OT: Happy National Pie Day, TKP!

Though I am doing Whole30 this month, and therefore will have to wait to indulge in pie until sometime in February.

Nonetheless, enjoy the day celebrating one of life's sweet pleasures!

I am sorry, whoever is backing this needs to surrender to the nerds and acknowledge that March 14 is the only Pie Day. Celebrate one with the other.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Seasonal Brew means High ABV for football season and standard the rest of the year.

You can never have too many days to celebrate all things pie

I concur and by pure happenstance there will be homemade chicken pot pie for dinner. Pie's superiority knows no bounds!

I applaud your happenstance

March 14 is the only Pie Day.

In Europe, July 22nd is indeed a valid pie day. And anywhere that puts day before month in their dates

It not being March 14th is just a damn shame

Fake news

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

I only recognize the Pi(e) Day on March 14th. However, I'll eat pie today regardless.

I will never complain about there being two pie days

That means pie day has come full circle.

Wait, what?

For that, you get a leg AND bacon...

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

That's Tau Day.

When I finally learn (right, right?) to post pictures, I'll show you my puppy Pie. She makes most pies look average, in my opinion, but she wholly endorses as many Pie days as can fit in a calendar year. I heartily agree.

Last Sunday was National Appreciate a Squirrel Day (I know, WHY?), therefore:

OK, now that's pretty funny.

It's the nuts.

What a colossal waste of pie.

I'll compromise with 3/14 and eat cheesecake today.

It has crust and filling. It's a pie. Now I'm riled up!

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

Cheesecake is cake. It's not called cheese pie.

You're wrong. Cheesecake doesn't have the ingredients in a cake, I don't care what the name says.

I have some strong emotions to respond to this. I'll simply say that no one calls a mousse cake a pie. Which is basically, cheesecake.

TKPhi Damn Proud

Naming conventions and common sense classification don't always align.

From Wikipedia: "Modern cheesecake is not usually classified as a cake, despite the name. People who classify it as a torte point to the presence of many eggs, which are the sole source of leavening, as a key factor. For others, the overall structure, with the separate crust, the soft filling, and the absence of flour, is compelling evidence that it is a custard pie. Other sources identify it as a flan or tart."

Cheesecake is a custard pie, one of the highest forms of pie, and I'll die on this hill.

(Please don't get offended. I hadn't had my weekly pointless online hyperbolic argument yet, and this opportunity presented itself...)

I agree with your assessment that cheesecake is pie's cool cousin. It is usually cooked in a pie pan with a crust (although I prefer the spring form pan). Anything really that has a bottom crust and a filling can be a pie (ie pizza pie and pot pie). This is why pie is superior to a sponge with creamed sugar on top.

Whatever. It was one bad year.

Agreed on all points, especially the superiority of the springform pan.

Oh I agree with you.

  1. Pie is awesome.
  2. Cheese is the worst.
  3. Top Gun is even worse. Ever.

You' are damn right.

Since I don't know what you sound like, wow he sure did a spot on impersonation. Sounded Just like you!

Actually, having spent a number of hours with said gentleman, I can say that his use of a curse word in the above post almost makes me wonder if it was, indeed, French at all. He never drinks, has actually eaten cheese, and seldom curses. The Top Gun thing...well, who knows?

As an aside, and not just joking, we need to get French to tell all the story of his long hatred/aversion of cheese. It's amazing what Arby's can do to ruin a perfectly good young man.

Always good times. I'd say Fish has heard at least three different versions of all my stories at this point.

The funny thing, Arby's killed me on cheese, but didn't kill me on Arby's. Although it is far inferior to a real pit beef sandwich.

I also ate some pizza with cheese into my 20s. Dominos and Little Caesar's though were always on the gag list. Now, I am exclusively a no cheese pizza advocate.

It has always been a pleasure to spend time with you. As for your stories, you have as many as I do and by the time we cycle and then recycle them, I'll be lying with the other dust on the bottom of some water somewhere, depending on my wife's decision on the ashes. I feel sorry for 3rdGen about stories. He doesn't say a lot and I am constantly filling the air with my old man bloviation. I would be willing to bet that he's heard half of what I'll say when next he's trapped in a boat with me, but I just can't remember what I've said last week, much last two months ago.
Sigh...old age baby.

If you took Bill Clinton, and added the occasional "ummm" and "Top Gun is the worst" you would have my voice. I have a face made for radio and a voice made for newspaper.

1. I like pie as well as cake. I'm not too picky, but fruitcake goes to the trash.

2. I am currently eating grilled cheese sandwich because I enjoy cheese, but hard pass at blue cheese because...yuk.

3. Top Gun is a guilty pleasure of mine. Sure, it's over-the-top cheesy movie, and the storyline is ho-hum, but it's the freaking F-14 Tomcat, man!

“Who is this Fuentes person that you speak about?” -McHokie540

but hard pass at blue cheese because...yuk i'm weak.

there you go

If you want to eat mold, go for it. That is the only cheese I will not eat.

Then what do you eat with chicken wings?

On second thought, I'm not sure I want to know.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

If you are asking about regular chicken wings, Honey BBQ is my go-to. If you are asking me about Buffalo chicken wings, I will pass as it is nasty.

ESPN. The coverage is excellent, you'd be surprised at how much you can pick up.

He's not wrong. Maybe Top Gun slaps, if only in another universe.

I grew up outside Baltimore. I did not know this was not a standard sammich outside Maryland.

I make mine with bottom round now as, in Roanoke, they have no clue as to what I'm talking about.

One day my brother asked me to show up at his house early in the morning, he needed help with something.

He gave me a pile of cinder blocks, 2 long stainless steel bars and 2 full bottom rounds, salt, pepper, a cooler of beer and some seasoned wood and told me 50 people were going to be here later, make pit beef for sammiches.
It was his surprise wedding.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Pie Day is 14 March. Period. Full stop.
