Cequan Jefferson heading to Temple

Per his twitter account, Cequan Jefferson, who committed to Virginia Tech out of high school but had to prep at Fork Union for a year, has announced that he will be going to Temple for football.

This is unfortunate. As I noted in my film review of him last year, Jefferson had a very similar skill set to Brandon Facyson, and perhaps had an even better jump on the ball playing robber and off coverage. I was very hopeful that he would come to Blacksburg and factor into the battle for the 3rd corner spot.

I'm terribly sorry he won't be playing for us, but I am thrilled he has found a home for his college career.

Too bad for us, but good for him. Something tells me the reputation that we have as DBU will bring in some other talented kids in no time. Good luck to Cequan at Temple.

Too bad...I am sure we can fill the spot however.

I am very glad he will be getting a great education, and he should get an opportunity to play early at Temple. Still, their gain is our loss. He will be a good player.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Just curious, why is he able to go to Temple and not us. Is it academic standards or something else. Kind of don't get that. Do we have that much higher of standards than Temple. Temple is a good school. Don't think it was him flipping or anything because of this tweet below. Just curious as to how this process works out sometimes.

Virginia Tech '12
Go Hokies and Philly Sports

Temple requirements for admission are lower than ours

What the........?
Is this freakin' bizzaro world?

Plus 1 for Rudy.

True Hokies STICK IT IN!!!

STICK IT IN Army of Virginia Tech

Whatevs. I get that he's a great player and would add depth to our secondary, but I don't really mind that much.

Frank Beamer has built this program on integrity, something that is lost on several Division 1 programs. If Cequan couldn't jump through the necessary hoops, he doesn't deserve the opportunity. We're not going to bend our academic standards for no individual, not him, not Drew Harris, not anyone else.

I love the fact that our administration is setting this precedence: if you don't meet the standards that Virginia Tech sets, you don't belong here. Period. We don't make exceptions for anyone. This isn't UNC, we care about our players graduating and representing the program in the right way.

Maybe he got swerved by all the Bill Cosby money.

Wish him the best of luck in philly

It was put on roanoke.com too and the people commenting kept saying that he got wise and wanted to play somewhere else, instead of not qualifying academically. I guess I am too used to reading comments here that it has enlightened me to the idiocy of other people.

Be careful reading those comments in Roanoke. Lots of haters there...up to no good scoundrels just trying to get a rise out of us Hokies. But, to look at their side of the coin, the Roanoke Times showers crazy love and attention towards our program. It rubs the non -VPI folk some-kinda awful. The result is ignorant trolls on Andy's stuff...makes we want to punt my garden gnome into next week.

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

Ha! I remember letters to the editor in the Times years ago lamenting the pro-Hokie agenda at the expense of uva. Always good for a laugh
