The Key Podcast: S17E05, Buzzketball in the ACC Tournament

Buzzketball drops their regular season finale against Wake Forest, but may have the chance to avenge their loss in the ACC Tournament.

The Virginia Tech men's basketball team heads to Brooklyn for the ACC Tournament following an 84-89 loss to Wake Forest. Pierson, Joey, and I dive into the final regular season game, and much more.

Wake 89, Tech 84 (1:38) Tech loses their last one at home. Are the Demon Deacons as bad a matchup for the Hokies as it seems? How much did starting Zach LeDay and Seth Allen throw off the rest of the team? And assuming Wake beats Boston College in the first round of the ACC Tournament, what will Tech have to do to come away with a better result?

Ty Outlaw shines, but Ahmed Hill does not. (12:20) Ty Outlaw shot the lights out over his last three games. But an over-reliance on the sharpshooter caused the offense to stagnate down the stretch against Wake. Also, can someone put an APB out for Ahmed Hill?

Did Buzz Williams make a huge mistake against Wake? (25:05) Did messing with the rotations against Wake cost Tech a chance at the 6th seed in the ACC? And heading into the tournament, does having a short bench hurt or help?

How much could the ACC Tournament impact the Hokies' seed in the NCAA Tournament next week? (30:15) Would two losses to Wake Forest drop them down to a double digit seed? And would that be the worst thing in the world?

One correction - we beat Wake Forest and we end up at the 5 seed against Louisville in the 2nd round, and then a potential semifinal match against UNC. I'm not heartbroken that we avoided that side of the bracket haha

The funny thing about Hill is that I watched him warming up at halftime and he hit something like 9 of those corner 3's in a row. I guess he just couldn't get into a rhythm at game speed.

yep, I'm sure all of our practices have been this:

But only Ty has been able to replicate in game (and Bibbs to some extent).

I'd much prefer losing to WF last Sat. and beating them Wed night than winning Saturday and having to play either Clemson or NCST again. Plus we avoid the UNC/Louisville side of the bracket for now.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I've always preferred having a 7 or 10 seed in the NCAAs than a 8 or 9. 2 seed upsets are ripe.
