VT at ECU is on CBS Sports Network

CBS Sports Network can be tricky to find. I know that I've gone back and forth on having it on different systems.

FiOS has it on 94/594.
DirecTV is 221.
DISH is 158.

Fortunately, CBSSN has this handy link to show you what channel it should be on your cable/satellite system. Just type in your zip code and go:
https://www.cbssportsnetwork.com/schedule/

And with it being CBS, I don't know if there are any good streaming options.

If you have the X1 DVR, you can also set it to record or auto-tune to all Hokies games by setting VT as one of your favorite teams in the X1 sports app.

HD version for me on Xfinity is channel 1303. Hope the guys provide something worth watching today after the vanilla pudding from last week.

same in St Augustine

After ESPN and Fox gobbled up all of the Power 5 rights, the rest of the channels are fighting for the G5 and FCS scraps. So of course, when they have the ability to show a P5 team, they're going to do it.

CBSSN seems to show a Navy game every week.

CBS made a deal with Navy back when they were independent which runs through the end of this season. After that, Navy's home games get added to the AAC package. (Except Army-Navy, which is negotiated separately and remains on CBS for a long time.)

So, yeah, CBSSN is milking that one.

I welcome a new Hokie to the world on Friday. I hope the hospital picks up the game.

However, my wife is a Vol and UT plays Florida at the same time. I better keep momma happy.

Hey, is it a future Hokie or a Vol?

Your second sentence muddles the picture.

Leg anyway while you think it over.

Hokie.

So that tells you which station should be tuned in.

No worries, she'll be too wiped out to watch football. Get those VT swaddling blanket, knit cap, and booties ready.

I just used the handy link there in the post and it gave me the options of Hulu and YouTube TV to watch the game. Didn't know hulu broadcast live college football games

Also, for anyone that was unaware, Hulu and Spotify are running a great deal right now. You can get both for the grand total of $5 if you're a student.

I think you have to have Hulu Live - which is about 40 bucks a month unfortunately. I am going to try the free trial and hope that works.

I was pretty unhappy with Hulu Live. The interface is just a weird combination of Live and regular Hulu making it hard to find out what is actually live. Plus I had issues buffering when I have multiple devices in the same room without an issue and my internet is 75mbps. I forgot to cancel after the trial so got hit with the 1 month renewal but definitely did not renew after that. From my experience, PSVue is much much better.

How is Vue with sports? I don't think I can get th locals in Hampton roads with Vue. I'd hav to get an antenna.

I'm always tempted to cut th cord but I haven't done it yet

It's been great for me with sports and all other shows. The video quality is great.. No audio syncing issues and minimal buffering. I've only had buffering a couple of times but those were not during live sports and each time it has only lasted a few seconds. I am primarily using Vue on Fire TV boxes with wired internet though which I believe help with minimizing buffering vs using wifi. I've had people over to watch games and they don't realize that it's streaming until I change channels.

I really enjoy Vue and have had similar experiences you have. No syncing issues, or buffering. Slight delay but not unbearable. The trick is to use a box and not a stick (more power) and it helps so much by using a wired connection.

For the cable cutters among us, you can pick up your local CBSSN on YouTube TV or Hulu -- the link in the OP will tell you if you're in an area for this.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

YouTube tv is free for the first month...Two weeks

And you get a free chromecast after you pay for the next month.

I swear to drunk, I'm not God

That free Chromecast quickly became the main way I watch pretty much everything that is streaming now. Loving it.

But make sure you can get it in your location - My zip code, just outside of Blacksburg, didn't allow it.

PS Vue is now another option. They just added CBSSN yesterday.

Back to back years I have to go to a friends wedding during the ECU weekend. Hopefully we can get same results (on the field play and score) like last year

You need new friends.

No, no. Having any number of friends doesn't affect this if any one of them decides to get married in-season. The best bet is to not have any friends.

Just saw on bovada that we are 22 point favorites in this one...I might have to not put anything on this game cause I'll be pulling for a full on blow out, but because it is ECU (despite how awful they have been this year) and how our offense performed this week, I think I'd have to lean towards ECU covering the spread

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

22? I thought we opened as 21 point favorites, so this means the line is moving further in our favor?

Yeesh, ECU is truly bad this year

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.
Don't let the Belk Bowl take away from the fact that Matt Ryan blew a 25 point 2nd half lead in the Super Bowl.

I fully expect us to win by at least 22...unless I put money on it. If I put money on it, we'll be up 21 with time expiring and CJF will have Jackson take a knee to run out the clock and everyone except me will celebrate a dominant win over another shite team.

Up by 21, in FG range

Middle of the field 1st and goal on the 2, clock stopped at 18 seconds and ECU's players aren't paying attention and there's only 5 of them on the field.

The play call? Victory formation.

Guys, Fireman knows what is up here. My first job was doing GIS and addressing out of a 911 Center and to work in the building I had to become a 911 dispatcher in case of emergencies and work a few shifts a month to stay sharp.

Cell phone triangulation has come a long way, but that one time it doesn't, do you want to be the person that they can't zero in on? We always answered the phone "911, WHERE is your emergency?" That's the first thing you should get out of the way when calling 911. If you lose connection or your location doesn't come through, if they can get someone to you, they can help you.

Serious question, can 911 locate the phone via the GPS in it or can they not do that instantaneously? I remember on an old phone I had the option to either have the location on or "911 only". I always assume that if you called they could track your phone that way instead of triangulation.

The dispatch center has to be equipped for that, you hope the tower your signal bounced off picked the right dispatch center, your phone carrier has to make sure it's network can handle it and if you live in a tightly packed area what good will your GPS do, it can't tell us which unit is yours.

So if someone hypothetically lived in the DC suburbs in a single family home would all those things be likely to work out? Asking for a friend.

I see how having a land line is ideal, but rarely am I near the land line we have whereas I'm almost always near a cellphone. Really the only reason we still have a landline is because it's cheaper to have the "triple play" from FIOS than the "double play" (yes I'm old and still have cable).

Maybe, the issue could be this. You call 911 from your home in NoVA and it routes your call to state police, a neighboring county or city.

VSP doesn't get 911.

That's not true in all areas. In some places in the state mobile phone 911 calls are handled by VSP call takers and dispatchers.

Speaking from experience, I can say that they're not. Maybe in extreme circumstances when the system is overloaded or down.

My own experience and their own website says they do.

In areas where the locality is unable or unwilling to do so, the State Police also handles wireless 9-1-1 calls and transfers them to the appropriate agency.

Okay, I'm bailing on this one before I get sucked into another skinny thread tangent discussion here.

HF has pointed out a lot of the challenges with NG9-1-1 (Next Generation 9-1-1). I worked with the DOT about 10 years ago to describe what capabilities the PSAPs (dispatch centers) needed to keep up with cellular/handheld technology and the technology keeps changing faster than the call centers can keep up. If anyone is interested in where we hoped the PSAPs could go check out the NG9-1-1 (https://www.its.dot.gov/research_archives/ng911/index.htm) vision for emergency services.

Run to Win. Pass To Score

That is why I carried the land line as long as I did. But right now, no kids, early 40's and so far no disease or illness.

That being said, when the neighbor put in a fence he cut through the buried phone lines to the pedestal in my backyard, the main trunk line. In his defense, MISS UTILITY miss marked it. In the three years since, Verizon has never shown up to fix it. So as I far as I know nobody in my neighborhood still has a land line.

Aren't the telephone providers required to provide access to 911 calls even after "disconnecting" service?

I think that has more to do with cellphones where if you dial 911, your cell phone will route through the nearest tower no matter who owns it.

Anther reason to have a landline, it doesn't need power to make a call. Your cell phones will run out of power or not have a tower to call, your landline will almost always still work. There are homes on the Florida keys that could be weeks or longer with no power but they have a landline to make calls.

This is not as true anymore, as more and more land lines run through the cable modem. Xfinity is this way these days. Now, the modem does have battery backup, but it only lasts so long.

I'm talking the old school landlines. Not VOIP or other modem based types. A wall mounted old school landline (where an option obviously)

I'm with you. I used to run alot of data/comm cable, and true landlines are incredibly uncommon these days. Mainly because of your lump services offered by Entertainment providers.

Unfortunately not true any longer. As a lot of companies are changing over to fiber optic for more data capabilities they have lost the ability to run the power along the copper phone lines. Now the fiber landlines go down when their batteries go out either at the house or the switching station 8 hrs or so. That has happened to a lot of New England over the last couple of big storms.

I know it's not related directly to the thread, but anyone know when they'll announce the gametime for ODU?

I'm actually expecting that today, unless we get put on a six day hold. I'm hoping for another 3:30 on that one, but we'll probably get ACC Network.

This is the first time I'm ever hoping for a nooner. That evening will be the first race under the permanent lights at Martinsville Speedway and I'd like to catch both...if not, one might see me in the ticket exchange thread. Not sure yet though.

For us here in Leesburg, it's on Xfinity 732 according to the CBS Sports link above.

I have DirecTV but my package doesn't get CBS Sports. How would you all go about watching the game?

Upgrade.

Just bought a new car so that's not within parameters.

You can add that package for one month and then call back after game and cancel. It should be no more than $10.

I'm in the same situation. My first thought would be a bar. If you want to watch at home I'm sure you can find a stream somewhere. I'm also going to consider a YouTube TV trial as others have mentioned.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinsku, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

I tried to borrow a friend's hulu but she doesn't have the level of subscription that lets you watch live TV. So I think I'm going to fire up that YouTube TV trial.

YouTube TV isn't available in my area, so I'll be firing up that Hulu TV trial. It's only a week, but that is long enough for me.

I have CBSSN in my Xfinity cable package, but I'm out of town - so I will just check how I can stream it on...

...

Do you have the X1 package? If Xfinity is anthing like FiOS (as there X1 adds suggest), you should be able to watch it on the Xfinity app. Or you can DVR it and watch you DVR through the app.

Then, if you have a Chromecast, you could then cast it to the TV in your hotel room or friend's house, where ever you will be, through their wi-fi.

You have to be connected to your home wifi to watch (certain) live TV on the app.

Right now, I've narrowed it down to doing a free trial of Hulu/Youtube TV or finding where the local Hokie alums are going to watch it.

Can you access the recorded shows on your DVR outside of your home wifi?

I ask because I have Fios, not Xfinity and live TV is restricted like Xfinity, but the DVR contents are viewable anywhere that you can get internet access through the FiOS app. If you DVR the game, you should be able to watch it as it records (just remember to extend the recording an hour).

-Ron Swanson

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

Ah, that was a good suggestion, but it won't let me watch while it's recording.

The current plan is just go to a local sports bar to watch.

FuboTV offers a one week trial too. That's how people have been accessing various soccer games that are difficult to find on cable.

Just log in to your Xfinity account and watch it through your browser if you have a laptop. If not, there is the Xfinity App. I've used both successfully in the past.

ESPN, FS1, SEC Network, even B1G Network is available via TV Go, but not CBSSN

Damn. I was going to use my parents Xfinity login for this game. Guess I need make sure I have something worked out between now and Saturday

Do they have any app where you can stream it? I will be out of town but I could plug my cable info into an app if they have one.

Spectrum/TWC channel 315 in North Carolina.

Very new to TKP, Wife and I planned on being in Nags Head this weekend and I just checked the Charter Spectrum channels. CBSSN Is on Channels 303 and 818. 818 is HD. Saw a recent post showing 315.

Question, will the Hulu picture quality be better on my tv connected via HDMI from laptop or Xbox1? Or does it even matter? We live at SML and have Shentel, so I signed up for Hulu free trial. Internet explorer doesn't work well with Hulu so I tried Firefox.....much better. Haven't connected with Xbox1 yet, just wondering if I should bother.

HokieObsession

I don't watch Hulu, but I have noticed with WatchESPN that performance can vary between devices or browsers, and on different days different devices work better. There have been times when my Xbone streams flawlessly while Chrome on the desktop stutters, but this past Saturday the Xbone stream was literally unwatchable while Chrome worked OK. And sometimes my phone works well and other times not.

I would imagine it works the same with Hulu, so I would recommend testing your available options before the game.

Game day bump.

I think I'm leaning toward cfbstreams on reddit - does anyone have a better plan for today?

My parents also have Xfinity, will not work.

Tried to sign up for the free 2 week youtube tv trial, go figure getting an error page after signing up. Anyone else have success signing up?

I signed up last night and it has worked fine for me

I signed up for PS Vue free trial today to watch the game and give the service a try. The picture is great, no buffering, much better quality than what I've seen on my friend's Sling. But, wow, the menus are slow. I mean like push the button wait 10 seconds for something to happen. Is this typical? My internet connection? I like it otherwise but it's almost unusable.

Which device are you using it on?

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

PS3

I tried it with my Android phone and Chromecast after the game. It was a much better experience.

It's a little hard for me to believe that a one generation old gaming system can't handle the menus and guide for a TV app...

So I signed up for the free CBS All Access 1 week trial... I can't find a listing for the game anywhere. Any suggestions?

Is it football season yet?

Is CBS Sports Network part of all access? I looked at all access but couldn't find anything that said it was included. Got the free trail to Fubo instead. It's fast and loaded quickly.

Worked real well enjoyed using it on the computer.

Wasn't able to watch the game live, would anyone happen to have suggestions on how I could catch a replay of the game? I'd be willing to sign up for a so-called free trial if CBS SN has got an on-demand option.

I would just wait and see if Hokie Tapes on YouTube uploads the game. I would say he will soon.

Wow, had no idea those uploads were so prompt. Will be checking his page regularly. Much thanks.
