Everyone is Getting Canned

A quick (and not comprehensive) list of big time schools that are in the market for a head football coach:
-NC State

Many more to come in the next few days.
So what does this mean for VT?
Does Bud get an offer? Shane?
Any of these former HCs worth a look for a potential vacancy on the offensive staff?

Also BC

But maybe they don't qualify as big time.

If Kentucky is big time then BC is definitely big time.

Rip his freaking head off!

That's a fair point.
But at least Kentucky is in the SEC.

idk much abt some of the coaches being let go but are there any good offensive minds of these that we could pick up, or even be interested in getting if our offensive staff has some vacancies?

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

The first one that comes to mind is Gene Chizik. That would be ideal but also is very unrealistic because he's probably gonna find a head coaching job somewhere. I don't really know too much about those others that were fired.

Rip his freaking head off!

Chizik is a defensive coach

Hence why once Malzahn left for Arkansas State, Auburn went down the tube rather rapidly offensively.

Oh, good call. My bad

I don't think that any of the fired coaches would be a good pick up for Tech, I'm still hoping for the Fridge, or Tony Franklin.

I think Friedgen would be one of the best fits for replacement OC. Damn shame Maryland canned him right when he was turning the team around, but if we could pick him up it'd be a hell of a hire for us.

Moreover, Beamer would be able to trust The Fridge with his offense.
But, I just wonder if his age would be a liability in attracting players for VT?

Many of my buddies believe that Stiney will be retained in some capacity (Line coach or recruiter), O'Cain will retire, and Newsome will be axed.

Your buddies

I hope your buds are right, and that we hire a new OC who knows what he wants to do and how to get it done. Also an O-Line coach who will teach great technique, aggressiveness and simplicity to our guys. That would be my New Year's wish.

Everyone thinks Mike O'Cain is older than he is.

he's 58 years old, he's not retiring.

Bud Foster is 53. He's older than most think.

MOC must have mentioned it to more than one person because my dad said he mentioned it to him sometime this fall.

Is it bad that when I clicked on this article, I was hoping to see that we had already fired some people?

Not bad at all..

I saw this in another forum comment, and its really unsettling that we haven't even talked about a single change after seeing all of these.

"Go Hokies!" - Thomas Jefferson

I think changes are coming.

However, they won't happen until after the bowl game, which is not what I was hoping for.

I agree

I was hoping to see an OC change before the bowl game. If we are going to make a change that is a change in offensive philosophy, then I would like to see the players have as many practices as possible within the new system. Especially with kicking off next season against Alabama. Saban's defense will not be the most ideal side to face in a new offensive scheme.

Counter Argument

It may actually benefit us, because Saban will have zero game tape to show what our offense could be bringing to the table.

I like this premise. But more practice is always good too.

change is coming "i think"

they held a party/meeting for the high end donors.(before UVA) the only reason for this was weaver is scarred that this season may effect overall donations from the big guns and season tickets sales from everybody for the football program. he promised/hinted at change with out saying it just in case everything doesn't as planned i was told by a member there. he hinted there would be new faces but was 100% sure on what direction that they wanted.
most of the people there expressed that they wanted to go back the way tech had won in the past by heavy running/prostyle. while some of the younger people were hopeful of just bringing something totally new in.
personally i think newsome gets the door, o'cain is shown the door or like stiney handed a different position like hite was the last time this group wanted change.

super duper senior status

I met/spoke to Bruce Smith at Big Als Friday night and he hinted that change was coming and expressed his want for change. He had Beamer's back, but made it clear some changes need to be made on the offensive side. If Bruce wants it, it should happen.
