Wow, Dayton Daily News. Wow. pic.twitter.com/6BaGM1s1ab— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) March 21, 2014
Ohio State avoids scheduling the in-state hoops schools, or so it seems.
Ohio State has played Xavier only four times, winning three. The loss was in the first round of the 1984 NIT. The only game anyone remembers today was the overtime classic in the round of 32 in the 2007 NCAAs.
Ohio State has not played Dayton in the regular season since 1988. The schools played four straight times in the '80s, splitting the games. Since then, the only meeting was in Columbus in 2008, on OSU's way to the NIT title.
If you're keeping score, that means OSU plays the three other top programs in the state either when it has to by the luck of a tournament draw (NCAA, NIT) or when OSU is loaded and they're not (Cincinnati, 2006).
I wonder if that overly trollish newspaper cover will provoke some more state of Ohio matchups.
