MLB Playoffs

Got the NL Wild Card game tomorrow night at 8pm on TBS. This season has been an absolute roller coaster of emotion for Nats fans and like in years past, we are set up pretty damn well for a run so long as we can keep the bullpen off the mound for as long as possible. Leeeets get it.

Hope to see the Nats vice the Brewers in round 2 as the Brewers seem to be the better term over a 7 game series, Go Dodgers lets get this Monkey off our backs!

Brewers play at the Nationals in the Wild Card Elimination Game. Only one of them advance as the Brewers failed to catch the Cardinals.

Does winning the wild card game count as winning a playoff series? Asking as a desperate DC sports fan.

Using /s is for cowards.

I might have picked a GIF with a different team to mock the Nats' postseason ineptitude.

The Braves are one of the most underachieving playoff teams in baseball history, going back to the 90s.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

1. I'm a die hard Braves fan.

2. We did win the East this year so I think it's more than fair under the circumstances.

3. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. I HAVE LIVED VICARIOUSLY THROUGH THE '95 SEASON FOR 24 YEARS.

4. How many times did the Nats go to the postseason in the 90's? That's what I thought.

5. No more comments please.

Using /s is for cowards.

#3 for me all day long and Dale Murphy is the greatest player to never make it to the HOF (yet).

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

1. That's super for you.

2. Winning the NL East isn't the problem. You've lost your last 8 post-season series, and 10 of your last 11. So a Braves fan mocking the Nats' postseason failures is like the 2nd biggest nerd in school picking on the biggest nerd.

3. Even if you had gone 4-1 instead of 1-4 in the World Series in the 90s, all the wins would have been vicarious. If you don't play in the game, watching sports is by definition vicarious.

4. Not gonna bother with this one.

5. Relax, the Braves have a good team. There's about a 50/50 chance you'll win your 2nd postseason series this century against the Cardinals (who have won 15 postseason series and 2 World Series titles since the Braves won a division series in 2001, just sayin')

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Lol it was just a joke.

Using /s is for cowards.

Butt hurt Nats fan much?

Caps fans are the same way to Pens fans, go out and win a few more Stanley Cups and then we can talk. For the Nats, go out and win anything and then we can talk.

β€œTHE CUP IS GOING NOWHERE MIKEY!!! THEY DID IT SOMEHOW!!”

I don't care one bit about someone making fun of the Nats. They've earned it.

But I can't just sit by and let fans of a laughingstock franchise mock another team. The Braves have lost 8 straight postseason series. That's just freaking awful.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Referring to the Atlanta Braves as a "laughingstock franchise" is a pretty damning indictment of your baseball knowledge.

LOL, before I made my comment on the GIF, I literally didn't realize that Braves fans were so sensitive about their team. And I sure as hell didn't realize they actually consider Atlanta to be a good MLB franchise.

The Braves were remarkably close to being the Buffalo Bills of baseball in the 90s, and repeat after me: They have lost. Eight. Straight. Postseason. Series. That's pretty sad by itself, but making fun of any other team? That makes you a laughingstock.

At least Nats and Dodgers fans embrace their recent failures in the postseason, and can laugh at themselves.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

I, for one, cry myself to sleep whenever I think of the Cardinals (2012) and Cubs (2017).

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Agreed... play the recency game and sure, Braves have sucked in the playoffs. Laughing stock franchise? No... some franchises would kill to have/had the success of the Braves.

Sure their World Series record might suck as well, but lets not act like winning it all is easy... can only be one winner.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

There are 19 current MLB teams that have more World Series titles than Atlanta. Three others also have one win, and 7 teams have never won a World Series.

Of the teams never to win, 3 have been in their current city for less than 25 years: (Colorado, 26, Tampa Bay, 24, Washington 14).

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

This is like when UVA fans try to make fun of us for never winning a national title in football. Except in that scenario, both teams have the same number of championships.

less than 25 years: (Colorado, 26

You can put out all the stats you want.... no one with any baseball knowledge thinks Atlanta is a laughing stock franchise.... except for you

exactly. betcha a dollar that the majority of nats fans would trade their franchise history for the braves'

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

First of all. A majority of Nats fans (assuming the inclusion casual fans which there are a lot of) wouldn't even know much about the Braves in the 90s. As for cognizant Nats fans (a category I include myself in), F--k No. F--k the Braves and their history. Washington has a long baseball history, with many compelling story lines (and one championship). What sucks is the 33 year hiatus, but I guess that's business. Glad the baseball is back in DC and glad the ownership has built a team that has ultra-competitive the past 7 years.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

"franchise history" =/= "Washington has a long baseball history"

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

We never lived in Montreal. So your premise is a fallacy to begin with.

Do fans of the Twins claim the Senators championship? Do the Rangers even think about the Senators?

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

You may have never lived in Montreal, but your franchise did πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Do the Lakers claim championships from Minnesota? Sure do. Do the Dodgers claim them from Brooklyn? Sure do. Just because there aren't that many Nats fans around who remember the Washington Senators doesn't mean that it was the same franchise.

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Franchise history is such a garbage idea. I root for the teams in my city or the school I attended. You'd be hard pressed to find a Nats fan who cares/cared about the Expos. They aren't the Nats just like the Twins/Rangers aren't the Senators. I root for a team, not the Ownership who can move the team. If the Redskins moved and the Patriots came in, I wouldn't be celebrating Tom Brady as my history. I'd still be praising Joe Gibbs and cursing Bruce Allen.

I cannot speak for people in LA but I doubt they care about what happened in Brooklyn, much less Minnesota. Who gives a fuck what the teams claim?

maybe lakers twitter is the outlier

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

My coworker was wearing a Brooklyn Jackie Robinson jersey the other day. They care. Of course, it's probably different when you acquire a historic franchise and keep the same team name. That said, I've never seen a SF Giants fan with a NY Giants jersey, so idk, maybe just an LA thing.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

probably because they're different sports πŸ˜‰

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Ok. Let me get this straight. Because LA was able to land two historic franchises, as a fan of Washington baseball, I'm suppose to also care about the plight of the Expos and based on that plight wish that the Braves moved to DC instead, because I want that franchise history (go Boston! go Milwaukee!).

Thanks for helping me out there. I've been liking the Nationals and Washington baseball, but I'll change my outlook now!

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

we're not even having the same discussion, so i'll just let you be.

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

exactly. betcha a dollar that the majority of nats fans would trade their franchise history for the braves'

I believe we're discussing this. After the previous commenter said this:

There are 19 current MLB teams that have more World Series titles than Atlanta.

And thanks for letting me be me. Couldn't have done it without ya.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

so then it makes even less sense to invoke the pre-Nationals Washington baseball teams πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

If you don't care about the Expos, and if only current teams count, your argument boils down to something like: nationals fans would rather have 14 years of the nats and 33 years of nothing than 47 years of the braves.

With the way DC sports fans worship Joe Gibbs because he made the skins relevant 30ish years ago, I can only imagine how they'd feel about Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz, Chipper and Andruw Jones, and Hank Aaron. Maybe you hate them because you "hate the braves", but if the braves were in DC for the last 50 years, it would be a different story.

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Ok. Let's boil this down. Someone made a stupid comment about the Braves history. We agree on that. The Braves were awesome in the 90s and enviable (but not to a level of switching histories, because who tf would want to switch histories).

Then there's the comment that Nats fans would rather switch to Brave's franchise history, which just seems silly. (Notably that comment expanded from current team to franchise history.) But I'm wondering why would any fanbase trade their history for their rivals? Does anyone here actually wish we had Miami's history in the 80s and 90s? They were hell a lot more successful with the legendary Jimmy Johnson and there after than VT has ever been. But I think we can agree that we'd never want Miami's history because we love VT's history and what Beamer/Vick/etc. means to us.

So, yes. I responded to the comment about how great Washington baseball history actually is, because as DC/Nat's fans, we have more appreciation for the history of sports of our city than of the various franchises that have come into here. And I responded a little harshly saying f--k the Braves (along with the Phillies, Mets, and Marlins -- I'm sure you agree subbing Nats in for Braves).

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

i actually think the nats and the braves are largely irrelevant and don't care about either

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Since it looks like there's a decent chance of a Nationals-Braves NLCS, I would like take a moment and apologize for trolling and calling the Braves a laughingstock. They obviously aren't. I'm fully aware the Braves won like 14 straight NL East titles in a row at one point, and the combo of Maddox, Glavine, Smoltz is probably the best set of starters in MLB history. Along with Chipper Jones, they have some top-tier Hall of Famers.

Also, Hank Aaron played for the Braves (Milwaukee and Atlanta), and he set the one time currently legitimate all-time home run record. A lot of people don't realize that for most of his career, Hank Aaron was a five-tool player who didn't only hit home runs, but hit 120 or more RBIs in 7 seasons (!) and scored more than 100 runs 13 straight years (!!). Hank Aaron is one of my all-time favorite baseball players, on and off the field. To me, Hank Aaron and Lou Gehrig are the most underrated Hall of Famers of all time (Gehrig had 185 RBIs, 163 Runs and 46 Home Runs while batting .341 one season).

I would favor both the Braves and the Nats in their game 5s. The Braves because they are better than the Cards and they are home, and the Nats because Strasburg is pitching. So good luck to both teams and lets have a NL East NLCS!

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

A Braves vs Nats NLCS would be optimal. 1) Because fuck the Dodgers and 2) Because fuck the Dodgers.

I appreciate you saying those things about the Braves. What a lot of people don't realize is that most of us that grew up in the South in the mid 90's are Braves fans. We grew up being able to watch every Braves game on TBS because Ted Turner was a boss and pumped those games into our homes. The start of the Braves NL East domination occured when I was very young and hadn't started school yet so I spent a lot of time at home watching Braves games before I could even spell Braves. I lived in DC for 6 years and tried to give the Nats some of my baseball love but my loyalty to the Braves always won out (That and being called a racist for wearing a Chipper Jones jersey to a Braves vs Nats game in the Nats park kind of turned me off to the vast majority of Nats fans).

The Braves have lost 8 straight postseason series. That's just freaking awful.

More awful than never having won one in 51 seasons of existence?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Butt hurt? Projecting much? The Nats have existed for 14 years (2005). Idgaf about the Expos. We have won the division 4 times since then and a wild card this year. So 4 (and 1 pending) playoff chances with no series wins, shitty no doubt but meh it's been fun after an entire childhood with no baseball.

The Braves haven't won a series since the NL division series in 2001. Since then they are 0-8 (with a one game series loss). Double the amount of playoff loses in only 4 more years. Yikes. 1995 was nearly a lifetime ago. You guys are the Notre Dame of baseball with more annoying fans.

And if you're going to bring in other sports. 28-3 comes to mind among others. How many Super Bowls does Atlanta have? How many NBA titles? Hell, the hockey team failed and left TWICE. I'll take DC over Atlanta's playoff history any day of the week and twice on NFL Sundays.

Double the amount of playoff loses in only 4 more years.

wait, are you saying it's better to not make the playoffs than to go and lose?

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Not at all. I think making the playoffs is awesome. I just find it hilarious and hypocritical for a Barves fan to heckle the Nats about their postseason success or lack thereof.

And expanding that to a DC vs Atlanta sports debate is even worse. They have to be the two most unlucky cities when it comes to sports success, especially in the playoffs. But I still think DC's history is better.

but here you are as a DC fanboy heckling atlanta about their football and basketball teams, gotcha

Considering they've won a grand total of zero playoff series in their 50-year franchise history, I'd say just about any team in baseball is allowed to mock the Nats' postseason ineptitude.

Montreal Expos beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3 games to 2 in the 1981 National League Division Series so only one time in franchise history. It was another 31 seasons without even making the playoffs until the Nats made the playoffs in 2012.

That whole setup was a sham...

I'm hoping to see a Nats-Astros World Series. I'd be happy if either team won.

I don't think I've ever seen a team as good as my hometown 'Stros on paper. I don't know how you could look at their starting pitching and ferocious lineup and not be intimidated. On the other hand, baseball playoffs are a funny thing, and I could realistically see the Yankees, Twins, Astros or Dodgers winning it all.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

I am pulling for a Twins-Nats WS. Ratings will be awful but I get to see both my teams play, and at the rate the Nats bullpen gives up runs the Twins could set another MLB record for most HR hit in a single WS.

Hoping my Yanks, can finally remove our "Astros thorn" from the heel of our foot. What a rivalry it's become. Not looking ahead though, hoping we can do well against the Twins as well. Come on # 28!

N-A-T-S! NATS NATS NATS!

WOOOO!

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

This probably the best Nats team built for the post-season. Not saying they win anything, but this team could be special. I've never seen better chemistry between collection of individuals in Nats uniforms.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Chemistry is great. but the bullpen is historically bad, and will be our demise. Not sure it held up, but as of a month ago (ish) the Nats were on track to have the worst bullpen of any post-season team in MLB history.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

it's not historically bad anymore. For the month September, Nat's bullpen wasn't great at 21st in the league, but serviceable. They'll be able to exploit match-ups all post-season, as long the starter can last 6 innings.

If the Nats can't get 6 innings out of their starters (or games go into extra innings), then the bad bullpen will rear its ugly head. The combination of Hudson, Doolittle, and Rodney should keep things relatively stable. Use Suero, Guerra and Rainey in appropriate situations, and the Nats bullpen will hold up.

Edit: Suero and Guerra aren't on Wild-card roster; they have all 4 starters and 5 relievers on roster for this game. So, there's a good chance a starter may be used in relief today. We'll see. I think timing wise, Strasburg or Corbin areset for an innings work and still pitch game 1 or 2.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Hudson has been a HUGE help in September.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Is it special to win two elimination games down 3-1 beginning of the 8th inning? Yea. This team has that it factor. Hopefully they can ride it to get 8 more wins.

Going to tonight's NL wild card game... drunkenly bought a PNC diamond club ticket before it was confirmed Washington was hosting (clinched Wild card spot though). Maybe I'll scout Braves' possible NLCS foe while sluggin' 15-20 beers

Oh for sure... I usually try to get them (or delta) when they are reasonably priced... 100% worth it as you get 800% return on money lol.... why pay $10-15 dollars on each beer when I can pay $100 more for a premium seat and all you can drink and eat.... and legit food too

Where do you find them reasonably priced?lol the Delta's, while worth it, are a once a year deal on my end. The Diamond Club (basically same amenities) are much easier to swallow face value.

Max needs to calm the fuck down. These situations, he is SO jacked, comes out throwing 98-100 as opposed to his usual 95-97 he ends up throwing it flatter, often times loses the strike zone for a minute, then you end up with having to groove one down the middle...and you give that up. Outside of that and the Michael Taylor Cubs game, it's been rather heartbreaking. Watching Hader throw earlier this year and earlier in the inning, he's so damn tough. 1 for 2 on Sunday's games.....

ATL@STL: This one was an AWESOME (in the literal definition of the word) pitchers' duel through the first 8 innings. 7 total hits (edit: and zero walks!) through 8 innings, IIRC, with the fact that one of the Cardinals' hits was a HR being the difference on the scoreboard. Three two-out runs by the Braves in the top of the ninth decided the game.

Oh, right. Don't know what I was thinking there.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

I've *been* on the fire Davey bandwagon, but I'm about to hop on the fire Rizzo bandwagon.

He over invested in starting pitching, leaving pennies for the bullpen, which has absolutely torpedoed this team's chances.

When Rendon (and maybe Stras?) leave, Rizzo might need to pack his shit too.

The man can't identify young pitching talent (Stras doesn't count - he was a consensus #1 pick) to save his life.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

And it has done so for a longgg time. So disheartening.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding of good and bad when it comes to roster management and in-game coaching.

Rizzo is the whole reason that DC has the fanbase it has now (maybe you included). I think it's insane to think that turning a perennial losing franchise into a perennial contending franchise and suggest that the head person responsible isn't doing a good job. I don't know, I guess that's just my opinion from watching the transition from: Will DC get a team? to getting a team in DC to building up a minor league system to reaching playoff status a year early in 2012 to 5 playoff appearance in 8 years.

I could rant on about Martinez's abilities, but I don't think I'm going to change anyone's mind there. Suffice to say I think he's the best manager the Nats have had ever (which might not being saying much considering the past managers...)

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Davey has managed his pitching staff in the postseason as well as we could possibly hope. He got a little too galaxy-brained in walking the tieing run a few nights ago but other than that no complaints.

Rizzo has nothing to do with whether Rendon stays or goes. Anybody that follows baseball at all knows Rendon is a star. The Learners will decide how much they are willing to spend to keep him. So don't put that on Rizzo.

Also, Rizzo has always been open that he won't sell the farm or break the bank for one run at it in one season. His goal is to keep this team a playoff contender year in and year out. We will never be the team that makes a huge superstar move at the deadline or who pays stupid money to a mid-reliever. The bullpen could be better and it needs to improve this off season but we have had the sustained success that we have because Rizzo has put us in that position.

We will never be the team that makes a huge superstar move at the deadline or who pays stupid money to a mid-reliever.

Let's leave that to the Mets and Phillies. Although the Phillies were fairly quiet at the deadline this year after winning the off season.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Rizzo has nothing to do with whether Rendon stays or goes. Anybody that follows baseball at all knows Rendon is a star.

I mean, that's just not true.

Yes, the Lerners will decide the upper limit when it comes to years/total amount/AAV etc. but it's not like RIzzo isn't involved.

we have had the sustained success that we have because Rizzo has put us in that position.

Yes, but his strategy of over-investing in starting pitchers and picking up relievers off the junk pile is the Achilles heel of this team and will ultimately be its undoing.

Rizzo knows how much Anthony is worth. He will communicate that with the Learners, just as I'm sure he did with Harper. That is all he can do; advise the Learners what he feels Anthony is worth and whether Boras is asking for too much. He can't make the Leaners take an offer though. And he can't force them to cut the deferred money crap.

The bullpen is an issue. I'll admit that. Impossible to argue otherwise. But Trea Turner is here because of Rizzo. Soto and Robles are here because of Rizzo. Adams, Kendrick, Dozier, here because of Rizzo.

It's easy to look at the bullpen and be critical. But the Washington Nationals are a constant contender because of Rizzo more so than anyone else.

Dansby Swanson cemented himself as a legend. I cannot believe they intentional walked so they could pitch to him. He made them pay for that. Never doubt the most beautiful man in baseball.

Good pitching will often beat out great hitters, you guys have an incredible lineup, but our bullpen depth is surely an escape route for our starters every single game. The fact that our starters barely go 5 is infuriating, and is the one reason I don't feel confident about beating the Astros. That 3 headed monster of Verlander, Cole, and Zack, is deadly. I'm keeping my expectations low even if we do sweep.

Rocco's had an awesome season, and however this plays out, you guys should feel great about where things are headed.

On a side note, WHAT a weekend for sports for me, my Hokies beat Miami, Liverpool eek out a win against LC, Yankees go up 2-0, Manchester United lose and are 2 points above relegation, and most importantly Man City lose. The only smudge on this weekend is my guy Danny Dimes falling short for the first time for my Giants. I'm on cloud 9 this Monday morning.

I don't really care who is in the World Series....

As long as it's neither the Nationals nor the Yankees.

You just jinxed yourself into a Nats v. Yanks WS

Braves/Dodgers winner vs. Yankees/Houston winner

Houston winning would upset me the least, so go 'stros.

Max was vintage Max tonight.

Never have rooted for a UVA player as much as Zimmerman, that guy is truly Mr. Washington National. I hope they can pull it off in LA, but we shall see, I am so used to Nats playoff disappointment.

Wasn't trying to ruffle your feathers LOL, as much as I'm hyped that we are the only team sitting back watching everyone else bludgeon each other.

Thoroughly enjoyable, to see the Rays and Astros beat each other to a pulp. If my math serves me correct, Verlander and Cole won't be available for Game 1 of the ALCS if the Stros win. And if the Rays win, they're arms are going to be worn down, not to mention we get home field advantage. Hopeful Game 5 goes into extras, any advantage we can get I'll take it, because both teams are going to be extremely difficult to beat. Let's go Yanks!

This sucks. Strasburg looked tentative from the first pitch. C'mon nats

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Strasburg isn't the Nats' problem. Zero runs is the problem. That's always their problem.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Well, Strasburg was a big reason for those 3 runs. He's settling in now. Sucks to get nothing in the 5th there with 2 on. And really, their recurring problem TBF is relief pitching. Going to need that tonight if we can get a few damn runs in.

This entire post really drives home how regional baseball has become.

Numbers are declining league wide because it's not worth watching if your specific team isn't in the mix.

Nats vs Cardinals? Who cares (although this does feel like a classic Cardinals are nothing special but will win the WS type of season)

I do like seeing the Dodgers and the Braves fail though. For as much shit as Nats fans talk, you would think this wasn't their first post season series win, and yet here we are

If this post seems out of nowhere with demise of baseball and all that, the context you're missing is that this is a very salty Phillies fan.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

baseball's just not that important when the Phillies woefully underperform and Ben Simmons makes a three in a preseason game

Really happy for the Nationals organization as whole but especially Zim and Davey. Despite being a disgusting Wahoo, Zim has been a pro and he deserved this. Davey had people calling for his job for a year and made some really good calls with the pitching usage so far.

DC sports is agony for the most part, but it has its moments.

Shit, he had people calling for his head at the all star break. I can't say I was one of them, but I was certainly teetering on it.

Maybe the same will happen for Fuente as it is for Davey

That Atlanta Braves have not won a postseason series, nor wild card game, since 2001. Four years before the Washington Nationals came to the Nation's Capital.

Atlanta sports have been cursed ever since the 1996 Olympics.

I blame Eric Rudolph

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

It's official, we're getting the National League underdogs on one side and the juggernauts of the American League on the other.

It's not quite the perfect glamour matchup that would have been Yankees/Astros vs the Dodgers, but the World Series is guaranteed to be compelling.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Stros are going to be tough! Cole looks like a monster this postseason so far. But as a Yankees fan, I gotta believe that we can do the unthinkable, the unimaginable; I gotta believe we can get after this pitching staff with good timely disciplined hitting. It will be a dog fight, can't wait for Saturday!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Sir, your team won 103 games this year. And you're the New York Yankees.

You don't get to be the underdog. :)

But I do appreciate the modesty and it should be a great series.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

I actually believe we're the underdog, yeah we have the 3rd highest payroll, but the Stros have the 7th. And a a good amount of our payroll is tied up into players like Ellsbury that we're paying for not playing at all (our fault). Houston has more wins than us this season, a more recent championship, and 3 straight ALCS appearances. So even though we are the Yankees, it's safe to say, we don't pay for the best players anymore, I would say we are constructed off of savvy trades, and restoring guys who were left on a trash heap. So to you we might not be underdogs, but to me, we are (bias).

Doolittle is getting his swagger back for the Nats. Huge game for Sanchez and Doolittle, save those starters who sub in for the pen.

Hey Nats Fam, we up 2-0 heading back to DC! Boohyah!

Where's the beef?

Up 2-0 having given up 1 run on four hits over the course of those two games. It's been amazing work by Sanchez and Scherzer but if the Cards hope to get back in this they need to hit.

The Nats are going to need to score more runs as well. Winning these low scoring games doesn't feel sustainable.

Where's the beef?

1 down, whew

Tough loss, head back to NY, and hopefully get the crowd behind us to push us over the top. Last night's game was winnable, that's the part that will be lodged in my brain till Tuesday's game. Smh.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

This series is definitely two juggernauts going head to head. The Astros were going to be in deep sh*t if they lost last night, and they have to win at least one of the next two in NY.

As a Houston fan, I'm praying that Cole can continue his magic and the 'Stros can steal one in NY and head back to Houston 2-2.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Next 3 are in NY.

Edit: Definitely a great game, no shade to Nats/Cards, but I feel like this is the World Series for sure. One bad pitch by Ottavino, changed it all. Wanted that game badly! Onto NY we go, hopefully Game 4 will be a tipping point in showing who's really likely to win this series. Cole is going to be tough! Sucks that he isn't a Yankee, when he had so many chances of being one. Onto Game 3.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

ALCS = World Series. I guess beating the Dodgers wasn't enough....

Where's the beef?

The Nats beat the Dodgers are are up 3-0 on the Cards. You may want to slow your role a little bit.

You may want to slow your role a little bit.

What role is that? The role of Yankee-homer?

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Be a homer all you want. Nats have the best record in baseball since May 24. That's not a hot streak. That's a good baseball team.

Whoever wins the ALCS will be favored over either the Nats or Cards but it's not a forgone conclusion.

Slow your roll, the Nats are a really good baseball team right now. I was just commenting on the typo of "slow your roll".

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Thanks for the correction, I wasn't sure when I typed that. That makes Game 3 with Cole basically a must-win for the Astros.

I'm a Nats fan also, and it's baseball so anything can happen. But I agree with you that the Yankees-Astros series feels like the varsity game. I'd be pretty surprised if the winner of this series doesn't go on to win the World Series.

Edit: Meant to be a reply to 2_Hokie_5

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

Well, at least we broke up the no-hitter early.

We may finally have something that has less fans than the uva spring game: St Louis runs in the NLCS.

Go Nats!

"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not yet completely sure about the universe.” -Einstein

Ouch.

But you're not lying.

I also think it's safe to say that the Marcell Ozuna era is over in STL. Cold bat, terrible in the field.

Anyway, the Nats are tough to root against. I'll be pulling for y'all moving forward. I do acknowledge that this series isn't over and what not, but my guess is this isn't the team to make an epic comeback.

LET'S. GOOOO.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

The Cardinals' goals this year were 1.) make the playoffs and 2.) shit on the Cubs. By those standards this season was a rousing success.

Go Nats. I hope y'all win it!

Yanks bats going cold, starting to revert back to the 2017 Yanks, where they wait for the long ball instead of manufacturing runs like they did during the year. Starting to get concerned. On to game 4.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I feel like you might be overthinking it.

They just ran into Gerrit Cole, who hasn't lost a start since May 22.

It's still anybody's series.

The doll's trying to kill me and the toaster's been laughing at me.

I disagree, we made Cole look human, got 9 men on base, but didn't push the issue. Stros did a hit and run, even when they were up by 2. The station to station BS has to stop else we'll lose this series. Gardy has to drop a bunt with two men on and one out early on in the game. We have to get aggressive, I think we can win this series but we have to rely on more than the long ball. RISP fails won't get it done in this series.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I'm not saying the Nats will hold off the Cards at 7-0 in the 3rd inning of Game 4, but if they do sweep, I'd rather the Nats face the Yanks than that daunting Astros pitching staff. Nats starting pitching is playing incredible. Can only hope their bats and the starters can continue this into the WS.

Also, the Stros have the best uniforms in baseball.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

9 outs away from the World Series. Let's go bullpen, let's go NATS!!!

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Nats are leagues ahead of the Cards. This was a mismatch from the jump. Happy for the city of DC, hopeful my Yanks can get there to meet them, wouldn't be mad if they won it all though. (Against the Steps that is...)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

Cards bats have been ice cold and the Nats improved relieving and getting over that playoff hump have lit the fire in them. It was a pretty steep challenge for the cards with that said, but we still gotta close em out.

Best of luck to your Yanks. I'll be pulling for them. Like that WS matchup.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Where's the beef?

Well they definitely look like they're having fun.

I've not been a baseball fan since I was very young, and in NOVA the local team was the O's at the time. I had already gone off to college by time the Natinals were invented.

But with the Caps being recent winners and the Skins being terrible and the Wizards being the Wizards and United not being championship caliber, I'll fairweather the heck out of the World Series!

So happy. So, sooo damn happy. Just need to find me a benefactor who wants me to join them for a WS game now. Wish me luck!

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Incredible... My grandfather's ashes are under the third cherry tree on the right as you come into the outfield entrance of Nats Park. He is smiling somewhere. I will enjoy this moment and be rocking my VT colored Nats hat this weekend!

Only downside to this is teams that sweep the NLCS are 1-6 historically. Yikes!

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

Yea. the last 5 teams to sweep an LCS have lost in the WS. I'm worried, but hopefully they'll use that history to reestablish themselves as the underdog in the series.

So much for the Nats can't win a playoff series BS. This team is so fun to watch and the camaraderie is obvious. Hopefully they can buck one more trend of LCS sweeps losing the WS and win it all.

Way to go, Nats! Definitely peaking at the right time.

This Braves fan hopes y'all take it to the AL. Gotta get that trophy back on over to the Senior Circuit!

And Fuck the DH!

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

The Nats bench is so deep that DH won't be an issue this WS for the NL team. Cabrera can play second and move to Kendrick DH. Or Matt Adams can DH against righties. Hell, even platoon involving the 4 of the outfielders, Soto, Eaton, Robles, Parra, and MAT would work.

But I agree. I think baseball is more fun and way more interesting strategically with pitchers hitting.
