Let's get this out of the way right now.
Vanderbilt sucked. It was just horrible. A lead balloon filled with farts thrown at every Hokie fan out of a Paul Skenes arm cannon aimed directly at your emotional testicles.
After an offseason of freebasing hope, hype and unrealistic expectations, the come down appeared more out of nowhere than that bear RFK Jr hit with his car. But the worst thing about Tech's loss in Nashville is that it's already dampened the mood of what could still be a potentially promising season.
But instead, Hokie fans went into Marshall preparing for a disaster and nearly willed one into existence. Lemon-bootying their way through a tense half of the Lane Stadium season opener, showering the home team with a predictable combination of raucous cheers and unignorable boos. Booing your team in week two...WHILE YOU'RE WINNING...is certainly a choice. If that's not an audition tape for SEC admission, I don't know what is.
But fans can't help it. The vibes are off. And although there are multiple realities where the Hokies overcome a tough start in week one and win a bit of a clunker against the Commodores, a 1-1 record just doesn't hit the same.
