President Sands just sent out an email saying that
This year several major events will be held on campus including a nationally televised football game at 8 p.m...I am cancelling all classes on Labor Day, September 7
At this point I'm not sure if i could love Sandsman anymore than I already do.

wow. unprecedented as far as I know. This guy, I love.
He went on to say in the email that he found it strange that VT held classes on labor day to begin with. So this might be the start of a trend of no classes on labor day and he's using the Ohio State game as a starting platform
he wants lane rocking!!!!
next step-- Live Enter Sandman -> GET ER DONE
College Gameday would be sick but won't happen due to game being on Monday
They came on a Sunday for the Lightning Game. Why not a Monday?
This is true.. however I am hearing rumblings that Texas vs ND could get gameday ..
Wisconsin vs Bama at Jerry World Texas <-- most likely scenario... :(
The Texas vs ND game is at ND and being broadcast by NBC, so it is highly unlikely that Gameday goes there. I think you are right with the Wisky/Bama pick in Jerry's World, although a neutral site doesn't exactly provide the best Gameday atmosphere.
GameDay has reached out to VT, and although nothing's finalized right now, it is looking like it's gonna be in Dallas. However, VT is definitely pushing hard reminding ESPN how much they've enjoyed being in Blacksburg in the past as opposed to some neutral site game.
Don't want to be that guy, but source?
A meeting including donors who threw around the phrase, "I'll pay for the busses. I don't care."
Snap
My thoughts exactly.
Crazy stat I saw today--> 6 of the last 7 gameday's have been at neutral sites.
2014- FSU vs OK state at Jerry World
2013- Georgia at Clemson
2012- Michigan vs Bama at Jerry World
2011- LSU vs Oregon at Jerry World
2010- LSU vs UNC at Georgia Dome , Chick Fil a kickoff game
2009- Bama vs VT at Georgia Dome , Chick Fil a kickoff game
2008 - Bama vs Clemson at Georgia Dome , Chick Fil a kickoff game
My guess is it's Jerry's World again
That 2009 game gives me the sads (my avi was from our tailgate there)
That 2010 kickoff game makes me laugh at how Marvin Austin defiantly showed up to watch from the stands.
Could this mean what I think it means? Metallica?
If that happens, I might have to name my firstborn Timothy... regardless of gender
Timothy for a boy, Sandy for a girl?
Timothea
How great would it be if he said "several unannounced major events" but in reality he was like "lol tailgating"
There is a concert on Sunday, brad paisley!
Why him and why at Tech? Rumor has it Brad wanted to do this but since he's a big West Virginia fan, I'm wondering why??
There are gonna be some
hungoverstill drunk kids in class Tuesday.I was about to say he should cancel classes the day after Labor Day instead
The teachers will do that. They'll be too hungover as well.
Exactly what I was thinking. I will be one of those students hungover on Tuesday, but let's be honest...I wasn't planning on making it to class on Tuesday anyway.
Doesn't really change anything. We were going to be like that whether we had class the day before or not. Especially if I end up running down main street again high fiving people in cars.
Metallica concert on the Drillfield starting at 4?
#thiswouldbethegreatestthingever
Can't wait to get all lubed up for this one. Giggity.
anOSU may be the one that needs to "lube up" if you catch my drift
bazinga
I remember in 2003, the day of the Miami game (7:30 kick).
My friends had a townhouse right on the other side of Stadium Woods, so that was our tailgating spot because we could maximize time, walk the path about 15 minutes before gametime, and then come home and keep the party going immediately.
I remember him calling me up at like 8AM that morning and all he said was "Kegs tapped". God that was a great great day.
This Labor Day...well it has potential to be huge.
haha that's what she said!
Tailgated in the same general area for the Spring game this year...they
had a mechanical bull setup. Well done to those guys!!!
Don't touch the trees though!
That's where I'm living next year. Tailgating is gonna be insane.
Houston St. for me. I'm excited.
Centre Street.
Hopefully you aren't living in the complex where homeless people live in the laundry room in the crawl space.
Washer/dryer in the apartment!
Was it called the crackhouse?
My first year was '05, but my sister went down in 2003. The first party I ever went to at VT was in the crackhouse. I was a Junior in high school and in way over my head. The sketchiest/best first VT experience ever.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, take your pick) the crack house was demolished this year and replaced with a nice little two-story place.
RIP The Crackhouse
I know this forum is 2 years old, but my husband has been bugging me about the "crackhouse." What was the address of this place? Also, does anyone remember if it had kegs holding up the porch - structural kegs?
Who remembers the JOOP house? It has also been demolished, but it was right along Green Street near the end where it runs into the trail? Almost as sketchy as the crackhouse.
I planned on skipping classes anyway but I will still say it... I LOVE YOU TIM SANDS!
Heard through the grapevine - aka #sources -- that Brad Paisley is coming to Blacksburg that weekend but is supposed to perform Sunday.
I also saw some tweets awhile ago with him being in town for the game ect ect!
I thought he was a West Virginny guy?
An athletic department employee may or may not have mentioned that he's contractually obligated to not mention WVU.
You and your #sources!
Fun story: according to the same #Sources, Oliver Luck (Father of QB Andrew, former WVU AD and current #2 at the NCAA) was considering coming to the OSU game, but when he was told about this concert, he immediately said, "I'm coming to the OSU game."
Ask him to have another son and make him commit to VT at birth
Scot Loeffler would handle his recruiting...
WHERE IS THIS EMAIL I DON'T HAVE IT I DON'T BELIEVE YOU BEN NEEDS PROOF. Not that I would be going to class anyways.
Finally- some time to really get your arms around those syllabi.
The hype train for September 7th just went to 11
Spinal Tap Amps

Marshall actually one-upped themselves in the 90s and came out with one that went to 20. That's a whole lot of awesome to handle.
But can you turn up the soundness or the beats?
So I looked it up... Metallica has Tour Dates in England ending on August 30th and their next venue is in Canada on September 14th....
There seems to be a weekend missing on there.... hmmmmm
Not to disappoint you, but check the #Sources above.
You got something against a double feature?
I mean, I wouldn't say no.
You want Sources... I give you sources....
As they say in London, Mind the Gap (in the schedule)

8-30 to 9-14 hmm also seeing rumors that there will be a Brad Paisley concert.. or is he coming to be a guest picker for College Gameday?? He did WVU and I would think College Gameday would be able to find another VT rep like maybe David Wilson??
...or Bruce Smith.
Seth Greenberg? Hota Kotb?
Yup, confirmed by Sandsman himself.

...meant to reply to Alum
Well I'm green with envy. Can I be a student again this fall? Just for the first couple weeks?
This doesn't help me and my Tuesday/Thursday class schedule this fall, but that doesn't mean I don't love it.
Tim Sands is like...
Is there going to be a TKP tailgate?
wow--for all the years i've attended VT, i've never had Labor Day off. glad somebody recognized the "importance" of this holiday!
ElevenWarriors.com responds to news
a ton of troll comments for sure.. the best one being
I personally find all the ones calling our stadium "small", hilarious. They have no idea how loud it will be that night.
That's going to be the best part. Bring your earplugs.
Its only a small population, but to them our stadium will be fine but they are used to going to Penn State and Mich so there's no way it can match that noise and intensity. Also their D is going to be greatest thing ever and we wont score because we arent Oregon.
I find it hilarious that they think places like Michigan really gets that loud. Lane is built to intentionally contain noise, and when it's rocking, it's one of the loudest venues in all of football. Places like Michigan... Yeah they're big, but most of the noise is lost because they built the stadium out with a shallow incline and not up with a steep incline like Lane. If we ever enclosed the North End Zone like we did on the South, Lane would essentially become the CenturyLink Field of college football.
I tried to explain that but eventually ran out of time and haven't posted over there in a bit. I probably wouldn't be different if the roles were reversed but there is a pervasive sense that they will pick up where they left off last season and we will do the same. Their D will be better but so will our O (which still put up 28 on them last year).
NO! Don't tell em. Let it be a surprise
I've been curious about the new scoreboard, it doesn't seal off North but it closes off a lot more space, I wonder if it will make a difference? Marginally perhaps, but who knows
I am trying my hardest to convince everyone to take the Hokies and Lane Stadium seriously. I've been to one game at Michigan Stadium and I was unimpressed in every conceivable way.
It's really telling that people don't take seriously a team they didn't take seriously last year, and that beat them.
Who's winning the SEC east? Not Mizzou, that would just be crazy!
Remember last year when our fans were louder than theirs, IN THE HORSESHOE
Could clearly hear "Hokies" on TV.
Haha just like we did to them!!
They WHAT!?!? Why those....

I just went through that thread again, just to gauge their reactions... I found this gem
haha 20k OSU fans wow I'd go closer to maybe 5k at most
Top end 7,500, there are alot of them and they are willing to spend money.
They seem to think they will all get into the stadium too. There may be a lot of them in Blacksburg, but I guarantee most won't get tickets
The must think it's FedEx Field, or something. I'm sure they'll sell out their allotment of visitor tickets and request more, but then they'll just have to purchase from people who are just out to make some money from selling their tickets.
I really hope there are only a few who would be willing to sell to Ohio State people.
Those comments. l o l.
I hope we smack them in the face again. I (student) went to the game last year and honestly didn't enjoy the experience other than the part where we won.
I expected some back and forth but I ran into way too many seriously rude and over the top fans (mostly students).
So I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere but will single game tickets through Tech ever go on sale for this game? Or did that happen already? Thought they would have by now, but the only option is still to buy season tickets, and the secondary market for them is still ridiculous.
VT says they don't anticipate there being any single-game tickets available for this game.
I know they say that but they're also still selling season tickets so clearly the game isn't sold out yet. It's pretty clear they're trying to up their season ticket sales by forcing you to buy them to get into the OSU game. You'd think at some point if it doesn't look like they're going to sell out the season tickets, they'd cave and put some single-game (even if only a limited number) on sale.
I expect that when season tickets ship in early August, if there are still tickets available, they will be released to the public.
I checked an email I got from the ticket office. They say that whatever single-game tickets are available, they will be made available first to Hokie Club members and season ticket holders sometime in late July. So if there are any at all for OSU, that's when we should hear something. I doubt very seriously if any will be available to the general public, though.
If they are, they will likely be part of 3-game mini-plans or something similar. Point is: don't bank on there being single-game tickets available. I don't have access to the specific numbers, but tickets sales are apparently going, "very well."
1) Single-game tickets never go on sale to the general public more than a month prior to the game
2) Official word is that any remaining seats will be made available to Hokie Club members, then season ticket holders before being sold to the general public.
3) Whit Babcock implemented partial season ticket plans last season to help sell tickets, and you can bet any remaining OSU tickets will be packaged with Furman and an ACC game, like Duke when put on sale for the general public... Or maybe 2 ACC games. Making the total cost $110 + 45 + 60 ($215) or $110 + 60 + 60. ($230)
Honestly your best bet is to buy season tickets. $350 for OSU and 5 other games that will easily get you $150+ if resold.
Why am I excited about this? I graduated in 1979...
Possibility for more Labor Day games? The crowd will be 3x more amped for this game? You love America? Some of the reasons I'm excited.
It's definitely going to help with the game day atmosphere.
