Holy short week, you guys. **Rubs eyes, I gotta write what by Wednesday night!?** Even though I feel like a zombie after the Hokies Monday night win, I hope to get a pass for the abbreviated, subpar Six Pick effort. One thing I can't excuse are the poor results of 90% of us last week. This week may not be much better as the lines for these games have given me pause. I only wish these games were a bit more interesting. The good news is this may be the worst week of games on the schedule, so we can get this out of the way early while it's still hot outside. I promise, you'll get a big game, good effort from me next week when business picks up.

So ESPN's College Gameday is headed to College Station, Tx for the Aggies first game as a member of the SEC. This is the equivalent of pity sex and was clearly engineered by SEC boss, Mike Slive. The oddity of this broadcast will be seeing everyone sweat their cojones off while a bunch of guy cheerleaders in white do the hand jive behind Fowler, Corso and Herbstreit. Also, who will ESPN find as their celebrity game picker this week? aTm has limited options, with it either being George H.W. Bush or Ryan Tannehill's wife. Hot sells.

Miami at Kansas State -6.5 12:00 PM FX
BCOATV - BeerControlOffense Approved Tailgating Vehicle
How many Hurricane players think this game in is NYC? The correct answer is all of them. Boy are they in for a surprise. Landing in Kansas won't be a complete culture shock to them as they do play in Blacksburg, but you have to think Al Golden will have to tighten tie to get his team to respect the Wildcats. KSU isn't going to wow anyone with over the top athletic ability, but they'll play the "right way" with discipline, max effort and some other buzz words. Miami as we all know is real young, but stop me if you heard this before, the Canes are athletic with a lot of potential! QB Stephen Morris for the Canes is a game manager who won't make the big plays good and bad that Jacory Harris did, but if last week is any indication just hand the ball off to freshman RB Duke Johnson that will be good enough for 6 wins right there.
Pick: K-State by a touchdown or more. Home-field, better coaching and experience trump talent, just that simple.
Central Florida at Ohio State -17.5 3:30 PM NBC
So many inappropriate jokes I can't tell.
Tonight at 10pm or so, Urban Meyer will be in tOSU football offices and he'll be upset. It's not the miscues from game one or reneging on his family promise that have him edgy. You see, Urbs is a competitive man and he hates second place and come Saturday he won't be the biggest asshole on the field. UCF coach George O'Leary has that distinction. (If you expected anything more than asshole jokes with both of these cats involved, you are clearly reading the wrong post.) However jerky these guys might be, they can coach up some football players and in America that's all that matters. See Bobby Petrino being hired within the year.
Pick: UCF getting points, keeping it close. The Knights are not a bad football team, this will be a good game.
Florida at Texas A&M -1.5 3:30 PM ESPN
Thanks to Hurricane Isaac aTm did not play their first game against La Tech last week. So the Aggies will not have 0 games to iron out the wrinkles of the Air Raid offense of new HC Kevin Sumlin before entering into SEC play. What could go wrong? To be fair Will Muschamp still has a ways to go to reload Florida as the Gators looked like a steaming pile for much of this past Saturday. In short this game could go either way and likely to not be an attractive product visually.
Pick: aTm. I coin flipped this game. I'm not bullshitting you. (expert analysis you can count on.)
Washington at LSU -23.5 7:00 PM ESPN
No one with any credibility is going to pick UDub to beat LSU, but Six Pick isn't about that. What we want to know is can the Huskies stay within 3 touchdowns and field goal of the Bayou Bengals. LSU is going to have a dominant, shutdown defense and in that regard they aren't going to miss Tyrann Mathieu. However his seemingly larger than life playmaking ability will be most felt on the lack of scores directly associated to his ball hawking skills. To cut to the chase, how will LSU cover all these spreads if the Honey Badger isn't scoring or setting up an easy touchdown every game for Les Miles?
Pick: UDub, to lose by only 3 touchdowns. Zach Mettenberger while an upgrade to last year's 2 headed monster, won't be asked to do too much and i'm not sure they'll run it up either.
Nebraska -5.5 at UCLA 7:30 PM FOX

Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez returns to southern California bringing his fleet feet and inconsistent javelin throwing motion with him. He'll be amped to show off in front of all his family and friends and show everyone else about the one who got away. While UCLA is improved this year and can score points, stopping Martinez and RB Rex Burkhead if healthy will be a difficult proposition. The tease is Martinez threw 354 yards and 5 touchdowns vs Southern Miss last week, so inevitably with his ego swollen and playing jacked up he'll rebound to the shitty throwing qb we all know, right?
Pick: Nebraska covering the spread. T-Mart will relive some of his T-Magic days on the ground and be bit erractic in the air, but I got the sense he is going to ball out at home overall.
Georgia -1.5 at Missouri 7:45 PM ESPN2

I see you Mizzou, week 2 in God's football conference and already headlining the top game of the week. After reading the interviews from both players and coaches Mizzou is coming into the conference with much bravado. I like it, like it A LOT. Likely one of two things will happen and both are very good for the public. The Tigers will have the piss knocked out of them or the SEC will be slightly humbled for letting some Big 12 vagrant come in and show us the ESS EEE SEE isn't so bad after all.
Pick: Georgia. While Mark Richt hasn't lost control of my common sense, I do think the UGA defense will be pretty stout and Mizzou will be shown what big boy, ok, almost big boy SEC football is all about.
Beer of the Week
Duchesse De Bourgogne is the beer of the week. It's a Belgian Flanders Red. It's light, woodsy, sour and really enjoyable. I'm a known hophead and this is very, very far away from that. It took some getting use to but, it's a world class beer and worthy of a try at least once. The Duchess makes for a great summer or fall beer.
Quick Recap
Remember, these picks are against the spread.
Miami at Kansas State -6.5
UCF at tOSU -17.5
Florida at aTm -1.5
UDub at LSU -23.5
Nebraska -5.5 at UCLA
UGA -1.5 at Mizzou
Thanks again for the large turnout last week. Please keep playing and spread the word. Good luck.

Comments
What is that girl doing to that football?
I have no idea what's going on there, perhaps the most unnatural pose ever, but I like it, and I think that's the point.
KSU - Al Golden's tie isn't winning him any games.
UCF - Big East Dominance (coming in 2013)
UF - I wonder if Pease has found the next Kellen Moore at UF, excelling at throwing the ball 2-8 yds beyond the line of scrimmage...
LSU - This is the year Jake Locker wins the Heisman
UCLA - the other famous NFL coach's son in LaLa land gets it done baby bear style
UGA - The Mizzou fans that chanted "S-E-C, S-E-C" at the Big 12 Basketball championship are going to find out exactly what they were cheering for
I don't know what she's doing to the ball...
but it makes me want to be a football!
K State - Al Golden's shit-the-bed-face guarantees a loss
UCF - Gonna hafta pick against the bestie's rival school
Florida - Because I hate the state of Texas
LSU - Because I picked the other way on the other big spread
Nebraska - Bo Pellini SMASH
Mizzou - for the lulz
BOTW - I think I'm still hungover from this weekend... But I do have a few Shiner Ruby Redbirds in the fridge. They need to make that a full-time offer and not just a seasonal

I wasn't looking at the football
but that's just me.
Miami - 11AM kick local time? yeah ok. Miami because they are used to playing in an empty stadium.
UCF - UCF isn't any better than 2003 when we beat them by 21. I also think this tOSU squad is better than our 2003 squad. However, the transitive property comparison theory doesn't work with football (ref: any WVU fan talking about us and clemson) so UCF to cover.
TAMU - Once Kevin Sumlin figures out that Muschamp's plan of starting 11 quarterbacks is just an optical illusion that has nothing to do with Star Wars, TAMU should win.
LSU - Didn't we lose by more than 23.5 in a similar setup with a better team? Oh yeah the transitive property comparison theory doesn't work with football. Except in tiger stadium at night.
Nebraska - sand, sun, and silicone makes better cheerleaders but corn, corn, and corn makes better football players.
UGA - This will feel a lot like the SC/Vandy game and will end a lot like the SC/Vandy game.
UCLA Cheerleaders. Bottom right.

Must be Track Week
Because these are all Dogs (not dawgs)
Kansas State -- Even with 6, count them 6! fumbles Boston College STILL racked up over 500 yards on Miami. DaU is like watching bumper cars zipping at 60mph.
UCF -- Their win against Akron was just as impressive as tOSU's. I dont think it will be close but not over 3 scores.
Florida -- EW? On one hand watching UF play Bowling Green was like watching a one armed man in a rowboat. Nonetheless, its aTm's first game with too many new schemes and coaches.
LSU -- Probably a dumb pick with that many points but UDub scoring 21-12 agaisnt SDSU doesnt inspire a lot of confidence.
Nebraska -- Win by a TD at least. Taylor Martinez looked pretty solid
DAWGS -- Too much defensive talent. Welcome to the $EC
BOTW: Tried a Post Road Pumpkin Ale at SheSha in BBurg this last weekend. Stellar.
Picks
KSU - Home field advantage, well coached, young hurricanes, Cats by 10.
OSU - At the horseshoe, primetime, UCF may keep it interesting midway through, but the Buckeyes pull away late in 3rd - Urban by 20.
aTm - by a field goal, home field advantage gets them this win, Florida was not all that impressive last week at all.
Washington - agree with beercontrol here, LSU by about 3 TD's.
Nebraska - Big Red gets it done by 2 TD's - Martinez has a solid performance.
Georgia - welcome to the SEC Mizzou, Dawgs by 7.

LSU
Nebraska
Mizzou -- My brother is a UGA grad. He has zero faith in their defense since Ogletree and Rambo aren't playing. Therefore, neither do I.

Looking for week 2 improvement
mainly because it can't get much worse than 1-5...well, ok, it could be 0-6, but let's be positive.
KSU - but by less than the spread. Word has it that they have Enter Sandman cued in the pressbox, just so they can catch Al Golden's face on TV when they play it.
OSU - again by less than the spread....You wonder if GT is wishing they had O'leary back.
aTm - by 3....watched a few plays of FL/BG last week only because we have BG later.....I don't know if FL is not good or BG is better than I expected, but the game was unwatchable, so I turned the channel.
LSU - the mad hatter rules, but by less than the spread
Neb - huskers don't make the spread, mainly because they see the UCLA beauties above and do what I did when I saw them...trip over their tounge.
Dawgs win by more than the spread....but they think its an out-of-conference game until somebody tells them after its over.
i'd like to be that football.

week 2
Kansas State - Miami was god awful against Boston College, and I believe KSU has enough experience to win by two scores
tOSU - Urban struts his stuff in order to try to get more cameras on him. UCF isn't that bad, but Urban will run up the score
aTm - Florida's secondary looked horrible against Bowling Green, and the Aggies love to toss the rock.
LSU - I know this is a 4 score spread and LSU is allergic to scoring, but it is in the real death valley, and Wash hasn't shown me anything
UCLA - Nebraska has a hard time stopping mobile quarterbacks, which is funny to me but true none the less
UGA - to cover and more. Georgia was the only SEC east team to really impress me so far. I am picking them to win the East this year and to pave a nice path on the way to the Georgia Dome.
BOTW - My beer will still in a can for one more week

Intuition Ale I-10 IPA
gotta post
how it is. loving the can revolution. sierra in cans is my standard go-to now. loving dales, and if you haven't tried deviant dales, do so. but don't get greedy...only a 4 pack is needed. same with Resin. 4 will do you just fine. both are a different buzz, kinda like tequilla.
untappd, vtnerf...check it out.
added you on untappd
since in maryland, you need to make your way to philly and find alchemist heady topper in cans, very few places have it, but it is so worth it.
I'll put my old roommate on that
His parents are still there, and he's in C;burg. free room n board when Hokies play, and he has killer season tix. Used to be on sidelines for games until ACC clamped down on numbers, so he's in a few highlights on the power hour...
I'm 2+ hours away from Philly unfortunately...about 2 from B'more, DC, Philly, so we are close, but not really. Went to Churchkey for SEVERAL hours for bach paarty in Feb!!!!!! THAT was a good time...
I added you on untappd. I-10 IPA is the best IPA in Jacksonville, that being said, there aren't many good beers in Jacksonville. If you are loving the canning you should check into Avery and 21 Amendment beers. They do a good job putting their beers in aluminum. Also Anderson Valley puts their Hop Ottin in a can and that is not bad. I agree with BCO above though that Head Topper is probably the best, and I can't believe he didn't mention Modus Hoperandi by Ska brewing.
Here is a site with a list of a bunch of cans if you are interested
Craft Cans
Churchkey is awesome...watched the playoffs there last year would go all day and have a $20 tab. Next time hit up Meridian Pint or Pizzeria Paradisio. Don't forget about DC Brau, 3 Stars, or Port City breweries as well!
But yes....cans are awesome. Drank a 4 pack of Dale's Deviant Ale before the game on Monday.
actually
hit Merididan Pint for lunch that day, then hit the Churchkey.
And Modus Hoperandi is killer. And 21st Amendment has got some good stuff going too.
Bet a game on Deviant is a unique experience...
Kansas State - I can't imagine that Boston College has an offense worthy of putting up 32 points. If KSU won last year, I'd like to think they can pull out a 7 pt victory at home this year.
UCF - This is almost as bad as having to vote between Giant Douche and Turd Sandwich. I think Giant Douche (Meyer) does what he can to run up the score, but I'm not sure Turd Sandwich (O'Leary) will be flushed down so easily.
Florida - The Will Muschamp era at Florida has been strikingly similar to the Ron Zook era (maybe even worse so far), and I have to admit I'm loving it. I wish I could pick A&M, but with a new coach and skill players and no game last week, I have no idea what to expect.
Washington - I don't know jack about UDub, but LSU didn't look that impressive so I'll take the points.
Nebraska - I can barely remember a time when UCLA wasn't underachieving. Nebraska looked good last week against a Southern Miss team much better than Rice.
UGA - UGA is ranked 7th in the country and is a 1.5 favorite @ unranked Mizzou? Something doesn't add up (hint: UGA shouldn't be ranked 7th). I think this is basically a toss up and I'm just going to go with UGA because Aaron Murray should be better than James Franklin.

At least I'm going to pick 6 this week instead of 5, so maybe I will get 2 right... but that is probably just wishful thinking.
I'm going back to picking the teams that I want to lose and use a little reverse psychology.
Kansas State - yeah no one likes Miami, but the ACC can use all the wins we can get
tOSU - That is a lot of points, hopefully the UCF golden/black/yellow? some color of Knight can give the Walnuts a scare
Florida - I'm not sure why, but I think that aTm and VT are similar plus we have beat them a few times so I don't mind rooting for them against typical SEC schools.
The Fighting Lesticles (LSU) - The Huskies don't play any defense but maybe they can score a few points.
Nebraska - They are ranked close to us so they should lose!
