Randon $&#@# thoughts after the fact

- I was extremely disappointed with both Coach Foster and Coach Beamer to bring up Jayron's dropped interception in post-game interviews. We went out there and got out-coached on both sides of the ball, and you want to say things would have been exponentially different with a pick, maybe pick-six? I think that is immature of the coaches. Hell, even Coach Stinespring stepped up and took responsibility for the offensive woes.

- I'm not sure how coaches factor in whether or not a true freshmen can contribute to the team, but did Ryan Williams really need a red-shirt year? I know that this is hindsight, and that he was no good at blocking, but our rush game in 2009 was Kenny Lewis and an unknown Darren Evans. You can't tell me that Ryan couldn't have contributed in some capacity that year. And we still won the ACC and actually won the Orange Bowl. Which leads me to my next point:

- It is stupid of me to dwell on this more than I already have, but this was THE year. All of the pieces were in place, and we couldn't get to where we wanted to be. I appreciate the ACC championship and Orange Bowl berth, especially after how the season started, but frankly I would have been upset back in August if you had told me that's what we were setting for. We had the talent to (theoretically) compete for a MNC, and I don't think we will now for a while. The pieces won't come together again like they did this year. Just look at how things set up:

- (2011) 80% of your offensive line and all receivers back...you lose your two star running backs and program QB

- (2012) a dominate defense with tons of seniors...you're starting a brand new offensive line and inexperienced receivers

It's like the program doesn't have the foresight to set this up - a la the VT receiving corps in 2009. Seeing both Darren and Ryan leave for the NFL just rubs in what could have been this season. I know I'll change my tune in August, when I am starved for football, but I am bracing for mediocrity next year. A woeful offense, struggles at the QB position...yet we will still win 10 games. Maybe even play for the ACC, maybe even show up at a BCS bowl. If that's the case, then I feel the comparison to what could have been this season will be even worse.

I apologize for the negative, complaint-driven post. Still trying to shake off the damn Orange Bowl.
