The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced Monday that Austin Peay University has been added to the 2012 Hokie football schedule and will play in Lane Stadium next fall as part of Tech's home schedule. The Governors replace East Carolina on the schedule in a one-game deal. The East Carolina game was moved in part to make room for Tech's 2013 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Alabama in the Georgia Dome.
Virginia Tech and Austin Peay have never met in football.
In addition to Austin Peay, Tech will play Bowling Green at home, at Pittsburgh and against Cincinnati at FedExField in Landover, Md., next season in non-conference action. The 2012 football schedule will be released by the ACC in late January/early February of 2012.
Seriously? For people who are familiar with Weaver's scheduling preferences it was obvious Tech was looking for a I-AA opponent in 2012. But Austin Peay? The Governors have gone 3-13 in Ohio Valley Conference play the past two seasons and over that same time have been shellacked 72-10 by Cincy and 70-3 by Wisconsin. Is JMU too good for us now or something?

I want JMU again. because we will annihilate them and it will make me feel better. Austin Peay is a poor choice of scheduling.

At least playing Appalachian St or any FCS team from VA provided intrigue.
Let's hope it's a good enough scrimmage so the rebuilt offensive line and the incoming RBs get good reps. They'll need it...

I'm sure plenty of FCS schools would want to play us but it's not like VT could just have their pick of anyone they want. Other teams are tied up/don't want to play us/whatever reason.
That said, if someone like JMU or were available and wanted to play, then this was a boring choice.
