This is an insider column so if you don't have it, let me fill you in. Kiper's top five are as followed:
1. Teddy Bridgewater
2. Tajh Boyd
3. Johnny Manziel
4. Marcus Mariota
5. AJ McCarron
I know what you're all thinking: what about Logan? Logan comes in at #8 behind San Jose State's David Fales and Ohio State's Braxton Miller. Here's what Kiper has to say about him:

9. The Logan Thomas Project: Heading into last season, Virginia Tech's towering QB Logan Thomas was hyped by some NFL draft analysts as a potential top overall pick but 2012 quickly deteriorated for the agile 6-6, 260-pounder so much so that it seemed every nationally televised game the Hokies had, Thomas would end up trending and it wasn't for anything positive. The Hokies' supporting cast was already suspect, perhaps forcing Thomas to try to do too much. Thomas' accuracy, already a question mark with some folks, looked even shakier in 2012. He went from completing 60 percent of his passes in 2011 to just 51 percent while throwing six more INTs.

Logan Thomas announced today on ESPN College Football Live that he will return for his senior season. Woo! And I need to celebrate for a minute with a GIF.

In October, Thomas had been adamant in his plans to play his senior year in Blacksburg. "I've always told everybody that I'm planning on coming back for my last one," he said.
However, after the Russell Athletic Bowl, he had this to say.
"I can't tell you now," Thomas said when asked whether he would return to Virginia Tech for his senior season. "I have a big decision in front of me either way it goes.

Both Logan Thomas and Marcus Davis are listed under "Sliders".
Logan Thomas, QB, Virginia Tech: Thomas entered the year justifiably ranked as one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation, but his play was woeful at times throughout the season. His poor defensive reads resulted in errant passes and a lot of interceptions (14). Considered a possible top-15 pick in August, Thomas now grades as a third-round choice.

This just came to my mind and I thought I should point it out. We're all on here trying to figure out what the problems with our scheming, coaching, execution, etc. are, but there is one key thing that I don't think anyone has talked about yet and that is leadership. Last year we had David Wilson, two years ago it was Tyrod (he really picked us up after that loss to JMU), but who is it this year? Bruce Taylor said that they don't have a guy that gets them hyped every game on defense, to me that means that our defense doesn't have a true leader and I can't think of a single player on our offense that has shown me any leadership skills. What great team in any sport didn't have a great leader?

Yeah, that about sums it up. He said he now has LT as his #21 overall pick and said he could drop out of his top 25 if he has another "so-so performance". While I agree that Logan has played below expectations that we set after his breakout performances last year, I believe that he's going to get more comfortable as the season progress, just as he did last season (didn't really get the hang of it until about game 5... Hint hint)...
The experts are saying that Logan should return next season at this rate in order to improve his draft status. And I wholeheartedly agree, but not for his draft status. We're going to need him against Alabama beginning next season.

After pushing the pile for a one-yard touchdown run near the end of the second quarter, Logan Thomas went to the sideline favoring his right hand.
(Little bit of, "ewwwwww," after the jump. But there are gifs of Logan hamming too.)

That appears to be Logan's fingernail peeled back off of his thumb. He, we, all got lucky it wasn't anything worse. A lot can go wrong, even for someone 6-6, 260, trying to ram through 2,500-plus pounds of flesh. LT3 plays a physical game, and the offense is infinitely better for it. We saw Saturday how Logan grinding between the tackles (then just the threat of it) softened the outside. It's just risky business having the quarterback do the dirty work, but at this point it is necessary because it's outside the skill sets of the tailbacks.
Forgetting what I just wrote, and for good measure, here are gifs of LT3 punishing defenders.
Boom!
Trucked.
