Whit Babcock and Virginia Tech agree in principle to contract extension

Hokies are poised to secure AD Babcock through June 2024.

[Virginia Tech Athletics \ Dave Knachel]

Virginia Tech announced director of athletics Whit Babcock has agreed in principle to a contract extension for Babcock to serve as athletic director through June 30, 2024.

"I am very thankful to Dr. Sands and the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors for this contract extension," said Babcock in a release. "My family and I love it in Blacksburg, this is home, and it is a blessing and honor to be here during such a dynamic time at Virginia Tech, both academically and athletically. I am also grateful to our staff and coaches in the athletic department who are doing an amazing job and creating such a special culture here.

"Athletic directors often get too much credit and this is certainly one of those instances. I am honored and humbled by the extension and the faith placed in us to keep the positive momentum going and we will do that," added Babcock. "We will continue to work hard to create a first-class 'student-athlete experience' and strive to make the entire Hokie Nation proud of our competitive success, now and for years to come."

Whit. Stop it, you humble so-an-so

That team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I mean I've seen teams suck before, but that was the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

Seriously, the dude is immeasurable classy.

Awesome news!

He's great for VT athletics.

To all other schools expressing interest:

This is a well deserved extension. Whit has brought new life into our athletic programs and I am thrilled that he's our AD. Congratulations, sir, and here's to many more years of VT success.

In the immortal words of Vance Vice....

BAM MOTHERFUCKER

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.
Don't let the Belk Bowl take away from the fact that Matt Ryan blew a 25 point 2nd half lead in the Super Bowl.

HELL YEAH!

Best November 1st ever. Got to eat my son's candy and now this!!!!!

Hopefully this leads to more people joining the Hokie Club also.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

This....this...this.

We have to get those numbers up. Even if you can just do $100/yr at first. It all adds up

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

KCCO

Run to Win. Pass To Score

Dude has earned it and then some. Congrats Whit!

Ummm HELL YEAH!

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

GIF hard or go home

What was his contract before?
What does "in principle" mean in this context?

Regardless:

I think it was in the low $400ks. With a nice signing bonus.

In principle means they agree on the terms but the BOV has to vote it (which they expect to do)

S--C--O--R--E !!!

Congrat, Whit, we are thankful for what you have already accomplished.. just keep the ship moving in theis direction.

Fantastic news!
