldi Sud operates Aldi stores.

They are in the same holding company, just 2 separate divisions.

What's

Simple Googling shows that they started as the same company but the two founding brothers split to make the two "divisions". They're legally and financially distinct from each other, not just arms of the same holding company. One company operates Aldi in the US, the other operates TJ's. The money doesn't go to the same place.

I did know this, I just don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

Sounds like the guys that own the companies that make the right and left Twix bars

There is no way I can compare an Aldi's to a Trader Joe's, no matter how I try. Interesting that they are both in the same corporation, but I still can't. Trader Joe's Rocks! Can't wait until there is one in Cburg (rumors are circulating).

Sure you can you put wegmans on one side and watch if dwarf the trader Joe's and aldi's of the world.

I never have seen the appeal to TJ. It's just rebranded stuff. I can get the same stuff and Aldis or Giant

This exact scenario is about to occur in Raleigh. Wegmans is opening up across the street from Trader Joes in North Raleigh. There's also a Wegmans coming to Cary near the Trader Joes.

Yeah my brother in law grew up in NY and loves wegmans but now lives in Cary and is super happy.

I wasn't talking about Wegmans......
Wegmans is great, any Aldi's I've been in, not.

Aldi is great for the basics. It really is a heck of a lot cheaper than other options. I won't buy certain things there that I'm picky about like bacon or pasta sauce. Typically I'll go there first to get what I can then move on to another store like Kroger for anything Aldi couldn't provide.

Didn't know what Aldi's was either until I got to college. Rural WV isn't exactly known for its culture or friendly business environment.

We got one in Clarksburg when I was in college.

Everything was nicer than the shopnsave in my hometown. The few times I got to go to that Aldi or kroger on Emily drive were big moments for me.

My mom and dad live in Middletown, DE, and about 2 years ago they wouldn't shut up that they just got an Aldi and a Lidl. I was like "WTF are either of those things?"

After visiting them my last trip home, I have to say I was not terribly impressed. Trader Joe's is great for their frozen offerings and the premade stuff but their fruit and produce leaves much to be desired in my mind. Out here in AZ we have Sprout's and that place is my jam

Sprout's is great. Went there when my wife and I visited our son in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale has all the fun things

I do love Aldi too

Twitter me

Maybe it's just me, but I have been very underwhelmed by Aldi the few times I've been in one. It's hard to find stuff and they didn't have half of the things I needed.

We are missing a lot of things here in WV. Like competent education.

Aren't you missing a lot of couches too? Or is that just in Morgantown?

For all of the shortcomings of WV in general, most of us still don't claim Morgantown.

Donezo

I wont take your survey and you'll like it!!

I'm just kidding VTFootball done and done. That was interesting. I freaking love Trader Joes. After leaving one for the first time I leaned over to my girlfriend and asked "Is it possible to have a crush on a grocery store?..."

Done, only issue was the question "Where do you get your news"....no issue with the questions really, but the only 3 responses were facebook, twitter and youtube....I don't get my news from any of those.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

The thought behind that question is that many people get their news from social media. Not necessarily all of it.

Trader Joe's generates customers through word of mouth.

Most people get news from those social media channels at times.

It will help me determine which one they should use to send out messages to their customers.

I adjusted the question so there is I never see news on Social Media checkbox now as well.

What's

Anyone who "gets" their news off Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube is likely not getting news, but they are at least getting that itch scratched, whatever itch it is.

Gotcha, and I wouldn't say that I never see news on social media....I just don't use social media to get news...I think I'm reading too much into it, lol

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Done! Good luck!

Done. If you have the ability to do so at this point, I'd suggest clarifying whether you're asking about a particular Trader Joe's location, or the brand in general, especially as it relates to parking. That's something that's going to vary widely from store to store.

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

I seriously thought Trader Joe's was a furniture store until about three years ago when I actually walked inside of one

I cant imagine the paradigm shift that happened in your mind as you walked in and slowly realized you weren't going to find that lovely end table you've been looking for lol

I was mentally broken as my girlfriend asked if we could stop and get some things for the night and all I could think was how we didn't even live together, let alone need to buy furniture together.

I'm a lurker and rarely comment, but I come back when my Hokie brethren need me. Survey Complete!

Thank you I appreciate it.

I have one issue with my survey right now. I shared it on 2 sporting websites.

Just about everyone, but 10 people that took it so far are female.

Any suggestions on where else I should share it?

I'll have my girlfriend fill it out and send to some other females.

Why the EFF can't we get a trader joes closer than Charlottesville or a Costco closer than Harrisonburg or Winston Salem??? /rant

Why is parking only listed once for the things that are frustrating about the TJs experience?

They always seem to have tiny parking lots

Done! I'm a male so hopefully that helps your data set!

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Took the survey. I second the point made above, I have never found parking or line's being long to be a particular issue at either of TJ's here, but I could see that having very high variance store to store.

The parking requirements for a commercial site are stated in the code for that municipality (usually x spaces per square foot of floor space) , so Trader Joe's can't make their parking lots any smaller than that. They could make them larger than the minimum requirement, but that's just a waste of land that no developer prefers.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Most TJ's I have seen are not stand alone structures, but part of a strip mall/shopping center type setup. So I imagine the only control they have over that parking situation is in their initial search and selection of a location.

Living in Philly the parking is a nightmare.

What's
Important

The TJ's near my house is a standalone building in the parking lot of a shopping center. Very few things make me want to gouge my eyeballs out more than trying to park over there on the weekend.

I think it depends on the situation. The TJs in Charlottesville has a spacious parking lot and stand alone structure (although I hate the strip mall around it). The TJs near me in Chicago has quite possibly the most brutal parking lot I've ever seen but it compensates by being walking distance to the Loop and under an L stop.

Trader Joe's in Falls Church, VA... anytime between 5pm-7pm during the week, and any time after 10AM sunday/saturday... avoid like the plague unless you enjoy pain and agony.

The Nightmare Of Shopping At Trader Joe's In Manhattan

This is what it's like shopping in an inner city Trader Joe's.
As soon as you walk in the store you will be reminded that this is not a game.

.
The line is so long they need a line sherpa to guide you to the end of the line as it weaves through the store like a winding maze.
.

.
The line is so long someone has to hold a "Middle of Line" sign while constantly screaming "This is not the end of the line!"

Try shopping a Chinese market in Flushing, NY. The pictures above are a cake walk.

I got you fam

When in doubt. Nap it out

Done, but I had widely different experiences at the Georgetown TJ and the Warwick, RI TJ. One had 0 parking, was overcrowded and crammed with narrow aisles, the other was in a strip mall, and spacious. Can you guess which was which?

Not trying to make things political, but you may get more responses if your gender had an option to account for those that do not identify with one or the other. #InclusiveVT

IMO: The TJ's "This [Fruit] Walks Into a Bar" cereal bars are the best cereal bars out there. I'm known at my local TJ's because of my regular stock ups of these bars.
