Hatin' On: BYE
BYE thinks the Hokies not playing this weekend is a good thing.
Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.

Longer read, but it's a good overview of the current discussions pertaining to the future of college football.
UNLV and Syracuse is a better game than I expected. Honestly thought UNLV was going to mop the floor with the Orange.
Every week Parker Fleming of College Football Insiders posts the "How Badly Did We Get Beat" chart on Twitter, a look at net success rate between the winning team over the losing team. On the right hand side are games where the winning teams dominated in victory, while on the right are teams that lucked into a win (looking at you, Rutgers vs. Washington).
VT took a widebody plane to California. It looks like an Boeing 767-300, which is generally reserved for long international flights but also used for New York to LA and other premium cross-country flights. The Captains and OL were in the First Class Delta One pods, which are like little bedrooms with seats that can recline into a bed. I guess the DL probably flew in the business class. I've flown business class (free upgrade once), and those seats are big and comfortable. I have never flown Delta One, but those seats are luxurious. The OL and Captains should be well-rested.
"Troy Taylor" is AI Generated and you cant convince me otherwise
Torn triceps muscle will sideline #Hokies DT Kemari Copeland for the rest of the year. Malachi Madison got in for a few snaps at Miami as the fifth DT. Will be interesting if VT works freshman Emmett Laws into mix. Could play him in four of last seven games and keep redshirt. https://t.co/1aXYjIsj77β Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) October 1, 2024
Wish him a healthy and quick recovery.
ESPN: Big Ten, SEC to talk possible scheduling partnership
Big Ten and SEC athletic directors will discuss a possible partnership in football scheduling, along with their preferences for automatic bids, in the next iteration of the College Football Playoff.
The discussion is to take place at an in-person meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, next week, multiple sources from both conferences told ESPN on Monday.
I don't see this thread so I'll start with why is ole miss wearing THAT color blue? It doesn't match their helmet, and it kind of matches KY's helmet stripe.
Last week was doom and gloom and how much bourbon would it take to survive the Miami game.
We even had a thread for survival tips.
Laments of whether we could even get bowl eligible and possibly losing out.
Our Hokies came within 1 play, refferee call OR a few seconds from beating a legit top 10 on the road. It was a thrilling nail biter of a game
They played the whole game. Dumb penalties were very minimal. Our explosive plays were in abundance just as one of our crew posted an excellent post identifying that exact thing as our strength.
Our team yesterday, on national TV on Friday night showed we are capable of winning out.
Soooo damn close!
Let's Go!
Strange but trueJerry Magallanes was the referee in tonight's Virginia Tech-Miami (FL) thriller AND the 2015 Miami (FL)-Duke lateral ending (h/t @ADavidHaleJoint) pic.twitter.com/8C7peGkT0Pβ Unnecessary Roughness (@UnnecRoughness) September 28, 2024
Look, I'm not saying this is blatantly league office corruption at play, but I'm also definitely saying that it absolutely looks like it is.
In the first four games, this would still be heartbreaking, but we would be 4-1.
I loved the fight in this team, but we saw a complete game tonight. It's on the coaches that we haven't seen that until now.
This game just goes to show that the coaching is still a massive question mark.
With that said, quarterback coaching is not great. Drones consistently throws behind his receivers. Say what you will about Bowen as OC, but we he is not cutting it as QB coach.
Time out on 4th and 10 with 25 seconds left prior to kicking a 58 yard field goal.
Squibbing a kickoff with 20 seconds left.
Absolutely mind numbing clock usage in 2 minute drill.
The fake fg was at least aggressive but id prefer we just ran it twice on 3rd and 4th.
I know we're winning and all, but this is a fireable offense.
Virginia Tech had two No. 17's on the field on its successful 58-yard field goal at the end of the half pic.twitter.com/tNSfJBCXvtβ Unnecessary Roughness (@UnnecRoughness) September 28, 2024
I pulled the numbers for EPA per play on offense and defense, as well as success rate and explosive rate for offense, and defense for Weeks 1-4. Spoiler alert, Virginia Tech is below-average to average at everything. Here's to hoping that those numbers improve after the next third of the season.
Virginia Tech ranks 79th in EPA per play on offense and 66th in EPA per play on defense. Overall, Virginia Tech ranks 69th in Net EPA per play.
Steven Godfrey and Ryan Nanni have started a new podcast called Who Killed College Football - it has a 'true crime' format where each episode is/will be focused on a different 'suspect' (TV networks, Larry Scott, The NCAA, etc). Two Episodes out so far: The Prologue and Suspect #1: Television.
Anyone else listening?
The senior transfer from Holy Cross has quit the team over "representations" that "were not upheld".
Matthew Sluka said he will instead use his redshirt year.
"I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled," he posted on X, formerly Twitter. "Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."
