The Hokies' North Carolina to Virginia Tech movement gained momentum Thursday evening with the commitment of Joe Kane to Tech's 2018 recruiting class.
The Heritage HS (Wake Forest, NC) defensive lineman product opted for Tech over ACC offers from Wake Forest and Syracuse. 247Sports' Steve Wiltfong provided a bit of insight into the 3-star recruit's junior season production.
Out of Wake Forest (NC) Heritage, Kane put on 30 pounds from his sophomore to junior year and had a huge season, racking up 85 tackles, 18 stops for loss and 19.5 sacks, blossoming as a player and obviously as a prospect.
"He has that natural body lean you're looking for in a d-lineman," Heritage coach DeWayne Washington said. "His hands are getting better and better every day.
"I think the thing that impressed me was towards the end of the year he broke his thumb. He just said let's wrap this up and he was able to play through it and still play effective. Right then I knew I had something special in an athlete."
