Steven People RB for Galax

First time post but felt like it was my duty to share a (impo) hidden gem. I got a chance to scout him and watch him run for 200 plus yards against my team a few weeks back. He has that extra something I have rarely seen in a player.

Steven Peoples 5'11" 205lbs of pure power.

All I will say is that this kid is special and would love to see him in VT colors. I have heard little about him in the recruiting world. This is his first year playing running back (FB before this year) for Galax and he is a monster. He recently broke the State record for yards in a game with 502 yards rushing on just 22 carries plus he had a fumble return and an interception.

Here is an article about his People's Big night.

Also a link to some David Wilson type skills at a recent talent show (don't ask me why he is wearing a wig, I have no idea)

I hope the embed works, if not here is the link to it.

Send an email to John Ballein about him (jballein@vt.edu)

That's what I did regarding Sam Rogers last year, and he actually responded by saying thanks for the heads up.

AWESOME! Turkey Leg for you sir!!!

Thanks for the heads up. I will send an email to him today.

Just been confirmed through email.

"Thanks for your correspondence. We are well aware of this young man and are actively recruiting him."

Since there's no 24/7 or rivals type profile online for him, my guess is that he's a low profile recruit that we'll probably offer a preferred walk-on spot to.

He's low-profile because he doesn't attend the various camps.

Personally speaking, I'd offer him a scholie and let Dr. Ballein work out the details.

Do we have a highlight tape of him or anything?

All I could find at the moment is his Hudl page with some highlights.

his running (people over) reminds me of darren evans.

1:45-1:55 I agree! Love to see that

Wow- pretty impressive. Wonder if we can also recruit the ref shown around the 2:20 mark. He looks like a beast...

Wonder if there is any relation to Village People?

I really hope we see a power running game return next season.

It's a shame I haven't seen this kid play yet since I drive through Galax nearly every day. I've heard he's pretty special though.

Nice work everyone, always good to see an under the radar kid found by the fans.

Fun fact; this kid is coached by former all-american guard from LOLUVA, Mark Dixon. I've heard he's pretty tight with CFB and Foster though.

...so the coach is smart!

I think he might be a tad slow to be an every-down back for VT, but he definitely looks like he could offer another athletic fullback option for Loeffler to use. He reminds me a bit of Evans/Oglesby. Hopefully he can work on that straight-ahead speed, get on campus and show us what he can do.

Steven Peoples was apparently at the Duke game. Also, saw that he has been credited with the VHSL record for 502 yards.

Fortune Favors the Bold

This excerpt sums it all up nicely:

He is an amazing athlete, he is the best blocker I have ever had here, he makes up for that by being the best receiver I have ever had and he makes up for that by being the most physical player I have ever had, said Dixon, who played at the University of Virginia and in three different professional football leagues, including the NFL. He is just dynamic, I cant explain it, you just sit and watch and I am in awe."

As someone from the area, I will be the first to say that the level of competition he is facing is somewhat lacking. But, given that the praise is being heaped by a former NFL player, it definitely carries some weight.

Had I known about him earlier, I might could have gotten up there to see him play. Maybe next year....in Blacksburg. Stranger things have happened.

His 247 profile shows no offers yet so we do have the advantage in that if we offer a greyshirt, he would have no choice but to take that. That would separate him from Williams and Reid, and also would make a nice combo of RB's for next year with McClease being the speed back and Peoples being the power back.

I agree with some other comments after watching his video. Not sure he's a tailback just due to speed. He seems more like a fullback because his blocking was outstanding and technique was really good. Also, I really liked his defensive footage. Too bad he's not 6'1 or 6'2 and I would sign him up to play middle linebacker.

And, while his hudl film is good, the most impressive footage is his flips from this Mr. Maroon Tide Pageant. Takes a real athlete to do that.
