Jayron gets Sport Science'd

Both Appalachian State and the Hokies will rely on contributions from freshman during Saturday's game. Caleb Farris (center), Mark Leal (quarterback), Zack McCray (defensive end), Duan Perez-Means (defensive end), Luther Maddy (defensive tackle), Corey Marshall (defensive tackle), Boye Aromire (rover), Detrick Bonner (corner) are all listed as backups on Tech's two-deep. Appalachian state is starting freshman at left tackle, left guard, receiver and right defensive end. There are 290 starts among the 57 players listed on their roster, an average of 5 each. Their backup left tackle is also a freshman, his name is Shaq Counts. Finally, excerpts from the pronunciation guide, my favorite section of the game notes. Say 'em slow now: DRAY-gurr, Daddy, JARE-in Goo-VAY-uh.

David Teel chronicles the decision that led to Frank Beamer being our coach these last 25 years and not Bobby Ross.

Furrer4Heisman's Appalachian State game guide has been posted, just another soft nudge that the season is really only four days away.

All options are not equal. This is not James Madison's read option ran out of a then foreign Pistol formation, nor is it Georgia Tech's flex spread. With that said, Appalachian State executes their scheme with flawless precision. And it's tough offense to defend because little mistakes result in big plays.

"If you have pitch, you've got to play pitch no matter what," linebacker Bruce Taylor said. "If they don't pitch it all game, you've still got to play that because you never know when they're going to. It's not a hard offense to defend, but a team like Appalachian States, that's their offense. They run it so good, they're gonna break a few plays here and there. But the thing is to keep it to a minimum."

Will Appalachian State get their's? Yes. Will we adjust? I believe so.

According to Hokies 'N' Hoos Daily all-everything athlete Joel Caleb (Clover Hill - Richmond, VA) has narrowed his college choices to two.

The word out of UGA's camp is that Joel Caleb's visit to Athens was a success. However, according to sources close to Virginia Tech, Caleb actually came away from the visit not that impressed. Additionally, and more significantly, Caleb has narrowed down his two school choices to Florida and Virginia Tech.

Oh say, you don't feel like nursing a hangover during Saturday's game, you'd like to do something different downtown Friday night, or you don't do TOTS until midnight... Then check out The Alumni Comedy Show at the Lyric Friday night at 9:30 for only $12.

All six comedians are Hokies, and I wouldn't be advertising it I didn't think you'd enjoy it.
