Virginia Tech Football Recruiting: John Harris Commits to the Hokies

Virginia Tech added some much needed beef to its 2018 recruiting class on Saturday when offensive lineman John Harris verbally committed to the Hokies. He is the first OL to commit to Tech this cycle.

"I want to first start out by saying thank you to all the programs that have offered me a chance to play," Harris shared on Twitter. "At this time I would like to announce that I have committed to play at Virginia Tech! None of this would be possible without My family, Coaches and Friends."

The Hokies offered the 6-5, 275 pound Mill Creek HS (Hoschton, GA) product last July — an indication he was a priority for Justin Fuente and Vance Vice. Tech evaluated him in person at a satellite camp in Atlanta last June.

"It gave me a good chance to work with Coach (Vance) Vice and see how he coaches," Harris told The Key Play in December of the camp experience. "They just think I have really good feet and good footwork. I just fit well with their idea of what they want to build."

Harris opted for Tech over reported offers from Pittsburgh, Duke, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, and Virginia among other Power Five programs. The 247Sports Composite rates Harris as a 3-star prospect.

YES!

We need some more linemen, please.

Good get. Staff loves this kid. I would expect one, maybe two more today Hokies.

Today is a day where many prospects are in campus that are high priority. There will also be a camp tomorrow. Apparently today is with fewer targets to try to get more 1 on 1 time

You were right about this one, I can't wait to see who else we get today.

"Hey Bud, you wont have to hold the opponent to 17 points anymore."

Nice pickup. Class is rounding out well.

A realization I just had... I can't remember another recruiting cycle during which, of our chronologically first 10 or so recruits, not one was from the state of Virginia.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Bitter in his mailbag this week talked about this.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Now we're talking. Build an awesome o-line and watch the points role in. This is great news.

yes....Viva Hokies

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

All of those highlights are against "big boy" teams in Georgia, too...Div-1 prospects. Reminds me of the way Mitch Hyatt (Clemson's All-ACC OT) used to roll through the exact same level of competition a few years ago.

That comparison makes me excited. I will take a look at his tape tonight.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

As with most recruits, but especially OLmen, I need to see what French think of this guy before I get too excited that we finally got an OLmen.

Old school player. Has tremendous pad level and a really good first step. Really solid technique. His aiming points are sound. He gets his head on the correct side to scoop defenders on the back side or turn them play side.

I don't think he is a tackle (wingspan and extension is an issue in pass blocking on DEs) but really good footwork. Needs to work on his upper body strength and explosiveness.

He is a guy that a redshirt year will be critical for, but he can contribute very soon after that redshirt year. Especially at guard where depth is a little thin.

Now that's a scouting report. All the facts, no hype.

Waiting for all these "commitments" has me like

Now THIS is what I like to see!! Finally some o line recruits!!!!

I like this kids run blocking. He gets his guy on skates and doesn't stop until the whistle... and even then not really until his guy is flat on the ground.

#thingsiblamethemvsfor

Along with Eli Adams, this gives us the 18th ranked class on 247 (4th in ACC). Love this momentum.

Another commit from south, south, south Virginia.

We put the K in Kwality

Now I know why we don't get too many from Kentucky or Ohio. Who wants West West Virginia?

Historically, this comment is accurate.

Ben Taylor says hello. Don't bring that WV shit to my state sir.

From your article:

"Their fan base is just crazy, which is awesome because everyone likes playing in front of a full stadium," he said. "That was kind of a big thing as well, the fan support and then just the relationships and also playing in the ACC."

Thats awesome.
