Brandon Facyson Will Return to VT for Senior Season

Good news for DBU, as Facyson is coming back for one more year with the Hokies.

"I had some great times here at Northgate," Facyson said. "I wanted to make the announcement here at home because this community means so much to me.

"One of my decisions to come back to Virginia Tech is because I feel like I have room to grow. I wanted to improve my draft stock, but also the stock of this team."

Woooo!

Makes, sense. He has not regained his pre-injury form yet, needs a bit more time to be the badass he was as a freshman

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

KCCO

We maybe underestimated Detrick Bonner due to not being an athletic freak but he made sure that freshman Facyson knew what was coming his way every play. The leadership of DBU is often overlooked but it is what lets VT insert athletic freshmen into the lineup and produce year in and year out.

Glad to hear Facyson is coming back, make plays and be a leader!

This is a strong push. I can remember them bringing Exum along slowly as a freshman as well.

Should have read "strong post." Airline TKPing fail.

I wondered what the hell you meant about a stong push but then thought of a couple of times when a strong push is a positive (by the o-line, in bed & maybe others) and perceived it as a compliment.

Go Hokies

Good decision by Facsyon. My advice for him is get healthy this offseason, ball out next season, get drafted, have a successful NFL career, go to medical school, become a heart surgeon and then save lives.

No pressure bro.

Seems like you've thought about this.

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

Slacker. /s

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

Boy, what am I doing with my life?

That's huge. I was expecting he was gone, having is degree and all.

This might also be an effect of being able to get some of his medical school requirements done at Tech while the school pays for it.

For what it's worth, this probably isn't a consideration. Two reasons:

1) A biological sciences degree from Tech is the hokie version of a pre-med degree. If you get a BS in that field, you've completed all requirements to get into medical school minus the MCAT (admissions test) and volunteer/shadowing hours.

2) You can't test/opt out of ANY medical school requirements. No credits transfer or anything like that, so it's a clean slate regardless of whether you were a business major in college or you were a physician's assistant for a decade. Kind of crappy in that regard...

My guess is it's exactly as he says in his quote...namely, he wants to improve his NFL draft stock and he wants another year playing football in Blacksburg.

I think the trickle down effect of this is insane. It provides Foster with not only depth, but the flexibility to try players at different positions this spring to see how he wants the rotation to roll.

Excited about this secondary next season. Facyson, Stro, Alexander, Terrell, and Mook all returning. Big question is who will fill Chuck's shoes at FS. May have to do some shuffling, and of course would be huge to get Hunter onboard and in the mix next year. But a lot of talent and experience returning with DBlock.

I've seen a lot of scouts talk about how they drooled over his freshman film. I know some talent evaluators even preferred him to Kendall (which I personally disagree with) but that distinction is also based on the personal taste of the DC/organization/HC. For example, KC has been placing a premium on having tall, rangy corners, and has drafted accordingly.

Glad he's coming back because it makes me feel much better about our depth at corner.

First half of his freshman year, he was better than Kendall. He hasn't been the same since he played vs tOSU hurt in 2014.

I can certainly believe that assessment, if my memory serves me correctly, Kendall spent time between playing outside and covering the slot in 2013, essentially dependent on how we wanted to utilize Kyle that game. It wasn't until Kyle's injury that Kendall and Facyson were both playing outside every snap, with the exception of GT that year. All of that to say, I had a difficult time assessing who was doing better the first half of 2013 because they were doing different things.

No he wasn't. Kendall was the better overall player in the 1st half of that yr.

Um do you know who you're disagreeing with

Yes I do.

Go back and actually watch footage. Facyson made some highlight plays and had more INTs. Other than that Fuller was the better player. That's not to say Facyson played poorly...far from it. But he wasn't the better player of the two.

you're allowed to disagree with French around here. Hell, if you wanted to, you could make your own post with film analysis and say whatever the hell you wanted to.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors).

I realize that, it was intended to just be poking fun.

faycson had the flashier plays, but kendall was the more consistent/better player IMO. Brandon took a lot of gambles and had the picks, but those diminished in the 2nd half of the season and he started getting beat rather than making the plays.

a debate of the fine print. first 5 games...

4 starts; 9 tackles; 4 Ints; 3 BUs; 7 PD's

v.

4 starts; 16 tackles; 2 Ints; 3 BU's; 5 PD's

seems fairly even to me

If a tree falls in Scott Stadium does it make a sound?

when they were recruited, I don't think one could tell the difference in their film unless they knew the name of the HS they attended.

Most of his freshman year, he WAS the better DB than Kendall.

Good news.

Throwing this out there- would any of you agree that perhaps it would be worth looking at Facyson at free safety next year especially if Rodgers and Ladler can ball? That essentially gives Bud his "five corners" look that he tried with Jarrett-Bonner-Fuller-Fuller-Facyson

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

If he would become DJ Parker 2.0 I would be ecstatic.

Any thoughts on how Adonis could do at FS or do you think he's locked in at CB?

Jarrett-Bonner-Fuller-Fuller-Facyson

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

In light of no imminent enrollment of Fullers (looking at you Vinnie, you're next man up!), I propose that we do something similar to the "25" jersey next year for all of the DB's. Every DB's jersey should bear the name Fuller for every game.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

No offense, but that would be a huge insult to all of the other players that have been a part of making Virginia Tech the true DBU. Banks, Prioleau, Charlton, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Hamilton, Williams, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Exum, Jarrett and the other players who didn't get drafted put played their hearts out for our team.

Leg.

Also, RIP Keion. He was one of those players that put DBU and Terror Dome on the map.

Why not a jersey that has "DBU" on the back

That I would be fine with.

Is that Amy Adams? Man she used to be hot!

I think it's worth looking at every option available, and from Bud's comments in the past he seems to have that mindset. If he doesn't look like he's improving at FS by end of Spring practice then Bud knows what he has for Fall camp. If Facyson looks good but is outperformed during Fall camp, Bud's built up a little depth at the position to shuffle guys during a game.

I dunno. At this point, skeptical. Definitely want/expect to see a better performance out of him at corner next season and jack up his draft status.

A descriptor of "He can play anywhere in the defensive backfield" will absolutely help his draft status.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Agreed, pair that with his prototypical NFL sized long frame you will be having NFL GM's like whoa

Any alignment that gets Alexander-Stro-Edmunds-Faycson-Mook on the field together is the one I support.

The more DBs we have lining up next to the QB the better, IMO.

Is he suited for that hard hitter, blow-up-plays-from-everywhere role?

___

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

maybe. but I am skeptical of his run game physicality from the FS position. I'd almost rather see Reynolds back there and Stroman or Alexander 100% Nickel.

Or perhaps Edmunds at FS and Alexander at ROV with Stroman & Facyson @ CB.

I think there is definitely room to shake things up a little next year, but for me at least, no combo that I can think of moves Facyson off his corner spot. One reason that he's been quiet lately is that teams don't throw it to him much. He's lockdown more than he's not.

Leonard. Duh.

THIS^^^Thank you

Like pulling a big time recruit weeks before signing day! Good news for the Hokies and hopefully it works out for Facyson in the long run.

Sort of except with 1 year of eligibility not 3-5

"I wanted to improve my draft stock, but also the stock of this team."

This is all-tiiiiime Virginia Tech Hokieing.

I take back everything I've ever said against ya, Brandon.

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

Putting team first is what we like to see! Way to go Brandon.

Woah... if you're going to make fun of it all, at least be accurate. At least one of the WRs needs to be a DB

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.

SEE! This is what I'm talking about. THIS is what makes a true Hokie in my eyes. Improve your stock, the teams stock and your community's LOVE for who you are and what you're about. Appreciate all these young men for sacrificing body and limb for VT athletics. But I freaking LOVE a player with his mind set and determination. Congrats Facyson, you just made a fan for life.

It is a natural gift I posess to create friction in sensitive situations.

He should've already had you as a fan for life.

I think you have close to the same thing French is suggesting with AA as FS and Brandon healthy and locking down. In terms of getting all of those guys on one look.

I actually thought Facyson might grad transfer to UF to play for Torrian and maybe get an inside track on med school there.
