OT: UFC 251

Well Fight Island became a reality........in Abu Dhabi. I honestly kind of like watching fights without an audience, it's pretty cool to hear every punch, kick and takedown. Overall I thought it was a pretty good card.

  1. Ribas/ Van Zant was always gonna be a huge mismatch, I also became a fan of Ribas through her interviews. that whole sequence of hip toss -> back take -> armbar was super slick!
  2. Namajunas/ Andrade was a great scrap too, thought Rose won 2-1
  3. Aldo / Yan: I was screaming at my tv for the ref to stop this fight. IMO Aldo took unneeded punishment for 2 minutes longer than he should've (maybe I'm exaggerating the 2 minutes thing). He was done, sad to see that happen to a legend of the sport, but I thought it was a good back and forth fight until the end. This really highlights a problem in MMA thats been around for a while but I feel like we've seen more if it in the last few months. Corners refuse to throw in the towel, and refs are super inconsistent with stoppages, and ultimately it's the fighters who pay the price. I get these guys want to go out on their shields, but its tough to watch.
  4. Holloway/Volkanovski: I thought Holloway won, it was a close fight. But the rounds Holloway won were way more decisive than the rounds Volkanovski won. Highlights another problem in MMA the 10-9 scoring system.
  5. Usman/Masvidal: Not an exciting fight, but what are you gonna do, this is what Usman does to most of his opponents

The KOs on the prelims by Davey Grant and the dude from the Czech Republic (Jiri sp?) were pretty nasty too as was Makwan Amirkhani's anaconda choke.

yea, his fighting style was....interesting but man that KO was brutal, and it came against a former title challenger

I enjoy Paige Van Zant as much as the next dude, but when are they finally gonna give up on her?

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

It's time for her to go to WWE.

Definitely. I'm about 90% sure she could kick my ass, but I'm not sure I've ever seen her win a fight in the UFC. Then putting her on a main card? They're desperate for her to work out.

Her record's 5-4 in the UFC, but I feel like the 4 losses were all pretty one sided. Her wins were all finishes, and she's been in some good scraps, but any time she fights someone in the top 20, it's a huge mismatch. I don't know how true this is, but plenty of people on reddit are saying she doesn't train MMA much in the off season, opting for crossfit type work outs instead? To be fair though, this is what the UFC does with a lot of fighters who have a lot of unwaranted hype around them, - Sage Northcutt, Mickey Gall, hell CM Punk. Personally in the women's division, the UFC should be pushing girls like Ribas, Alexa Grasso and Tatiana Suarez more. Suarez might be hurt though, she fights pretty sporadically I think

In the post fight press conference, Dana was asked a question about her future and he said that she should test free agency, so she's likely gonna get a better offer from ONE or Bellator or someone

Northcutt is a great comparison. Has the All-American look and skillset but just can't quite put it all together.

It's fight night again😎
