Depth and recruiting

Question, is our recruiting headed in the right direction?

An OSU fan made a great point. Football teams aren't successful just because the first string is great, but because the entire team is. If someone goes down, how good is the backup. Fair point.

Having our QB situation just feels off a little. Like why are we in this situation? Why don't we have a Mike linebacker? A third wide receiver? I'm not asking to replace Michael with Marcus, but some of the holes feel too big for a top 25 program. Excuses aside big programs reload, even with young players. Watching Louisville play a true freshmen Lamar Jackson, who looked like Vick at times, compounded by OSU's absurd depth, I couldn't help but wonder if we're missing something.

Additionally, recruiting is prob top 2-3 most important things a coaching staff can do. I remembr after the OSU game last year that Meyer said something to the effect, we have a lot of talented football players and we just didn't make the plays to win. I took that as he indexes highly on recruiting in terms of his coaching priorities. Listening to him talk at a coaches seminar, In his mind the coaches are there to facilitate the system and learning, but you have to have the weapons on hand to begin with.

Its no secret there is a difference between our recruiting and tOSU. You might be thinking that tOSU is big money football, and you're right, but we're no slouch thanks to CFB and Bud. We have a national brand and top notch facilities. We're also consistently top 25-30 in recruiting, but is that where we should be? I doubt we compete with the likes Bama, OSU, or LSU but I can't help but feel we're missing something.

Seeing the hires Whit made in the recruiting department are encouraging but also a sign that maybe something was missing. It seems like the coaches are doing a better job getting out there, but I'm curious what the other top programs are running under the hood to drive recruting growth. Are we headed in right direction? Lawson and Settle were big but the question is more about having depth and a well rounded team with serviceable backups.

Would love to hear thoughts. Am I crazy? Are we on track with recruiting? Why do I say 45 hail marys before every game because we have no margin for injury...?
