That part of the rule under those conditions means the game is pretty much over with 9 seconds left (if you don't have a TO left). That to me is bogus! I think they need to tweak that part of it. Way to many great game endings hinge on those last 9 seconds...

Everyone has this mentality now that because we lost Grimes that no assistant is safe. Grimes took a huge pay cut when he came to VT and we were allowed such a deep discount because of the dumpster fire that was Auburn's 2012 season. In my mind it makes sense for him to move to LSU where he has a shot at contending for national championships right away, where at VT we are still rebuilding.
On to Moorehead. I love the mentality that Moorehead has brought to the program, and I like many others have been impressed by how quickly he has picked up recruiting. However, just because someone is a good recruiter doesn't mean that he will immediately move on to bigger and better things. For example look at Joker Phillips at Florida, who is widely considered one of the best recruiters in the country. Are his practices unethical, that is up for debate. My point is after Florida went 4-8 you didn't see the rest of the SEC pounding down Florida's door to take him away.
I personally love everything that Coach Moorehead has brought to our program from the recruits that he is landing to the emphasis on WR's running crisper routes and enforcing football fundamentals. I hope that he is as endeared with Hokie Nation as we are with him and that he will be around for a very long time.

# | Proposed NCAA rules changes for targeting and defensive substitutions Reading through this brings up an interesting point I hadn't considered. What happens towards the end of the game when time is running out and you have no time outs? What if a team completes a play that puts them in FG range, but there's 0:09 left? Normally, the team would run up to the line and spike the ball. Since less than 00:10 have elapsed on the play clock once the ball is set, is this now a penalty?

I don't like the new rule for defensive substitutions. I guess I'm okay with giving the defense time to make a substitution. What I don't like is that the offense could be penalized for being good at what they do. It seems silly to have a 40 second play clock if you can't play for the first 10 seconds. At that point we should just leave the responsibility to the refs to start a 30 second play clock 10 seconds after setting the ball and chains.
I would be interested to see how they conducted the study to determine this...
Research indicated that teams with fast-paced, no-huddle offenses rarely snap the ball with 30 seconds or more on the play clock.
This seems like sort of fishy lawyer speak to me...what are they considering rarely? What if a no huddle team is playing with a lead late in a game...they could run 10 or 15 plays on a couple of long methodical drives to try closing out a game....all of those plays may use up the entire play clock..by design. At that point, it doesn't matter if the entire first half they ran 50% of their plays with more than 30 seconds on the clock...because if you averaged it out it wouldn't look like they ran ANY plays with more than 30 seconds still left on the clock...I think this is an easy stat to skew based on how you want to make the argument...I don't trust the research without seeing it
Somehow I get the feeling that some OCs somewhere are really unhappy with the rule. Maybe it's "rare" over the course of a game, or a season, but having the ability to run 2 plays in quick succession factors into the strategy of the game.

This guys seems to have an Adibi skill set and has good hands and great speed. I can only imagine what he will look like with a Gentry 20. He could be a monster and a really good fit for what Bud wants to do on D.

I bought the only non-AWD Subaru. Of course the first winter with it is the worst of my lifetime.

Georgia -at least all around here in the metro-Atlanta area is/was shutdown since Tuesday, they closed early that day before anything hit (afraid of the vitriol from "icemaggedon" a couple week's back). I've enjoyed driving to and from work these past couple days with no one on the street/highway/interstates and blowing past cop cars. I thank "Bleaksburg's" late fall to early spring driving conditions school for a great education.
Weaverville (just outside Asheville) ended up with about 6". I'm at work in Burnsville (about 4"). The storm was definitely a dud here thanks to the dry socket we got. It doesn't appear that anyone had any trouble making it in this morning...as far as I know, there is no Atlanta or Raleigh-like mayhem here.
I'm in Winston Salem, NC. We got 7 inches down here.

15.5 at my house in Pulaski. It's pouring snow right now. According to one of the news channels, we could possibly see 2-4 more inches today.
About 8-9" here in Silver Spring. Looks like we're in for some sleet and snow/rain mix through the afternoon, so that may increase. One dog loves it, one hates it.
