The sun kisses Lane goodnight.

By uniform number, it's Demitri Knowles. Last season Knowles dressed for a couple of games because of injuries, but didn't play a snap his freshman year. However, there's an opportunity for playing time in 2012 at both kick returner and receiver. Finding a reliable 4th, OK and 5th and 6th, receiver in August will be a top priority. If you know one factoid about Knowles, likely it's that he's fast. He ran the fastest 40 in March, a 4.28. He was a raw talent out of high school, but is working on polishing his game. He's another diamond in the rough prospect that has the potential to thrive at Tech. If he can run solid routes, and read coverage better, he'll be counted on to stretch the field. If he takes another year develop, he'll likely have more of an impact shagging balls on special teams.

Tech's never scored 80 points in a game (77 against Akron in '95 is the most). The Hokies are .800 (8-2) in games played on the 20th of September. In 1980 Tech rode career rushing leader Cyrus Lawrence (1,221 yards / 8 TDs in '80, 3,767 yards over his career), a defense that's tops all-time in fewest yards allowed per game (218.3) and tied for fewest touchdowns allowed in a season (11) to an 8-4 record and Peach Bowl appearance. That season Tech also blanked Virginia (30-0).

I was there

in 1980....Cyrus was a beast! You have to wonder what he could have done if he hadn't blown out his knee. We actually had some pretty good teams that were overlooked near the end of the Dooley (three yards and a cloud of dust) days.

The VA win was ultra sweet, even in the rain! I think I still have the front page of the Roanoke Times filed away somewhere from the day after. They had a picture taken from a plane of a (still-unfinished) packed Lane Stadium. It was a great day to be a Hokie!

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Excellent! I can take that trip around the world now!

GO HOKIES! I think this team will be something real special. The defense will terrorize opposing offenses. Thomas the Tank Engine will build on last year, and I think the o-line will exceed expectations. The specialists will do their job.
