Another look at Trey Edmunds' Touchdown Run Against Furman

Edmundi stick it in for six.

[Mark Umansky]

If you didn't catch it on Saturday, Hokies' backer Tremaine Edmunds played a little tight end in Virginia Tech's romp of Furman. In the interest of transparency, I didn't catch it at first. All the credit goes to French. He dropped me a message at 2:29 AM Sunday morning, "Are my eyes playing tricks on me—was that Tremaine Edmunds in as a blocking TE on the Trey Edmunds TD?". Yes, while you were tucked in snug underneath a bourbon blanket, French was re-watching the Furman game.

The play in question is somewhat interesting too.

Tech lines up unbalanced, which in the past is something Loeffler has done on the goal line. To the right of center Eric Gallo (No. 64) is Augie Conte and then Ryan Malleck. To Gallo's left are Wyatt Teller, Jonathan McLaughlin, Yosuah Nijman and Kalvin Cline. Tremaine motions from left to right across the formation.

Tech is actually outflanked at the point of attack, but it doesn't matter. The Hokies run a basic power play. The front side blocks down, the back side guard (Teller) pulls front side and blocks the first man in an opposite colored jersey, the back side linemen cut off back side pursuit, fullback Sam Rogers kicks out the end man and Trey Edmunds runs virtually untouched for an easy six.

And because I am obligated to highlight such things, Teller pancakes a dude.
