2015 Six Pick - Week Six

Welcome to week 6 of the college football season, JERKS. Most of you are lingering around acceptance and few at depression concerning VT's status for the last 3.5 years in college football. It sucks and I am trying real hard not to be in full hate mode.

In a time where we fans are unhappily thinking about the present and not so distant future. Let's take time to remember the past. I am not saying Frank can go out on his own terms, but remember the man as he was setting and meeting lofty expectations. Damnit, I'm recentering to the memories portion of the Beamer era already.

The Games
Saturday October 10th
Northwestern at Michigan -7.5
3:30 pm B1G Ten Network

• Ladies and Gentlemen, the body face of the current great coach. If Harbaugh wants to stick around two decades in Ann Arbor, Michigan and college football will be better for it. Yeah right, he's in the NFL in 3 years or less
• Not much noise about Northwestern currently, but three really good wins over Stanford, Duke and Minnesota, if they add a fourth this week, the hype machine is going to really ratchet up and they should be in the top 10

Pick: Northwestern getting the points, because they have been tested and Michigan is due to play a close one. The real play is the under.

Oklahoma State at West Virginia -7.5
7:00 pm ESPN2

• The cousins 5 game stretch of OU, Okie St, Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech is pretty damn tough. This week is must win, but not at couch burning code red yet
• Not to make you feel old or anything, but Mike Gundy's "I'm a man, I'm 40" was 8 years ago

Pick: wvu covering the spread, it's a must win for the cousins.

TCU -9.5 at Kansas State
7:30 pm FOX

• I imagine that half smile is the look Bill Snyder gets when told he's too old to college football and he just kicked your ass. Now for some a sweet tea and a nap
• Get up and kick the state's blue bloods ass. Get even more full of self, even though their are some flaws. Go to the little apple and face Mr. Fundamental in a slow down, physical game. Scheduled let down if I ever saw one.

Pick: Kansas State getting the points as a home dog, the Wildcats will slow it down, grind it out.

Florida -5.5 at Missouri
7:30 pm SEC Network

• Trivia question. Which school filled the SEC East power vacuum the most often while Florida was getting their shit together. Answer: It's not the dawgs
• Speaking of let downs ... Jim McElwain has his work cut out for him, UF can't possibly be as jacked up for Mizzou as they were for Ole Miss. He doesn't have UF at elite talent to sleep walk through any non Vandy SEC game

Pick: Florida laying the points, winning by a TD, but it won't be nearly as impressive as last week.

Miami at Florida State -9.5
8:00 pm ABC

• The end is never pretty, even for the most legendary, like Dadgumit. Time is unforgiving
• The end is never pretty, even for those most unlegendary, like Golden. Being bad at your job is unforgiving

Pick: Miami getting the points, but Al Golden creatively finds another way to lose.

California at Utah -7.5
10:00 pm ESPN

• Kyle Whittingham is 55 and in the prime of his coaching career, with a $2 million salary. 21 years at Utah says he isn't going anywhere, but for love of Joseph Smith, pay the man
• The rise of the Utes, the fall of the Ducks and the depth of the Pac 12 South is obscuring a 5-0 Cal team. The wins may not be impressive, but let me tell you about how feels to be a fan on the unimpressive loss side

Pick: Utah covering easily. Cal hasn't played anyone this good yet, reality is going to slap them pretty hard.

Beer of the Week:

Lickinghole Creek Chocolate Decadence
For Lickinghole Creek's 2nd anniversary they are using their Heir Apparent Imperal Stout base and adding hundreds of pounds of chocolate malts from all over the world, and ridiculous amounts of South American grown cocoa nibs. Brewery pick up only, and conveniently, I'll be close to LCCB next weekend ... lets all hope #beercontrolfather can work his magic and pick some up.
