Well that didn't take long.

Continually wishing Tech had a law school

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

If Tech had a law school, I think I might have to get that JD, the only thing I said I would go back to school for.

We've had this conversation around here before.

My position is 'dear god please don't ever let Tech open a law school.'

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

Agreed it would be nearly impossible to start one now. Would be nice if they already had a well established top 20 program though.

I would agree with that.

I wouldn't have gotten in.

Replying to an old post, but, University of California, Irvine school of law was established in 2008, had an inaugural class in 2009, became accredited in 2015 and received it's first US News and World Report Ranking of 30 in 2015. It's now ranked #21.

The law schools endowment is over 500 million. The entire Virginia Tech university's endowment just hit a billion. UC Irvine sits in a major population center with major donors willing to give major money.

Ok. My point was more about starting from nothing and in 10 years being near top 20. The UCI law school had an endowment of $0 just 10 years ago, and started with a $20M donation.

Interested in where that 500 million endowment number came from. That seems high, but Idk.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Saying they started at nothing is like saying a millionaires son started at nothing. They gave full rides to their first class, half rides to the second and so forth. The scores of the students they take in rival any law school. Tech couldn't do any of those things. And most lawyers have said very emphatically DONT START ONE.

Sometimes, people are just providing information without any more. That's all I did. I never said VT should start one. I never said it was easy. I never said anything more than providing an anecdote to show that the possibility exists.

As an aside, I don't know how much you truly know about UCI, but calling it a "millionaire's son" is innacurate. It's a public university, and like 5th best in the UC system. It's only been around 50 years, similar class size to VT, with no real sports teams, and a small alumni network. I don't have numbers, I would guess it's fund raising and endowment as a whole is pretty small (why I doubt the $500M you give, but I digress). This is why what they did with the law school is impressive, especially considering all the other great law schools in California.

Also, why do you feel a need to shut down VT's potential to get a hypothetical law school, especially when responding to a post that never said to start one? What the hell is your point? It's like you came out the weeds to make the point that VT is some poor old school with little to no opportunities to rise in ranks in anything.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Sorry if it came across harsh but we have had this debate a lot, I went from get one to don't because of the Input of the lawyers on here. Then talking to some I know in the real world it became even clearer. Tech doesn't have the position in the country nor the financial backing to start a law school much less make one successful.

It's really all about them dollar bills. With Blacksburg a few hours from large cities where law students could intern, clerk, and open their own practice ... it would take even more money. And with Blacksburg a few hours from large cities with large businesses who could be plied for donations and naming rights that job is tougher. Maybe located at the Northern VA Campus it would be more feasible? There's Mason out in Fairfax, and several law schools in DC, but no law school in Arlington/Alexandria. Now we just need a solid $75 million cash donation to get things rolling.

GMU's law school is in Arlington.

DC is arguably the most "law-centered" city in the country, but it may already be inundated with law schools (considering, UVA, UMD, Georgetown, GMU, GWU, Howard, American). Despite these facts, if VT were to start one, hypothetically, NoVA would be the place to do it.

πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ πŸ¦ƒ

Got the endowment numbers from an article about UCI fundraising, the article mostly was about the 200 million donation they got for their medical school. 200 MILLION. Tech's largest donation 15.2 million.

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

My only question:

Will I have this in time to wear while skipping work to watch the ACC Tourney, or will I have it in time to wear while skipping work to watch the NCAA Tourney?

Honestly, I like it, but with all the "Bullsh#t"s on it, I wouldn't be able to wear it when the kids are around (i.e. 7pm games).

That said, are you planning to offer kids sizes some time soon? ;^)

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Whats wrong with the kids learning about Bullshot? πŸ™ƒ

What about shirts for dogs? I could get a matching one for Rimshot.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Agreed. I would have bought one for my middle-schooler but I can't with the BullSh!$@t on it. He can't wear that to school, but he loved the "quit yer cussin" line.

You reminded me of something sort of, kind of, not really related: When I was in high school, I used to wear my "STICK IT IN, STICK IT IN, STICK IT IN" shirt all the time. It was the maroon one with white letters and to this day was still my favorite Virginia Tech shirt (okay maybe tied with my HOAT shirt). I wore it regularly during football season and none of the teachers or administration seemed to mind. However, my senior year of high school, on November 30th, 2009 to be exact, I show up to school proudly wearing my shirt after we dismantled UVA 42-13 in Charlottesville. Mr. Smith, my computer programming teacher who also just so happened to be a UVA alum and mega-fan told me I needed to go home and change. I asked him why he didn't say something a long time ago and his response was, "Well, I just noticed it and it's offensive." I asked him if it had anything to do with being salty after getting derailed 2 days prior at home. "Of course not, I just think that it's poor taste." Okay dude, whatever.

Yeah, but it's an RL Burnside album, so we'll allow it.

I'll be damned (sorry, Buzz). I honestly did not know. Love my handle even more now.

Hey, while you're at it (if not too much trouble), how's about bringing back a few of the Buzzket Ball shirts??

I don't think that's just Quit Cussin shirts, is it?

It's definitely not. I ship all these shirts myself, and at 3,000 I'd have to find a new solution. That'd be a good problem to have though.

I'm actually curious, though. How many were ordered?
