I just can't see it being a high scoring game, a la shootout.

Bud will stop their run game (which is not strong) and force them to be 1 dimensional. then the pressure and misdirection will start the INT/passes-defended portion of our broadcasting day.

SYR stays in it if the they can stop the offense.

If our guys stay focused and on THIS game, we win. They will not out-coach us and they do not have enough top athletes to beat us that way. The only way is if we do not focus on this game.

UNC will also have something to prove, though. I think it'll be close throughout, not giving Miami the opportunity to get their backups in. I would like to see Miami win, though. The last top 15 game in Lane Stadium was Clemson 2011 if I remember correctly, and the last win in a top 15 matchup at Lanewas 2009 against Miami.

Whit took that off the table and I think, while disappointed

I feel for Bud on that one a bit, but the last thing VT needed coming off of last season was a defensive-minded coach in the big boss' seat. I don't think anyone could argue that Bud could have assembled the complete staff we have now along with the immediate turnaround Fuente has produced.

I was at that game in 99, and it was an interesting day. Cold as a tiches witty, and we were really worried about how things would go. What a fantastic day it turned out to be, though. As much as I like being confident about a game, it was a hell of a lot of fun to be so apprehensive and then so elated in the space of a few hours. Priceless!

I wonder if Foster's growing confidence in his players in the box along with the very weak Syracuse run game will help to stop Etta-Tawo. He is another type of player we have always had trouble with particularly because he wins jump balls. Will be interesting to see how this secondary fares against ECU, UNC, and Cuses high flying offenses.

I've been thinking about this a lot. I have no idea what goes on in Bud Foster's head, but I have to suspect it's a lot more fun to be the best DC in college football than to spend X hours each week wondering if you are good enough to be HC. Frank Beamer's swan song had to take a toll on Foster.
