Virginia Tech added some much needed beef to its 2018 recruiting class on Saturday when offensive lineman John Harris verbally committed to the Hokies. He is the first OL to commit to Tech this cycle.
"I want to first start out by saying thank you to all the programs that have offered me a chance to play," Harris shared on Twitter. "At this time I would like to announce that I have committed to play at Virginia Tech! None of this would be possible without My family, Coaches and Friends."
The Hokies offered the 6-5, 275 pound Mill Creek HS (Hoschton, GA) product last July — an indication he was a priority for Justin Fuente and Vance Vice. Tech evaluated him in person at a satellite camp in Atlanta last June.
"It gave me a good chance to work with Coach (Vance) Vice and see how he coaches," Harris told The Key Play in December of the camp experience. "They just think I have really good feet and good footwork. I just fit well with their idea of what they want to build."
Harris opted for Tech over reported offers from Pittsburgh, Duke, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, and Virginia among other Power Five programs. The 247Sports Composite rates Harris as a 3-star prospect.
