I'm in the process of upgrading the content management system (CMS) that runs the site. I hope to have this done by sometime in the summer so we can all test the heck out of it before the season begins. As part of the update I need to recode the current theme, and come up with a new mobile design. If anyone wants to get creative and redesign the current layout, come up with a mobile one, or try their hand at making a new banner I'd be interested in potentially using it. I can't pay for any work done, but I can credit you on the about section of the site and say nice things if you need a reference. I'm not guaranteeing I'll use anything anyone comes up with either.
Turkey legs, they're a delicious, sobering, slab of meat on a stick, and they're now our karma currency. Before today, turkey legs were simply a cumulative total of a users activity on the site. You got one when you left a comment, 10 if you wrote a blog post, 5 if you started a forum topic. They didn't do anything. Now they do.
Since The Key Play.com launched on March 14, 2010 the site has served up 1,098,482 pageviews. There have been 1,158 posts (stories, blog posts, forum topics, etc...). 974 readers have registered for accounts, 223 accounts have been active on the site in the last 30 days. Readers have left 7,551 comments.
Two-thousand-eleven was the second full season we covered, and it was our biggest yet.
Hopefully, everyone is enjoying a little rest, relaxation, time with their family and their favorite bottle of brown. Unless something absolutely unexpected happens, like one of our players committing [INSERT SILLY CRIME HERE] or the Frankinator retiring from his post to peruse his lifelong dream of being a marshall at Pinehurst, we won't have anything new for you until Monday. Until then, if you got something on your mind, drop it in the forums or comments.
Of course the original is from Awkward Family Photos.
"Brian, leave Shane's Let's Rock Elmo alone, go play with your Hot Wheel Wall Tracks."
"But... Dad, it's broken. The car never get's up the loop."
"Don't do anything fancy now... Bud, how's dinner coming?"
Merry Christmas Everyone!
For the better part of the next two weeks I'll be out of town.
That's a wedding cake topper. Yes, it's mine. Yes, it's awesome.
But fret not, you won't have to go cold turkey because there'll still be new posts around these parts. BeerControlOffense is working on something special for everyone, and I wrote a couple of posts last week that are scheduled to be published while I'm away. Everyone else is invited to contribute their thoughts too. All you need to is register an account to comment, post in the forums and write blog posts. The site has been updated with a WYSIWYG editor, so now you don't have to worry about HTML formatting when writing blog posts. I'll be keeping an eye out for any user contributions to bump to the frontpage.
Thank you to everyone who spends their time here, you make TKP what it is.
This is a little late, but yesterday we turned one.
I think over the past year The Key Play accomplished everything it initially set out to do, and more.
- Provide an in depth (un)-biased analysis of Hokie Football.
- Make jokes, mostly at our own expense.
- Overreact to every single Bryan Stinespring decision.
- Overload you with statistics.
- Have fun.
- Needle UVA.
- Breakdown film.
When I launched the site earlier in March I had no idea what type of response to expect from it. I just knew I loved the Hokies and I wanted to create a place where myself and others could discuss the team rationally, toss around some numbers and have fun. The positive feedback was more than I expected. As the site continues to grow I want to enable more community features and make them easier to use. Up until now, you've been able to comment and start discussions in the forum. Now you can blog. Under your user menu on the left sidebar just click "Blog Entry" underneath "Create content" and, boom, you have the power to publish. This is the first in a series of changes coming your way.
If you have any suggestions or feedback on ways we can improve or features you would like to see please let us know.
With all of that said, thank you for your support, welcome to The Key Play 2.0, and Go Hokies!
The crazy 2010 season has left us no time to sweep around our own porch. Things are now a little more relaxed with the bye week. So let's take care of some outstanding items.

Hello, I'm Eric (@BeerControl) and as Joe noted in a previous post, I'm the newest writer for the TKP. This is my 4th try to write this post. I've had more stops and starts than UVa football has had intentions to become relevant. Anyways, how best to introduce me to you... Oh I know, a question and answer session with myself.
Good morning, actually it's a fantastic morning. The first Monday of August. The season is right around the corner and as promised positive things are happening here. This is version 2.0 of The Key Play. Briefly:
Thanks VTjawo, magduffs
