Virginia Tech hooked a big fish Thursday afternoon when quarterback Hendon Hooker verbally committed to the Hokies. Tech recruited Hooker throughout the Frank Beamer era, but Justin Fuente and his staff extended a scholarship offer on February 29. The 6-4, 200 pound Dudley HS (Greensboro, NC) product picked Tech over scholarship offers from North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Missouri and North Carolina A&T.

The 247Sports composite rates Hooker as a 3-star prospect, although Scout gives him the nod with a 4-star rank. The dual-threat QB posted efficient numbers during his junior season.
Hooker was an HSXtra All-Area first-team selection in 2015. He completed 127 of 198 passes for 2,234 yards with 17 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Panthers. He also rushed 122 times for 1,217 yards and 15 TDs.
Hooker helped lead Dudley to the NCHSAA Class 4-A West Regional final.
