Just wanted to take a poll.
From what I have read about Fuentes offense, it has the ability to beat out pure talent, so I am leaning towards yes. Could it happen this year... possibly (See Auburn's first year with Gus), but by year 3, I think its possible.

You just went full LOLUVA. You never go full LOLUVA.
You just invented my favorite new meme.
Full LolUVA:
This is full LOLUVA.
I made this too.
Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner
First thing I thought, NOO! He went full LOLUVA
Full loluva?
I'll worry about that in January. For now, I am looking forward to beating Tennessee.
Is it possible...anything is possible. Would I bet on it? Nope.
this year Hell No..
Year 3-> depends on upcoming recruiting classes and our defense.
Smh.
Bama is a machine right now. They'll lose every now and then and we might be able to beat them in a few years but I sure wouldn't bet on it. The amount of talent on Bama is ridiculous, I think their whole two deep is 4/5 stars
Not to mention, we have 10 players on current NFL rosters. Bama probably has 10+ players that will be drafted next year. Huge gap in talent. Yuuuge I tell you
Bama isn't pure talent though. They're talent, development, discipline and coaching all put together.
Agreed. Top-5 talent. Best HC in the country unless you want to argue Urban, in which case Saban is no worse than #2 IMO. Top-10 staff even with that weasel kiffin. Best S&C coach in the country. Among the best player development programs in the country. Being at their level is a great goal but we're a long way from there right now.
You forgot: Top-3 in under-the-table player salaries...
It's easy to allege that they're getting results by cheating, and it's not like I've got any knowledge either way, but I gotta believe that by now they would have been exposed if it was that blatant. Maybe I'm just naive, who knows.
Anyway, as a football fan, not just a VT fan, I really enjoy watching what CNS is doing. I wasn't alive to watch guys like Rockne, Lombardi, or Halas, and I was too young to really appreciate the greatness of Bryant, Walsh, or Landry. But now, I get to watch a true master of his craft at work. Sure, there are and will be other great coaches, but a generation from now I'll be telling my grandkids about "the process" and how no one before or since did it quite as good as Saban, the same way that I'll be telling them that no matter what they might think, Michael Jordan is still the GOAT. Rather than throw stones out of jealousy, I'll just sit back and enjoy, and hope to one day see Fuente lead us into battle against him.
I cosign this. I think it's silly to just assume everyone who is having more success than someone you root for is blatantly and aggressively cheating.
I'd be inclined to agree if Saban didn't hire known recruiting violators.
to me recruiting violations at this point are like speeding tickets, everyone does it and to different degrees, it's just a matter of if you've been caught
No, no, no... You can't say that because if you do, this also means that VT is also committing violations, and that is an opinion that simply does not go over well here. Trust me on this one.
glad they blurred his mouth there. Wouldn't want those lip reading kids to be exposed to crude language.
I think we should take one game at a time.
We're a pretty long ways away from that conversation.
Fully grasped? Maybe. Fully dipped though...
I missed this and posted something similar below. Gotta give you credit though.
With MV7, Kevin Jones, Kam and others in their primes, yes.
Now. Probably not. I just don't think we have the horses. Ours are too busy running on treadmills.
we will find out in January of 2019. If Bama holds up their end.
Who would win in a fight - coach Ditka or a hurricane? What if the hurricane was named Hurricane Ditka?
You know guys, I really think this is the year we don't lose even one game!!!
I struggled not to downvote a LOLUVA quote. Even in jest.
If we played Bama with our offense absolutely humming 100 times Bama would win 99 of them. This is a silly query
I have full faith that Whit hired someone that would be able to take us to the promised land and win. That Fuente could field a team that could beat a team like Bama. That should be all of our expectations.
I don't expect it to happen over night, but Whit didn't just hire someone that was going to get us back to 10 win seasons, he hired someone that could win the whole damn thing.
If you pit this year's teams together, Bama would win 99/100 times. That's what I'm saying. Fuente may eventually be able to build a national title contender but we don't know that about him. After losing to Tenn this weekend the tune will probably be different. Fuente has a lot of building to do and I have faith that he will make us a better team than we have been but I'm not gonna profess that he'll get us to the promised land. He has to show us something first.
Before this season started most people (TheFifthFuller aside) pegged this team as a 6-8 win team (mostly) with losses to Tenn, ND, and the upper echelon of the Coastal. I don't see any reason to change tack now. I expect us to lose in Bristol this weekend (but I'll be extremely pleasantly surprised if we win). Let Fuente get through half a season before we decide to anoint him as a future NT winner for the Hokies.
memphis beat ole miss last year who beat alabama... ipso facto we will be able to beat alabama when we have the offense down at the end of the year... in january
Don't add (or subtract,in this case) your chickens before they hatch.
I respectfully disagree... I think we'd sneak up on them every tenth time or so, since they'd be so bored of winning. Of course then again, maybe not, that logic has failed loluva.
I don't think anyone can beat Bama right now.
To answer though - No, not right now. Not sure who can beat Bama right now, but judging by LOLUVA's thought process, maybe Richmond?
I certainly wouldn't want to play them just to get USC'ed.
Or Wisconsin'ed...realistically playing them twice OC, and getting to double digits both times is starting to look real good. The first time we even had a shot to win...the second time we got smashed, but still did better than most other teams who play them early in the season.
I think we got the benefit of playing relatively early Saban. Every time they lose he just gets madder.
This guy is just a straight shooter with upper management written all over him!
such a weird/random question.... but lol no
Right now, I think Bama could beat at least 16 teams in the NFL.
Looks like you left out the AFC. I got your back.
You just went full LOLUVA.
(I know you're joking though [at least I really hope!])
No
Our team could be fully dipped and still not beat Alabamer
Quality shitpost my man. Bravo.
That's not being a dick. Shitposting is when you write out a post and put effort into making it present like a thoughtful post, but it's just a troll job. This is a quality shitpost. That's a compliment haha.
I am far from a troll my friend.
Then you got the talent to go to the top my man!
I heard App State was a title contender somewhere. Maybe they could beat them?
More likely than the odds of LOLUVA beating Oregon, but less likely than Buzz winning the Stanley Cup. Which brings us the much better question: do we reach the playoffs, the final four, or win a wrestling championship first?
I'll take wrestling for $600, Alex.
I'll take Seth Allen ripping a snapshot bar down from the left dot in 2OT to beat the Stars and bring home the cup next year for Buzz. And then we go to the final four in 2018 on the coat tails of Justin Robinson
I'm still trying to convince myself that if the offense is good we can beat Tennessee. Try again later.
NOPE
No and it wouldn't be close

That is all. Good day, sir.
Well...we have beaten Saban before.
And Kiffin.
Together?
We just dominated perennial powerhouse Liberty and are undefeated on the season. Sky's the limit here honestly
No
Is it possible for Fuente's scheme to win a National Championship? I think yes.
Is it possible for Fuente's scheme to beat a Saban coached team? I think yes.
Could our current roster beat Saban's current Alabama team? I think No.
I think it's way too premature to bring up at this point in Fuente's tenure and overall a fairly pointless question anyway.
However, I'll be the dissenter here and say that I don't think it's nearly as impossible as other commenters seem to think. Alabama has done a tremendous job in the big opening games over the last few years and I think Saban excels when given extra time to prepare for a game. We saw that again against USC last week, though I also think USC will end up being much closer to a .500 team than a top 25 team. If you look at the rest of the season though, Alabama hasn't gone undefeated since 2009. They typically have several close games a year so as long as we are a bowl caliber team, it's conceivable we would stand a chance (and certainly better than 1/100).
That depends- do they award bonus points to the team with the most bubble screens and sideways yards? Because if so VT would rack up those points and might have a chance.
