The Ladies play Rice today in Puerto Rico at the Coqui Classic at 1:30. A coqui is a small tree frog native to Puerto Rico. It is also, and probably more relevant, the name of a pharmaceutical radio isotope manufacturing company named for the frog. I can't figure out if the game is on TV anywhere other than the subscription channel, which may be Youtube TV, linked to the tournament web site.
Rice's record is 5-4: One of the losses was a very close game to current No. 11 Texas A&M.
They have enough height to be a problem for the Hokies. 6'9" Junior Nancy Mulkey will be a challenge for Kitley; I don't imagine she has played against too many players taller than she is.
Below are stats for the stats geeks. Note that Rice does not keep up to date stats during the season; so I just took box score data for the last three games. The data was clearly inaccurate because the scoring totals based on the shooting stats did not match the scoring listed as the total for the games. I did not try to figure out why; but I think whoever did the stats got some 3'S and FT confused. I think the stats are still useful to get an idea of who the best players are. Obviously Sr guard Ogwumike is going to be a challenge. 6'9" Jr. Mulkey is their second leading scorer. After those two, the scoring drops off dramatically. Rice does not shoot or make many 3's. So I'm guessing their inside game with Mulkey and Ogwumike complementing each other is the key.
Go Hokies!
