The men play Florida State(#5/6) today at 4PM in Cassell Coliseum. The game is on ACC Network. This is a White-Out game. FSU is a very good team; they are 17-3 overall and 7-2 in ACC. Their losses were at Pitt to start the season and at UVA on Jan 28. They also lost at Indiana on Dec 3. They have two OT wins at Purdue and at Miami. And they beat #6 Louisville at Louisville.
The Hokies will have a worse than usual height disadvantage. Their starting five are 6'7, 6'4, 6'5, 6'8, 6'9. And they have two 7 footers who each play about 8 minutes per game. In addition to being tall, they also shoot the three ball well. Coaching this game will challenge Mike Young; there are no good match ups.
As I said above, they are a good shooting team, shooting 44% overall and 40% from three. Interestingly, they have been out rebounded in ACC play by about 3 per game. I don't see that happening today. They average 13 assists and 13 turnovers per game. But they have only allowed 11 assists while causing 17 turnovers. Tech will have to be very careful with the ball today. FSU is not a particularly high scoring team, only averaging 71 points per game; buy they have only allowed 65.
I have been wrong about so many of these game, I hesitate to make a guess. But I don't see a win for Tech in the cards for today unless something remarkable happens. We will need to make a lot of three's and limit offensive rebounds for FSU to have any chance.
