2016 wide receiver Phillip Patterson announced Saturday evening he re-opened his recruitment.

"First I would like to thank the entire Virginia Tech coaching staff for extending their offer," Patterson tweeted. "Also, I would like to especially thank coach Burden for always being there for me throughout this whole process. With that being said I would Like to announce that I have decided to reopen my recruiting process to all schools interested in me."

Patterson verbally committed to Virginia Tech on August 1. The Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) product committed to the Hokies over offers from Duke, PSU, ODU, UNC and Wake Forest. The 6-2, 180 pound prospect is rated as a 3-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite.

"Coach White told me about the offer, and I was just so excited, I didn't expect it at all," Patterson told The Key Play after he received his Tech offer in February. "It's a blessing. I definitely like the Hokies."

The versatile Patterson was originally offered as a defensive back, but was ultimately slotted as a wideout. Tech wide receivers coach Zohn Burden spearheaded Patterson's recruitment. Burden recruited Patterson when he was an assistant at ODU.

"It's been amazing," Patterson told The Key Play during his first unofficial visit in July. "It's been everything I expected and even a little bit more."
