Andy,
as always, I love reading your work. I took particular interest in the last question you answered
How do you compete as a baseball program on a consistent basis having to recruit against schools that essentially have minor league ballparks? How do you get a women's lacrosse program on par with the rest of the extremely competitive ACC? You have to be able to invest significantly in those programs to make them routinely competitive, which is no small task
Reading this paragraph made me wonder: How many of the athletes at VT who play in other sports (besides Football and Basketball) are on scholarship? How many scholarship athletes are there who play for other programs which are routinely competitive in those sports?
Would the inability of VT to offer scholarships to athletes in 'non-revenue' sports hurt recruiting? It would be a much more serious investment than just simply upgrading facilities and hiring a good coach when you factor in the expenses related to putting kids through 4 years of school on scholarships. Is that what VT is up against?
