Good read on Parker Osterloh

This is from John Harvey of the Virginia Gazette.

"Virginia Tech was really one of the first schools that recruited me early and hard and that played a role in my decision to go there," said Osterloh in an interview Monday night. "It feels great to be going to a place where the coaches want me to be there and I want to go."

...

"I have a lot of respect for UVA and JMU," Osterloh admitted. "Their coaches and programs are outstanding and I gave them serious consideration during the recruiting process."

...

Another is a chance to play in front of a packed house every Saturday at Lane Stadium. "I wanted to make an early decision so that I can focus myself on conditioning and getting ready for football this fall," he said. "I had an idea in my head that I wanted to play at Tech, but I didn't know."

The answer came to him Saturday as he returned to campus to watch the spring game from the sidelines. "My dad, Coach Newsome and I were all with Coach Beamer in his office when I committed," he said. "The time was right and I was certain that Virginia Tech was where I wanted to continue my education."

Osterloh's college career could begin as early as next spring. He hopes to graduate early and enroll at Virginia Tech next January in preparation to take part in spring football. He knows that a strong showing there could mean early playing time.

"Coach Newsome told that if I'm ready at the beginning of the season, I wouldn't redshirt," Osterloh said. "There is no pressure on me to play as a true freshman though. If I need to redshirt, I will. I want to make an impact and play as early as possible."

If Parker enrolls early, then his Gentrification starts sooner, and he has the benefit of coaching in the spring. The 2013 o-line will be without its top 3 tackles from 2012: Michael Via, Vinston Painter, and Nick Becton are all seniors. Curt Newsome has said many times it takes a special player (don't read that as an athletic one) to see the field before his third season. Parker not redshirting would certainly go against the grain, but I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility. Either way, I like that this kid is willing to do whatever the coaches believe is best for him.
