It is amazing that there isn't much to talk about

There is so much secrecy with the program. The social media videos don't even show drills anymore. It is just dudes doing sprints and stretching.

Game 1 can't get here soon enough.

When we start talking about how much there isn't to talk about, you know we're ready for the season. But I feel like I'd rather have nothing to talk about than many things to talk about.

And here we are talking about talking about how much there isn't to talk about....

We in here, talkin bout the offseason. We ain't even talkin bout the games, we talkin bout the offseason.

Woah, hey, not even close to the same!

This time of year, no news is good news.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

I'm not sure this is the right thread... but anyone know what the deal is with the "Week 0" games this weekend?

Couple good games to pay attention to!

USF (ranked preseason) plays against San Jose State. USF is one of the G5 teams that is in conversations for NY6 bowls.

Stanford plays Rice in Australia. Stanford is lowkey going to be good this year — should be a good tuneup game. Maybe they'll actually have the announcers on site this year?

I guess my question is what was the criteria that teams were allowed to play this weekend? I find it interesting that there are a handful of games on the ESPN networks yet ESPN is not acknowledging this as the start of the season.

The games played in Australia take place on Sunday there right? So technically it's the next week then.

There's a new rule that allows Hawaii and any team that will play at Hawaii during this season to play in "week zero". Since those teams already get an extra home game to offset the travel expenses, I assume the extra week is provided to cut down on some of the stress in the middle of the season.

And then there's the Australia game, which I assume is played early for logistical purposes.

Its teams that play @ Hawaii mostly. They still get to use their exception to schedule a 13th game, just now they dont have to give up what would a bye week for it. Since the move to 12 game regular seasons but the season being the same length the rule was sorta outdated.

Then you have the Aussie kickoff special.

Whoa!! Talk about jet lag.

You forgot the only game that might be competitive, Colorado State - Oregon State, which features a former ace sec coordinator auditioning for a big time hire this year in mike bobo and an oregon state team which wears orange and is from oregon.

"We consider August 26 to be Week 0 of the college football season because, for the vast majority of fans, the season begins in earnest on August 31 with a full slate of games among Top 25 teams and other major schools."

I'm certainly not complaining about the early start.

what the deal is with the "Week 0" games this weekend?

Super happy that Jerry Seinfeld responded to a "what's the deal question."

big play on first down.....we're gonna score big on West Virginia...just watch, Fuente is planning for some big gains against WVU.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

You mean like the Flea Flicker we tried against Boise State? Didn't result in a touchdown but we got a 15 yard PI call. I'd take that for the first play of the game again.

In 5 short days it will be WVU hate week...

I'm hoping there's a foe'rensics for the cousins as well. I know we've played them before but not since the inception of TKP.

I expect the DNA analysis on that foe'rensics will be pretty quick.

I had previously listened to the Beamer podcast. I just listened to the Fuente one and it was good.

I liked the "DJ Fuente to Oklahoma" part. That was funny.

You didn't know about CJF's experience at the decks? EDC is making a stop in Oklahoma City & he'll be there.

I don't know about you guys, but I miss the "good old days" when Kyle Tucker used to do his preseason practice write ups. He always had all these great little stories about some of the lesser known guys. Loved getting to know the background of some of the guys on the team. Its definitely been radio silence this year.

As a writer, it has been frustrating. There is some scuttlebutt that is around, but unfortunately without seeing it on video (and given how rumor and innuendo can be leaked by people around the program in an effort to purposefully mess up the WVU game planning), I don't feel comfortably stating something as news that I don't know to be fact.

At a very high level, I feel pretty good about some of the young OL, as I noted back in the spring. I like the mix of skill position guys and I think we will see some upgrades in blocking by those young guys. The loss of Farley hurts a ton because they don't have that big body guy who can take the top off a defense. Savoy and Pimpleton can get separation but they are not big bodies that can go up and win on an underthrown or back shoulder throw.

So so so much depends on the quarterback play. Jackson (and Bush if called upon) must be more efficient than Evans was, because those big plays over the top that bandaided some ills will likely be fewer and further between this year.

This got me excited to dominate some Polish sourdough pancakes at the hotel breakfast tomorrow morning.

Mook was having a lot of fun at Savoy's expense for something he did in practice Sunday.

Yea! Give us some half baked gossip that we can blow the board up with! We don't care if it is correct or not!

BREAKING NEWS OUT OF VIRGINIA!

The University of Virginia football practice was delayed nearly two hours today after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the field. The Coach Bromo immediately suspended practice and called the Virginia State Police and Federal Investigators. After a complete analysis, FBI forensic experts determined that the white substance unknown to the players was in fact the GOAL LINE. Practice resumed after experts from their in-state rival Virginia Tech stated The Cavaliers were unlikely to encounter the substance again this season.

Where is Lawson?!

Deablo starting at FS and Terrell at Rover? Is that news?

Since we're talking about nothing, I found this tidbit while researching non-conference schedules of the past few years...

The last two non-ACC Power 5 teams to come to Blacksburg were Ohio State in 2015 and Nebraska in 2009.

Pitt would have counted in 2013 if they hadn't joined the ACC that year. (Ultimately, their non-conference spot on the schedule was replaced by an away game at ECU.)

At least things pick up in the future with ND in 2018, PSU in 2020, Michigan and ND in 2021. From 2022-2025, we have one P5 team at home. If you want to count BYU as P5, then the streak will continue at least until 2030.
