# | QB Jerod Evans Sees Situation at Tech That's "Almost Too Good to be True," Picks the Hokies I think you're putting way too much emphasis on our schedule being "TOUGH" next year. Also, we've done just about as well away from Lane as we have done at home recently, if not better.
I do agree that UT, ND and UNC are going to be our toughest match-ups. You might even add Miami to that mix depending on how quickly Richt can get them turned around. With the talent he'll have to work with I expect them to be pretty dangerous by mid season.
Outside of those 4 games, though, our schedule is pretty soft. The best teams we have left to play include Pitt and Duke. It's really likely that we'll be able to manage 8-4 or 9-3 with our current roster and competent coaching. I think it's also fair to assume that Fuente and his staff are competent offensive coaches. Bud is a known commodity. This team really doesn't have that much further to go to achieve a .667 win % or better for 2016.
Now, I'm not saying that my expectations are that high. With the sweeping changes to the offensive staff and huge question mark at QB it's silly to expect that kind of drastic improvement from a 6-6 team. New coaches deserve some time to get the current players on the same page and start bringing in new guys who are starting with a clean slate under the new regime. My expectation for Fuente in his first season is to show steady progress over the course of the season. If we go 6-6 again I'm not going to be dusting off my pitch fork. Building takes time.
That being said, though, I think Fuente has proven his ability to turn an offense around quickly (3 years at Memphis is pretty dang quick IMO) with limited resources. VT has plenty of talent for him to work with and I would not be surprised at all if he manages to squeeze a top 50 offense out of our current roster. Given how weak our schedule is that could result in an 8 or 9 win season.

I think people need to stop pointing out instances when comments get "duplicated" as new threads; some things actually are worth a new thread and discussion. Point out duplicate threads with our usual drinking requirement, because those are usually obvious failures to check the Tracker.
French, you are a true Hokie treasure. Seriously good work on this study. As always, I'm impressed and will have to read it all again later to take it all in.

You don't think there's a few programs - not necessarily Power 5 programs - that could use a Rent-a-QB who has actually started a handful of Power 5 games?
yeah but when UVA is up there is that risk that they'll beat us. At this point, after 12 straight, when we eventually lose to them it's going to REALLY REALLY suck. They're going to be so much happier for breaking the streak than anything...I would much rather continue beating an inept team knowing that we're going to beat them every year than have to go into the game every year nervous about what may transpire after a possible upset.

If we are better next year with a QB upgrade and the returning O players having more experience, no reason we can't compete with UNC again. UT will likely be ranked, but that game is at a neutral site, so I see us being competitive. NOT sure how good ND may be. We may lose them all, but I'm looking for at least one win in those games.
Jaquan Bailey, a DE has decommited from UF and we have picked up a crystal ball on 247 today. We could sure use him.

Ive been surprised there haven't been more articles rating the coaching hires. Ive been looking and this is the first one Ive seen.
Mendenhall recruited some studs to BYU. Now that he can recruit more than Mormons I have a feeling that he is going to do quite well. I'm happy that the ACC Coastal is going to be one of the most competitive division in all of CFB for years to come, but I wish that UVA would have hired more ineptly. Apparently they are tired of all the shellackings. Who knew?
Go watch him play. He was given the ball almost every play of the 3 games I saw him play. He isn't that impressive to me!
I see it as a positive. Its great beating uva when theyre down, but its REALLY great beating them when they and the rest of the world think they are up. As in 38-0 type beating them when they are up.
Good post. I think the whole key is getting a QB that can lead the offense. The offensive machine is in place, we just need a guy to drive it and a guy to tell it how to get there. Fuente seems to have his man ready to get behind the wheel - all the hints are there that we have picked up something special. As for Fuente, I think he has proven he knows what he is doing.
The D? Sure, we lose some guys. But we got used to playing without Kendall, and found out we have a handful of guys that fit the bill in the process. And in the "out of sight, out of mind" guys like Settle, Hill, Lydon, Walker etal (as you said)...AND...send that D out there with an offense that inspires them....brrrrrr....

I agree. Can you imagine the universe where coastal division matchups got the attention of say clemson fsu or ANY sec game? Im hoping we can start seeing some numbers regularly behind the team names in our division so I can hear hype rather than what a train wreck the coastal is.

I'm confused. If the state isn't giving them the money for the football scholarships, how is it they can direct how they spend it?
I completely understand where you're coming from, and respect any effort to avoid homerism. Like yours, my first reaction is to reach for a reasonable rebuilding timeline. My second thought, though, is to look at the roster and see our most productive starting OL lineup returning, a 1,000* yard RB, a 1,000* yard WR, a stud JUCO QB with two years' experience in the spread already, no Scot Leoffler (!!!), a Bud Foster that seems to have a new spark, and a defense the loses a couple stars in Kendall/Luther/Dadi, but also adds a couple in Settle/Hill/Lydon/Beckett. Our depth sucks, but we definitely could compete for the Coastal next year.
Exactly, pointing out a duplicated comment like this doesn't really do anything positive for anyone. Duplicate threads are fair game, unless they are posted within seconds of each other.
