This is EXACTLY how I feel and what I was also trying to express in this post. I am just baffled by the lack of direction around this process. It's great that we're getting the funding we should be getting, don't get me wrong. But without competent operators at the wheel, all that money is beginning to feel like shit being thrown at the wall. It's such a bad look.
I only think about age when it comes to the political offices. I want someone who has to consider living with the consequences of their actions for more than 5-10 years haha.
Let's have 20 people in a room with 20 different ideas, and then give one person/department the responsibility for making all those ideas come to fruition-usually, the MarComm department.

# | Some say the sun shines brightest the day Pawl Finebaum gets removed from ESPN We need a new AD, right now. In fact its already too late.
Footage from the drum blitz that started on September 9 and ran for almost a week and a half. Still sick to my stomach that I only got to fish one day of it.
I had the exact same thought scrolling through this thread for the first time (right now). So glad it didn't take long for someone to say it

# | Some say the sun shines brightest the day Pawl Finebaum gets removed from ESPN Weird how the audio from the call just cut out... must have been in a cell dead zone.
This. Comparable to Kansas State pre-Snyder, but for much longer.
if you look at heat maps/equivalent of where HS football talent comes from, Iowa is pretty cool. I think winning consistently there is outstanding.
2019 but not that out of date

# | Some say the sun shines brightest the day Pawl Finebaum gets removed from ESPN While I'm not sure what he did there was wrong, I'm sure the Mouse wasn't pleased with ANYTHING political coming up in ANY of the Disney/ESPN/ABC programs. That said, I'm not going to miss him for whatever length of time he's off the air. His love affair with the SEC is on Beano Cook/ND levels of obsessive and I can't stand anything he's a part of on the air. He's already a divisive character and if he said what he said he just made things much worse for himself, and the Mouse (who already has enough heat to deal with at the moment) has ratings to worry about.
Yeah, something fishy absolutely went on at ESPN yesterday.
A Paul Finebaum caller brought up today's reports about ESPN allegedly pulling Finebaum off the air during his radio show. He was yanked immediately. pic.twitter.com/B4N037hMxlβ Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) October 6, 2025
That is certainly a hallmark of higher education. At least as far as I have seen it.
I definitely feel your pain. Have had issues before that led to long stints with mechanics. One of the stranger ones was a small 9.9 motor that just wouldn't run. It was all I had at the time, so I was screwed without it. Finally, after 6 weeks with this guy, Shug, who was considered a knowledgeable and capable mechanic, I had had enough. I called Shug and told him I was coming the next day to pick up the motor to take elsewhere. The next morning, he called me back and told me to wait until afternoon to get it. When I arrived, my motor was purring like a kitten in a tub in his shop. He proudly took me in to see it and told me that the solution came to him in a dream the night before and it was fixed and ready to go. Seems that the exhaust port had become clogged, unusual in a small motor that usually ran all out, but he'd never seen it in a small engine before. He cut the bill in half and told me he never wanted to see that motor again. Ran great for me until I sold it.
Fishing here is still pretty poor, but the speckled trout recruitment was very good this year so we expect good trout fishing next season. We got 30 one day last week, with a 19 in the mix. No drum, though. None. It was a good year for me to have a busted trailer, keeping me off the water for more than a month. Thankfully, I do have a neighbor who's kept me out every couple of weeks, but the fishing's so poor, I'm just not feeling much loss.
Curious, at what age do you feel is too old? The blatant agism out there is pretty amazing. Try getting a job if you are laid off and over 50. I'm in good shape, but know some people trying to get another job when they are >50 and the blatant bigotry of people who say things like too experienced or over-qualified (translation: too old) is impressive.
Imagine having a sitting Alabama senator with a sports call in show though.
Speaking from experience in higher education...that committee has too many damn people on it!
I still think folks are missing the bigger deal with this all. Yeah, money for the program is good, but it's the NIL money that is ultimately leading to wins. Look at UVA. They received a 10 mil donation this offseason specifically for it and they were able to bring in OL, a great RB, a great QB, and some WR's. We can have all the good coaches we want, but if we don't have the talent, it doesn't matter.
I've never understood how that guy had a show on cable television.
He's never been at all interesting.
ESPN seems to be denying pulling him from programming.
It's never good to cross the mouse when the mouse is in charge of your cheese.
DUVALLLLL!!
Yes, it would have been better to have hired a new AD a year ago, but they didn't do that.
And we can't let Whit hire a third football coach. Retaining Pry through the rest of the year wasn't at all an option.
So the process is going to look a little messy, and the fans are going to be uncomfortable. Doesn't mean VT can't find a good coach, and it doesn't mean the VT job isn't a good one. On the bright side, it looks like there's going to be more money available.
No surprises here, and while I get that folks wanted to see Whit fired, he's objectively FAR from the worst Athletic Director we've ever had at VT. But, like I said, he doesn't get a third chance at hiring a football coach.
Don't worry. Their plan is to hire another Top 10 all time hall of fame of coach and to let them successfully handle everything in spite of the lack of comprehensive institutional support.
This year is looking better for the Monarchs, but he hasn't exactly been tearing it up since he got to ODU.

Honestly, I'm going to chalk that up with my brain just missing a game. I was googling and looking and I didn't see the UNC game somehow that night. Maybe Google was wrong. I can go with that too.
Thanks. That's way too old.

60. There shouldn't be anyone elected into Congress or a major federal government position over 60.
Point made below by HomeBrew. These assholes are making decisions for which they will not be around to feel the effects of. I too am only referring to politics. My father at 70 is as sharp and in shape as he has ever been and could continue working if he wanted to, but he doesn't need to. I think experience for business acumen is a really great thing and it is dumb if companies won't hire for being too experienced or over qualified.
