Virginia Tech Football Recruiting: Joe Kane Commits to the Hokies

Tech adds a Carolina defensive lineman to its 2018 recruiting class.

The Hokies' North Carolina to Virginia Tech movement gained momentum Thursday evening with the commitment of Joe Kane to Tech's 2018 recruiting class.

The Heritage HS (Wake Forest, NC) defensive lineman product opted for Tech over ACC offers from Wake Forest and Syracuse. 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong provided a bit of insight into the 3-star recruit's junior season production.

Out of Wake Forest (NC) Heritage, Kane put on 30 pounds from his sophomore to junior year and had a huge season, racking up 85 tackles, 18 stops for loss and 19.5 sacks, blossoming as a player and obviously as a prospect.

"He has that natural body lean you're looking for in a d-lineman," Heritage coach DeWayne Washington said. "His hands are getting better and better every day.

"I think the thing that impressed me was towards the end of the year he broke his thumb. He just said let's wrap this up and he was able to play through it and still play effective. Right then I knew I had something special in an athlete."

He don't lie, he don't lie, he don't lie...

I came here with the intent of posting this. Have your leg.

$10 says he gets moved to offense. Any takers?

Sometimes I like to leave off the /s just to mess with people.

I remember reading when he got his offer that he was offered as a DT, but obviously you can take that with a grain of salt.

I would take that. He's a playmaker on D, has a nose for the ball, and great timing to get his hands up to knock down passes. Defensive Tackle all the way.

With our lack of depth maybe. Just to be clear I didn't mean that as an insult either. Just reading about a real hard nosed, tough kid with "natural body lean" (ie. bend) reminded me of guys like Wyatt and Yosh.

He gets after it, but that is some of the worst blocking I have ever seen.

Isn't a ranked recruit but his film is fun to watch, I'm excited about this pick-up! Hadn't considered him moving to offense, it's possible, I'm guessing it depends on which OL recruits we land. Go Hokies!!

and when he lines up against UVA...

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

The thing that stood out to me is how fast he gets off the ball. I have visions of him splitting the gap and blowing up play after play in the backfield against GT.

Solid pickup and only helps with the other NC recruits VT is working with. He will get a shot a two Defense and has a lot of qualitys and raw potential the coaches like. Think a Hewitt style of player

Apparently his mom was an extra in "The Program".

Thinking syracuse or wake had a chance? Why you must be joe-kane!

But seriously welcome home Mr. Kane!

Well he is no Tim Wayman.

Let's put the women and children to bed and go looking for dinner!!!

I loved him in the Program, hopefully in two years or so we can fire up the "Kane is able" campaign.
