It went from being a well reffed game and a back and forth game to SMU taking control when the refs stepped in with about 10 minutes to go. All of a sudden we had a charge, but the exact same thing the other way was a block, etc. They were able to literally start shoving us around for no calls and travel all they want.

Great game by the Hokies, in a game where nobody gave us a chance to win, we had a chance the entire way.

I'm not DC, but he and I seemed to share a similar mindset at the time.

I advocated to cop a page from the Buzz Williams hire and significantly up the budget to bring in someone with a proven track record who had recently failed in the NFL. I don't remember any names at the time, but that's where I would have started. And if that didn't work, the backup plan was to get a first time up and coming head coach and pair him with proven coordinators that, again, we upped the budget to bring in. Ideally those coordinators would have been guys who had recently failed as head coaches in either the P2 or NFL looking to gain stable footing again.

We paired a first time head coach with 2 coordinators who had never had the role before. We set ourselves up for failure from the jump.

Grimes has had some good offenses but quite a few duds over the last half decade.

Brad Glenn was a hot name 3 years ago, but hasn't worked out at Cincy. Unclear if that's a Glenn issue or a Satterfield issue.

I'm sus about Paul Chryst. That would require a complete change of offensive philosophy. He's also never had to deal with an OL this bad at Pitt or Wiscy.

I love Ciarroca's scheme, but it will take time to implement, and we don't have time.

We need a guy who can do more with less, who is creative, and preferably who runs (or can run) a scheme similar to Bowens (don't have time to implement a new scheme). Moorhead 100% fits that bill. Glenn would too I think.

To be fair, for 150 years of college football, losing to Michigan and winning a championship were mutually exclusive things. Fan bases everywhere are still adjusting to the new reality.

Was the play-calling innovative? No

I'd disagree on this. I thought our scheme was pretty creative. Not Chip Kelly/Richrod/Hal Mumme levels of innovation, but I think it was creative.

He was pound for pound (aka adjusting for talent level) the best OC VT has had since bustle (low bar, I know), but he wasn't amazing either.

This is definitely an opportunity to upgrade, even if it comes at a bad time.

No, no, this sounds wack too. I don't wanna play Cam Ward for the rest of the decade, or let Kyle McCord play for half the ACC before he's done. I don't know what about this sounds appealing to people

I spent wayyyy too much time on here every day waiting for a DC to be hired, checking for any news or rumors and was happy to have a break once we made a hire. Welp, here we go again!
