Untalented teams still occasionally find ways to win basketball games. Untalented teams that are badly coached will lose almost every time.

I gotta admit I'm a Wessler fan lol. He might not always make the right play, but he hustles and does a lot of the small things right, like setting screens and boxing out. He has a soft shooting touch too.
I lol'd earlier in the first half when he flattened that dude on a screen and then tripped over him, resulting in the defender getting a foul. Let the man cook 🔥

Can some of the slowness be attributed to head tying up the feet? I just have trouble believing we're that outmatched talent wise. These guys were all mid to high 3 star recruits, most are just young

I have never seen more lazy, predictable, uninspired passes to just gift breakaway layups over and over and over again
If you are pulling for 2 ACC teams, no way they take Clemson with 3 losses, including the last 2 games. If it is a close, tight game and maybe SMU loses in OT or on a bad bounce, or whatnot, maybe SMU can sneak in ahead of Alabama or Indiana. Will be tough to overcome the SEC bias and I just cannot see an 11-1 Big 10 team left out even if - as several have pointed out here - they really did not beat anyone good. If SMU wins, obviously they are in.
I've been watching VT hoops for 20 years and this is the second-most painful team to watch that I can remember after that second James Johnson team. Not sure it gets any better next year either unless we get some big fish in the portal.
Can we afford to? Yes - Go get Bill Brechin from Miami of Ohio or Nick Benedetto from NIU. Both are coaching top 40 defenses that have (at best) top 70 talent, paired with offenses outside the top 100. They also are each making well under $300k/year (at least they were last year).
Are we capable of making a better hire? IDK, I would hope so.
Don't hire a retread who's ceiling is known to be low. I'd rather hire another position coach who's never been a play caller (ie; Marve 2.0) than hire a play caller who I know is bad (Graham).
