How is the Junior Day going?? Any good news?

Also, as a note of interest Sheridan Jones is now class of 2019, does that help us? Tank Land kinda implied they would be a package deal on Twitter not sure if TIC

Main event starts tomorrow. Easily the best group we've ever had.

I don't like our chances with Sheridan. Some people, including the 247 guys, are starting to get optimistic about Tank again, but I've talked to a few friends in the 757 recently and they just don't think we can overcome the capehart situation.

Regardless, we're going to start hot with the '19 guys. Whether or not that means it's a good class remains to be seen, but it should be a fun spring/summmer. I think Simonds and Jones are close, and we'll hit on a couple wr's this summer as well.

How many years will the Capehart situation continue to haunt us?

Don't think much longer. BSHS is starting to fall apart and then the program won't be around much longer. Tank isn't even enrolled the anymore. Obviously it wasn't a huge deal for guys like Armani and Adarjois Jones, but unfortunately tank and Tahj were very close.

What do you mean by falling apart? Are they getting rid of their football team or just losing talent?

Schools in their league are refusing to play them because the talent differential is so great. Tons of kids have been transferring out.

How can schools in their conference refuse to play them?

Edit: Found this.
Conference schools aren't refusing to play them, the conference suspended them.

The Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools suspended Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School's membership in the league for three years, effective this fall, saying it has questions about the athletic philosophy of the Virginia Beach school.

BSHS left TCIS in football to pursue their own scheduling. Now football players can't compete on other team sports in the TCIS conference and TCIS teams can't compete for conference championship. BSHS needs to fix this fast or they are going to be hurt in the long run.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

They were suspended because of backlash from all of the other scholls in the conference. TCIS is a pretty respected academic conference and the other members weren't happy with BSHS's extreme emphasis on football and recruiting athletes that may not have received admittance to their school based purely on their academic standing.

So they applied a lesson learned from UNC....

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

I know plenty of kids who went to some of the schools in TICS in the 90's and Early 00's. While yes they have some great academic schools not every kid going to those schools is a Rhodes scholar. I think TICS got mad that BSHS might let it's better football players also play other sports and maybe upset Norfolk Academy who has dominated the league for years. Also they didn't like the new coach they hired and the negative publicity he had when he was suspended from the public conference for recruiting.

So they got so good that their players now have to leave so they will become bad?

Recruit Prosim

Think VT joining the MEAC......It really isn't fair, especially with the physicality of football. With the other sports the teams would just get embarrassed but with football it could become dangerous.....

Is it though? Because Norfolk Academy was the dominate football and overall sports program in TCIS.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

A lot more going on than just a talent differential including some pettiness from both sides. I would guess after next year they will be playing pretty much all the TCIS again

If I was Fuente and Co. I would point to the fact Capehart played one game this season and had 6 yards and one catch. Maryland waited till the last game of the regular season against PSU to burn his redshirt and he had one touch all season.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

If there's still bitterness over the Cape situation, that's just incredibly petty, and sounds more like an excuse not to come here. I think both sides made some errors, but don't tell your future coach to his face you won't do something and then try to do it behind his back. I don't see how the way that panned our affects Tank at all. Sounds like more 757 drama.

You have to think of it from the perspective of a 16 year old kid. If you were a sophomore in high school and your best friend was essentially denied enrollment from his dream school because he appeased his family friend, you would be upset as well.

The keywords I question there are "dream school" and "family friend." Would a true "family friend" cost you your "dream school?" No. I call bullshit. Sorry Cape.

What? How in the world would that be relevant? Ok it's not a family friend, it's a loose connection. Who cares?

We fucked up because we made too much of a big deal about him taking that visitation and it poisoned the well. If you're a recruit and something negative, perceived correctly or not, impacts your teammate/close friend it's going to impact your decision. This is not rocket science.

When that family friend is Chris Beatty and is on the UMD staff, then yes, he would. Can't blame Beatty for doing his job and earning his salary.

What exactly happened with Tahj? I don't remember hearing a lot of details about that.

Also, are we looking at Jamious Griffin? Maybe I am just looking at him because of our history with brothers but the kid looks like an absolute athlete. His ranking is high enough to where he should be fairly sought after but when I watch his film his explosiveness and size seems so far above most kids at his age (I watched freshman and sophomore film).

Long story short, and the best I can gather from numerous accounts - Cape is 100 solid to VT and our staff has a great in home visit with him. Fuente asks that Cape shut down his recruitment and not take any more officials, to which he agrees.

Then, a "close family friend" (aka Chris Beatty at Maryland) begs Cape to take a last minute official to UMD. Cape and co. agree and view it as a favor to a family friend. Fuente finds out and gets upset that he was lied to and yanks his offer. Cape is upset and apologizes, Zohn talks to Fuente and he reluctantly agrees to give the offer back. By that point the anti-VT train is in full force and Cape's inner circle feel betrayed and he ends up at UMD.

757 recruiting in a nutshell. So much drama.

Ok yes I remember that now. I know that commitment and loyalty is important, but I will always side with the 18 year old trying to make the best decision for himself. I agree that any serious grudge still remaining towards our staff may be petty, but I can see how a kid would be hesitant to deal with a staff that did that.

I understand it was stressful for Fuente in his first year and really wanted to get these guys but unless a recruit is way out of line with how they treat coaches, I will always side with them to do what they feel they need to do to make the best choice for them. Although he should've told our staff that he was going on that visit and not tried to hide it (from what I know it sounds like he tried to hide it).

I agree mistakes were made on both sides. But the "favor to a friend" argument is laughable. Beatty has a certain reputation, and no school is going to waste resources on an official unless they think they can get you. I think the whole situation was a setup, and Beatty knew how our staff would react and all parties played right into it. I think Fuente understands how much drama is involved in recruiting the big fish, but the 757 in particular. I think there is a conscious "anywhere but VT" contingent there. I think Fuente may be a little green yet as a big time recruiter to pull the big time shut your recruitment down moves yet, but if you're going to do that, hold true to your word and don't give the offer back, IMO.

Think anyone is going to join Carter this weekend?

Oh and quick question for anyone in the know. What position does this kid project at? I feel like kids listed as athletes usually end up at WR or DB but this kid's built more like a DE.

VTCC '86 Delta Company, Hokie in Peru, TKPC#490, One of us!

Gotta agree with this. If you have a legit shot at a national title run it's easier to come back for that. If it's more than likely that it's just gonna be a bowl game then why risk it.

Although if you are projected first three rounds hard to stay imo regardless of national championships or not. No one in the NFL gives a damn if you won a national championship in college or not. Most players haven't.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

So they all got 2nd round draft grades (Ferrell, Bryant, and Wilkins) from the draft advisory board and a host of around ~25 GM's Dabo has connections with, but I think Ferrell and Wilkins (who hasn't decided yet) would/will go first round anyway. It is a little odd that they were able to keep them. I'm not sure what Wilkins will do, he has his degree and has proven he can excel as both a 5t and 3t, so I think his draft position isn't going to be helped by another year in school but we will see.

It should also be noted that it would be pretty messed up if any coaches were encouraging Wilkins to stay. If they want to stay, that's fine. For as much as people hate on Saban, he consistently tells his guys to go pro (this is common amongst many coaches) if they are projected 1-2nd round. The ones who come back do it of their own volition.

It's a lot easier to stay when you already have a salary

I wouldn't stress that right now. OL talent is definitely better in VA for the 2019 cycle than it was in the 2018 cycle. And while it pains me to say it, the guys are in that mid-high 3* range so we might be able to land them instead of losing them to programs like Clemson and Ohio State... just being real ya know.

I do like how we're looking for the lines this cycle. Too early to tell their caliber though, rankings fluctuate so much before senior year, especially on the lines. Smiley picked up Mich St and USCe offers this week. Was hoping he'd get the train going this weekend.

Hands down the most loaded junior day we've ever had

Keep calm, Gobble on

Alabama just lost their OC, who do they go after? And does it help us recruiting?

No. Saban reloads in coaching just as well as they reload at every other position on the field. Top coaches will go there to be under Saban so they can get a National championship with 4/5* players and get a head coaching job going forward.

Players go there to play for Saban not for their coordinators. The coordinators change more frequently than the players at Alabama.

Recruiting for them won't change until Saban retires or the devil comes to call his contract due.

Tayvion Robinson (WR, Frank Cox HS, Class of '19),
Tony Grimes (DB, Princess Anne HS, Class of '21),
Myles Alston (DB/WR, Ocean Lakes, Class of '21?),
Jayden Truesdale (DL, Bishop Sullivan, Class of ???),
Elijah Alston (DE, Oscar Smith, Class of '19?) and they are missing
Sheridan Jones (DB, Bishop Sullivan, Class of '19).

Simonds has Bama, Florida and LSU too. Tayvion has OSU. We'll see what happens if the pressure gets ramped up by those guys. Very impressive early

Yeah no offense but isn't that how it always works?

Wait till the kids go to their next visit to another school and then wait for the CBs to then flip for them.

It's like how we all used to play soccer in elementary school; this large amoebic mass of kids that just follows the ball around? Well those are the CBs that flip and change based on where the ball (recruit) is visiting next.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Of course. We all know that. I never made any implications that they were in the bag or anything like that. However if we're receiving crystal balls for a kid now it at least means that they had a good visit and we are firmly on their radar.

Using /s is for cowards.

This appears to be the year of the "vion"s. Two Tayvion and one Savion.

JJB now has 73% of CBs for The Ohio State and he's visiting this weekend. It was fun while it lasted but at least we still have an awesome class for '18 and a '19 class that is starting out strong!

Yeah, once he decided not to sign early, that one just felt like it was going to go South by February.

Condoleezza Rice ever being on the selection committee is a great example of why the playoff should be expanded. That's not necessarily anything against her but there's no way she doesn't have too much other stuff going on.

I get what your getting at Fireman. I feel like you're being lured into the race card argument, but I totally get what you're getting at. I don't think a young black role model is as big of a deal for a player like Dax (although it could be). But I think for a lot of the young black men/women who are visiting campuses it can be a big deal to see where a Stanford education can get them. Regardless of whether they are from the inner city/low income, or from a well-off middle to upper class black family. Seeing a successful black icon, is motivation. Even for me in my mid-30s.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

your big pitch is to introduce me to Condoleezza Rice?

No. This is where your already wrong. The big pitch is that you will play at one of the most prestigious colleges in the world, in a community laden with self made millionaires/billionaires, in an area that is quite beautiful that also has a damn good football program. Meeting a former political figure alumnus is just icing on that cake.

Agreed, Stanford has everything in the world to offer academically and athletically. But I was referring to the fact that if a recruit cited meeting Condoleezza Rice as the deciding factor for choosing Stanford over another program, that would be pretty strange. You would think if it was a football recruiting trip they could have John Elway/Andrew Luck or somebody affiliated with the football program on hand hanging around.

You can't use non affiliated people like that for regular meetings. NCAA violation. Rice is an employee of Stanford.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

So how do we arrange to have Mike Vick/Tyrod/Kam etc. back on campus for big recruiting visits so prospects can meet them? Granted these typically occur for big games/spring games, but they are still unofficial or official visits for every recruit on hand.

Their "purpose" is to be there at the game and they just happen to "meet" recruits.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

That seems like a gray enough area where they could get someone affiliated with the football program to just so happen to be there to meet recruits. But I guess Condaleezza is more practical.

Or they could always take the UNC approach and claim even regular students were allowed to say hi to Andrew Luck, then lawyer up. Proven strategy with dealing with the NCAA.

Interesting I've learned so much about the color spectrum of recruiting in the past two days, black, white and now gray.

I always heard that UNC had Michael Jordan pick up Harrison Barnes from the airport at his OV...maybe that's urban legend, but I remember that happening vividly.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I was referring to the fact that if a recruit cited meeting Condoleezza Rice as the deciding factor for choosing Stanford over another program, that would be pretty strange.

I look at it differently. For one, these kids are smarter than you're average bear if they can get into Stanford, so meeting someone like Rice would be more significant than a former player. Because Rice, no matter your political leanings, is EXTREMELY well connected AND a heavy college football fan. So whether you make it to the NFL or perhaps don't and apply your Stanford education into tech, entrepreneurship or whatever she's an very valuable asset. If she's made available to players as a mentor slash advocate that could be a huge factor in the decision making process.

They don't go through the same admissions process as your average student applying to Stanford

Recruit Prosim

First, for the typical student athlete it is rare to choose a school that is across the country over similarly good programs locally unless it is for something specific, in this case academics.

secondly, so what? ok, they got in with lower standards. They still need to maintain a minimum level standard year to year at a challenging academic university. I maintain that student athletes that go to Stanford are smarter than your average student athletes and so it makes sense that different things, outside of just football, will be appeal to them. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be appealing to guys at VT but discounting the impact of someone like Rice is shortsighted.

I hope that this means the staff have drawn in better talent and are jostling for position rather than some players who might not see a better offer and commit on the spot. I know Fuente has some OKG style in his recruiting, but landing the guys in the top tier that happen to be OKGs would be much appreciated.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Some would argue that this year's Junior Day was more successful than last year's

WAY MORE SUCCESSFULL. Start power everywhere and everyone left impressed!!

I was gonna say this felt like it was the first crack in the BS notion that we aren't "big enough" for the studs.

I'm noticing more top players leave with the message "I feel I can help win a national championship"

Keep calm, Gobble on

2018 was the first step towards the next level recruits. I still believe this class will have more contibuting players then we have had in years past. Less waste.

2019 has more talent instate and the Tech players are bring back a swagger we haven't had for a while. We wont be talking about a gap of talent in a few years.

Plus the 10th coach should help out a lot as well.

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

Any word on candidates for the 10th coach?

It's been weirdly quiet.

Nope, he isn't an on the field coach. Still waiting on that. Honestly I thought we would have an answer by now. But some beat writers and website guys are saying not till after NSD.

Did we make any progress on kelly? Seems like we've had no shot so far

Oh we have made some huge gains.... I would dare to say we are on the short list after this week.

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

Can you provide any insight as to why it was so much more successful? I know there were guys who came out and said we lead for them, but what, if anything was handled differently this go around?

edit: I read down into some of your additional replies, which make sense. Not sure if you have anything additionally to add.

What's OKG?

Evan Watkins still hasn't flipped his CB, so there's a glimmer of hope.

Hanging tough there.

Man it's really weird to be talking more about the upcoming year's class than the current class in mid January.

That is really buying into the This is Home mentality. The appeal of playing in front of family and friends might mean more to him that the the glitz of a powerhouse.

I mean it literally is home for him. His high school is 500 feet from Purdues stadium. Still impressive holding off power houses nonetheless.

wow TWO offers from SMU

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Nope, he only has one offer from the two SMUs.

So just a heads up for anybody who hasn't seen but it looks like 247 is starting to make many/most of their new CB's for VIP members only. It's looking like using CB's as any sort of info may not be viable here for much longer.

Using /s is for cowards.

It's a good thing there are some very important people who frequent TKP.

With how unreliable CBs have been in the past, I can't imagine making them VIP only will cause people to join 247.

Jamarcus Chatman visiting this weekend.

I got some beers. Let's drink 'em!

Yea you better believe this kid's going to get the hard sell on some early PT.

Using /s is for cowards.

Big time DL weekend. Jamarcus Chatman, Jaevon Becton, Cam Goode.

I got some beers. Let's drink 'em!

My god that offer list. Also went to the same school as Jaylen Griffin, as well as where his younger brother are currently enrolled. Would not mind creating a pipeline down to GA talent. I've asked a few times but never gotten responses. Where do we stand with Jamious Griffin? The youngest of the three brothers and looks like a freak athlete with great size already for his age. I know Devyn Ford is our #1 priority but Jamious looks like an absolute stud.

The middle brother, Jaquon, has had an interesting path. A 6'0" 250 DE/DT, he committed to LSU in April because his other offers were Hampton, E. Mich and Ga State. In June, Tennessee got involved. In October, he visited Ga State while still committed to LSU. On December 4, LSU officially walked him and he decommitted. Now, he's visiting Colo St, Tulane and Appy St.

I guess a kid who took the best offer on the table. LSU offered on projection then he didn't project. When numbers got tight in December, they showed him his future and he went in another direction. It's not always a direct line for these kids. Can certainly be humbling.

Yea Jaquon definitely had a weird recruitment. I can definitely see how he was a risk though given his measurables. But I think Jamious could easily be the best of the brothers. I haven't heard anything about him and he wasn't at our Junior Day. Just seems like a kid we have a relationship to and should be going after. Maybe LA or BAG can help clear this up?

No, LSU offered as a package deal with the other kids from Rome. Anderson, who's the real stud of the group, decomitted from LSU and the package deal fell apart

I don't know who you're asking but per Rivals and 247 it doesn't look like we've offered Jamious Griffin. He camped at VT last summer, so if we didn't offer we're probably not that interested and aren't really recruiting him.

He was quoted by Rivals in September saying USCe and Cincinnati were his favorites, and the 247 crystal ball currently has him 100% to USCe.

I'm no master at film review but he looks strong and balanced in his film but not particularly fast or quick for a college RB. Highlights are a lot of overpowering weaker defenders or simply out running slow ones. A few instances of nimble footwork. He's obviously got the talent to draw a few P5 offers (USCe, Miss, WVU, NCSU) but I don't think he's an absolute stud based on his film / my limited film review skills.

If you want a GA RB to watch, we're recruiting Derrian Brown and he's visited VT twice in the past 6mo. He was at the Junior Day this past weekend so hopefully we're getting some traction.

Ford and Brown would be an awesome 1-2 punch at RB.

I've seen Derrian Brown and he is obviously someone I would love to have too. But I have to disagree saying he isn't that quick he makes some impressive cuts in his film and always seems ready to make an explosive move. At the end of the day I trust the coaching staff but he just seems like such an athlete with a connection to the school I was kind of surprised. Didn't know he camped out last year but that makes more sense now. He just looks a lot more athletic in his film than other recruits do and they're all going against sub par comp.

This would be a huge deal for our DT depth. I am ecstatic that we are still going after him. He might need some time in the weight room to bulk up but he's a twitchy DT that can get into the backfield. Would love to swoop in and steal this kid.

Edit: Wanted to add, he reminds me a lot of Alim McNeill, who I also loved as a DT.

247 says he has a visit to FSU on 1/19... Do you have updated info?

Side note - I don't have twitter so I can't check his tweets if that is where date visit info is coming from.

Edit: meant for this to be in reply to this Jamarcus Chatman post... Sorry

He was planning a visit to FSU but for whatever reason he is no longer going there but coming to the Burg instead then heading up to MSU. 247 just posted an article about it. Would be huge though if we could have a lasting impression on him this close to signing day.

So is JBB OSU bound?

Semper Fi

Yes. All CBs are going for him and this late in the game they do mean something. Also he is visiting this weekend. I highly doubt that trip will fail to wow a kid without many big time offers until recently. It was fun while it lasted.

Always a bridesmaid blah blah blah

Semper Fi

Believe I read something with JBB stating that anOSU and Nebraska were his top two as of now.

I mean BC is the one that really got robbed. We got in late in the game ourselves

Yeah more robbed than us because of proximity and they offered 6 months earlier than us. But we also got robbed considering we offered at beginning of Sept. and the big dawgs come knocking over 3-4 months later and snatches him up. Like many have mentioned, with new early signing period its mostly good for us to lock our guys up, especially the under the radar ones. Drawback is that December 21st-Feb. 7, teams can give major attention to the 5-10 guys left on their board as well as time to look at kids with awesome senior film.

Has anyone not a VIP 247 member seen that some Crystal Balls you have to pay to see now?
Is this new?, because I haven't seen it before

Yeah it's new, but you can still see the percentages and the graph with the trends on the player's profile so it's basically still free just takes a little more effort. 247 just trying to trick more people into paying for info that isn't truly hidden

Using /s is for cowards.

so they want me to pay for their useless speculation?

According to hometown #sauces, Dax is coming to VT. I hate to be blunt, but that's what I heard (from a good source, too).

I like you and I don't even know you.

You just made my day!

But if you're trolling...

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

Lol. I'm waiting for him to commit to Stanford and y'all come back to this comment and rip me a new one.

But in all seriousness, the person that told me would know. I've heard all along that he's a lock for VT, AGAIN, from very reliable sources.

Nah, you told us what you know. We are all cool with that, no matter how it shakes out. Thx.

Actually, he told us what he heard, but I'm still cool with that, too. I appreciate any ray of sunlight we can get and hope like hell it turns out that way.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Based on the location suggesred by your user name, I choose to believe you and your reliable source

Haha I'm actually from Shelby, NC (Dax's hometown), which is about 40 mins west of CLT. I like to think that I'm in "the know".

Ayyy I'm from the 704 area too

Keep calm, Gobble on

My family is from Lawndale, NC..........nobody that isn't within 15 miles has heard of the place..........lol

LolololLawndalololole. That's out in the sticks of Cleveland County. When you ride out there you hear the banjos playing and can smell the moonshine being brewed.

I've never heard anyone referred moonshine as being brewed

Recruit Prosim

The fermentation of the corn mash prior to distilling, which is when the alcohol is formed, can be considered brewing, it think. It is also the stage that that emits the fermenting gases, and thus the stage you smell. Most distilleries I have been to just refer to it as fermenting, but I have heard that step referred to as brewing before.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Did you hear any relative time frame on when he's going to announce?

In Sam Rogers we trust.

No clue. I have to imagine that if he's waited this long then he's waiting until the February signing day.

People were saying to expect a mid-January announcement not very long ago, so if this info is accurate it jives with that timeline. Makes me think it could be true.

I was honestly preparing myself for Stanford commitment so that I wouldn't be disappointed, but the fact that Evan Watkins never flipped his CB from VT after his OV there is also a good sign. Hopefully we don't have to wait until NSD but either way it's worth it. I have to think Tremaine may have helped us more than we realize also if the decision is close (not PT as much as proving ability to be a 1st round prospect from VT).

Michael Clark on 247's front page posted a "SCOOP" on Dax. A quick look at his CB shows it remains with the good guys. just fwiw

Possibly sharing Fuente's and VT's in-home visit plans with Dax? Wouldn't be surprised to see Fuente making his visit on the heels of the Stanford visit.

Would be important to get in there quickly to get back in his mind. All accounts are that he's a fan of whatever recent school he went to was. Don't let him sit on Stanford for long.

I got some beers. Let's drink 'em!

IIRC, Fuente only gets 1 in-home. If it were me, I'd at least send Bud and Shibest down following Stanford visit and then have Fuente use his as a final pitch to close the deal.

I believe I read they were trying to get Dax back to Blacksburg on an unofficial visit, maybe this weekend?

I'd be all for it. I've seen some scuttlebutt that Clemson told Dax that he is no longer a take now that their entire d-line decided to stay instead of leaving for the draft, but I've also read that Dax may take a visit to Clemson this weekend.

Bud was in Shelby in Oct. the weekend before Dax's official to VT. FYI

Told ya so....

24/7 just released their final rankings and oh boy was it sad scrolling through trying to find our players. Tre was the only on the featured list of the top 250 recruits. Would be really awesome to close with Rasheed or Dax

Recruit Prosim

The tape don't lie these dudes are amazing.

Per example, QP is rated 11th DTQB in the country after going to the elite 11 finals and being top 5-7 of those guys

Keep calm, Gobble on

Pretty much every fanbase thinks that about their players. They can't all be correct.

Not everyone's players ball out at the UA All American game or the Elite11

Keep calm, Gobble on

Um, yeah, pretty much they all do. You just don't pay attention to every schools recruits, which is understandable obviously.

You spelled Coastal wrong.

Huh, weird, I thought I spelled Cings wrong.

So Jamarcus Chatman is visiting this weekend, but he visits Miami Feb 2nd and has some recent CBs for Miami including Wiltfong it looks like. His CB is behind the paywall but it says Miami is 33% and there are 24 predictions which mean there should be 8 for Miami. There are only 5 that are shown for Miami and 2 behind the paywall so I can only assume.

I don't know much about our history, if we have any, with him. Is he a near Miami lock that we're just hoping will work out or does somebody know if we actually have a shot at him?

I don't have any inside information, but the two main things I think we have going for us are that we can offer early playing time with our limited DT depth and we have Griffin who was his HS teammate on the team to talk us up. With that being said, he strikes me as a kid who is interested in going to a bigger name flashy school so I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I wouldn't count out our coaches ability to sell this kid on coming here.

In summary, I think we have a shot, but I'm trying to not get my hopes up.

Miami is actually really light on DTs too.

Jaylen Griffin, one of our linebackers and recent commit, was his teammate in high school. Not sure how close they were, but it can't hurt. So we've got that goin' for us. Which is nice.
EDIT: woops. I was late to the game with a less informative comment.

"That move was slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl of snot." -Mike Burnop

How often does this ever amount to anything?

I've seen it written more times than I can count, but I can think of very few that actually played out.

Tim Settle was pretty good.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

That's one. Sort of. Out of about 15 or so every class.

Does anyone have any insight on what position we are recruiting Tank Land for? I ask because I recently watched his tape, and though he is listed as a CB on 247 about half the tape was him as a slot receiver and kick returner. The majority of snaps he showed as a CB were him jumping slants or blowing up screen plays. There weren't many plays of him as a CB defending passes down the field, which is my worry with having a 5' 8" CB. He's obviously an elite athlete, I just wasn't sure if he would strictly be a CB for us.

He mentioned in the interview that they primarily are looking at him as a slot corner.

Slot corner. Some of the more elite DBs in the past few years have been < 5'10". Lamarcus Joyner, Alterraun Verner, Tyrann Mathieu, etc have been excellent slot cornerbacks.

Does our Slot Corner replace the WHIP?

Slot corner is basically the nickel position, i.e. Mook Reynolds.

Depends on how kinky we're talking about

Depends on the package. If it is an obvious passing situation and we had a really good slot corner than we would play 3 corners. Most of the time we play the whip because we like to stack the box and stop the run. You'll notice that even Mook would come out and Shegog would play instead at the whip when it was a heavy goal line package because he was another big body to stop the run. If Tank becomes solid against the run he could play whip but more on the pass coverage side.

For the past two seasons Mook has played a hybrid role, sometimes called Nickelwhip for lack of a better term. It combines the coverage skills and responsibilities of a nickel back with the run responsibilities of a WHIP linebacker. This is possible because of Mook's unique skill set and aggressive mentality, and allows Foster to keep the same personnel on the field for most situations. Foster has no need to switch out WHIP linbackers for "slot corners" right now.

There is no guarantee that once Mook moves on that Foster will continue with the Nickelwhip concept. For example, in the bowl game he asked Deon Newsome to do much less man coverage than he normally asks of Mook.

Has the Anthony Grant train passed? He's on an official at UT this weekend and just got offered today by FSU. Doubt FSU has any chance considering their current RB room and being so late but I feel like Pruitt could impress and from what I've seen Grants lead recruiter and position coach is still on staff.

Well add another name to the will be here next year list.
